Book excerpt: This is a story of a family that had a vision and saw it through to the end. The Hankammer Family had no other choice but to give up their homeland and move to another country with only the possessions they could put into a travel trunk, in order to start a new life. Upon arrival in America, they took what little they had and traveled half-way across this continent by flatboat and wagon train to settle on the western frontier with little or no understanding of the turmoil and strife around them between a government wanting to push west and a native resident not willing to give up their land. Wilhelm and Anna Sibilla's son, Adolph, left home to be a soldier in the U.S. Army, joining company K of the 11th Kansas volunteers, a German Regiment, and fought in the war between the North and South. His letters home to his brother-in-law John Schwanke and his sister Wilhelmina Schwanke, expresses his feelings, misunderstandings, the environment he lived in, and desires to move forward once the war is over. His letters are featured in Appendix I of this book These letters have been translated from the original German text to English. The story doesn't end here. A restless Adolph mustered back into the Army and ended up at the Platte River Bridge in Wyoming only to fight one last battle to secure safe passage for the settlers moving west, which was propagated by the Sand Creek Massacre in Southeast Colorado. Book A Trail of Feathers

Download or read book A Trail of Feathers written by Tracey Damron and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2013-07-24 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A true story about one woman's journey of love, death, murder, political power, deception, the supernatural, and consciousness. Tracey Damron was born into a life of privilege, a life that seemed destined to continue on its path when she married Steve Nunn, the son of a former governor of Kentucky. What follows, however is something quite a bit different than what she expected. Thrust into a world of love, death, murder, political power, and deception, she watches as five men she loves die. In the end, the only way to survive- and thrive- is to turn inward and gather strength from within. A mesmerizing tale that is as uplifting as it is unsettling, this autobiographical journey from shell- shocked socialite to spiritually enlightened shaman is almost too incredible to believe- yet it is entirely true. Guided by the recurring appearance of real- life feathers, she is able to see a different path for herself-and is strong enough to follow it. Damron's fearlessness in opening up the details of her past and the contents of the diary she kept is an extraordinary look behind the scenes of a very public family. Exposing the core of the American Dream gone septic as it demonstrates how to transcend circumstances to attain a greater, more loving spiritual abundance, her profoundly moving story will open your heart to the orders of your life's possibilities. Tracey L. Damron was married to Kentucky politians Supreme Court Justice Will T. Scott and convicted murder ex-state representative Steve Nunn, the son of Kentucky legend and former governor Louie B. Nunn. Through these experiences of death, Tracey has come to realize that it doesn't take a near-death experience to see the Light. Death has served her as a teacher, opening Tracey to the Light during her life journey.

Book excerpt: A car crash takes one life and changes the destiny of four others in this “deftly written, moving novel about picking up the pieces after great loss” (Jenny Offill, author of Dept. of Speculation). Winner of the 2017 STAR AWARD from the Women’s Fiction Writers Association The Stone Necklace braids together the stories of a grieving widow, a struggling nurse, a young mother, and a troubled homeless man, reminding us of the empowering and surprising ways our lives touch one another. Lena Hastings survived breast cancer and marital infidelity but now faces an uncertain future without the support of the one person she has always counted on. Intensive care nurse Sandy Albright, newly released from drug rehab, confronts temptations from her past and false accusations that threaten her career. Tonya Ladson, a mother whose child is injured in a car wreck, must decide if a lawsuit will solve her problems. Joe Booker, a homeless man, loses his gentle benefactor and must either succumb to the evils of his world or find the courage to care for himself. Weighted down by their respective pasts, the characters must make life-altering choices that reverberate into the fates of the others, ultimately bringing them together in unexpected but healing acts of compassion, forgiveness, and redemption. Foreword by New York Times bestselling novelist Patti Callahan Henry.

Her poems form a lyrical conversation with an ominous and omnipotent deity, one who controls all matters of the living earth, including death and destruction. Her acknowledgement of the breadth of this power under divine jurisdiction moves her by turns to anger, grief, celebration, and even joy. From personal to collective to imagined histories, these poems explore essential, perennial questions emblemized by natural disasters, family struggles, racism, and the experiences of travel abroad.

Book The Life and Times of Tell and Minnie Maynard and the Fifteen Children

Download or read book The Life and Times of Tell and Minnie Maynard and the Fifteen Children written by Billy Randall Maynard and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2022-05-19 with total page 367 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The title of the book sums it up fairly well with a couple of exceptions. “The Life and Times of Tell and Minnie Maynard and “the Fifteen Children” is several stories , using testimonials, written letters, and history to weave a wonderful narrative about some of the “last pioneers” on Brushy Creek of Pike Conty, Ky. See how they spent their days amidst the rolling hills of the countryside. There was a two-story house. There was a farm of 380 acres. A little church stood beside their home. A family cemetery began to grow from family members who left us too soon. This is the true story of a large family. This is my heritage. I felt compelled to tell their stories as they struggled to survive in this rugged territory. Wow - what a story it is! Meet the Maynards!
