Book The Damping Ring of Accelerator Test Facility for Linear Collider

Download or read book The Damping Ring of Accelerator Test Facility for Linear Collider written by and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 3 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ATF (Accelerator Test Facility) is being constructed at KEK. The ATF has been designed to test the experimental feasibility of the accelerator sub-systems and to confirm the specification of the total accelerator system for JLC (Japan Linear Collider). A 1.54 GeV damping ring is the main accelerator sub-system of the ATF. The construction of the damping ring will be started from November 1993. The beam parameters of the damping ring are as follows: (1) 3.0 x 101° particles/bunch, (2) 20 bunches/train with the bunch spacing of 1.4 nsec, (3) normalized emittances are less than horizontally 5.0 x 10−6, vertically 5.0 x 10−8 radm and longitudinally 4.5 x 10−6 m, (4) repetition frequency 25Hz. This paper gives the details of the design and describes the status of the R and D works.

Book Beam Based Alignment at the KEK ATF Damping Ring

Download or read book Beam Based Alignment at the KEK ATF Damping Ring written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The damping rings of a future linear collider will have demanding alignment and stability requirements in order to achieve the low vertical emittance necessary for high luminosity. The Accelerator Test Facility (ATF) at KEK has successfully demonstrated the vertical emittance below 5 pm that is specified for the GLC/NLC Main Damping Rings. One contribution to this accomplishment has been the use of Beam Based Alignment (BBA) techniques. The mode of operation of the ATF presents particular challenges for BBA, and the authors describe here how they have deduced the offsets of the BPMs with respect to the quadrupoles. They also discuss a technique that allows for direct measurements of the beam-to-quad offsets.

Book Physics And Experiments With Linear Colliders Lcws95 Proceedings Of The Workshop In 2 Volumes

Download or read book Physics And Experiments With Linear Colliders Lcws95 Proceedings Of The Workshop In 2 Volumes written by Yoshiaki Fujii and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1996-08-22 with total page 836 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Collider experiments have become essential to studying elementary particles. In particular, lepton collisions such as e⁺e⁻ are ideal from both experimental and theoretical points of view, and are a unique means of probing the new energy region, sub-TeV to TeV. It is a common understanding that a next-generation e⁺e⁻ collider will have to be a linear machine that evades beam-energy losses due to synchrotron radiation. In this book, physics feasibilities at linear colliders are discussed in detail, taking into account the recent progress in high-energy physics.

Book A Damping Ring Design for Future Linear Colliders

Download or read book A Damping Ring Design for Future Linear Colliders written by and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this paper we present a preliminary design of a damping ring for the TeV Linear Collider (TLC), a future linear collider with an energy of 1/2 to 1 TeV in the center of mass. Because of limits on the emittance, repetition rate and longitudinal impedance, we use combined function FODO cells with wigglers in insertion regions; there are approximately 22 meters of wigglers in the 155 meter ring. The ring has a normalized horizontal emittance, including the effect of intrabeam scattering, which is less than 3 /times/ 10/sup -6/ and an emittance ratio of epsilon/sub x/ approx. 100epsilon/sub y/. It is designed to damp bunches for 7 vertical damping times while operating at a repetition rate of 360 Hz. Because of these requirements on the emittance and the damping per bunch, the ring operates at 1.8 GeV and is relatively large, allowing more bunches to be damped at once. 10 refs., 5 figs., 2 tabs.

Book Beam Based Alignment at the KEK Accelerator Test Facility

Download or read book Beam Based Alignment at the KEK Accelerator Test Facility written by and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The KEK Accelerator Test Facility (ATF) damping ring is a prototype low emittance source for the NLC/JLC linear collider. To achieve the goal normalized vertical emittance[gamma][var-epsilon][sub y]= 20 nm-rad, magnet placement accuracy better than 30 mm must be achieved. Accurate beam-based alignment (BBA) is required. The ATF arc optics uses a FOBO cell with two horizontally focusing quadrupoles, two sextupoles and a horizontally defocusing gradient dipole, all of which must be aligned with BBA. BBA at ATF uses the quadrupole and sextupole trim windings to find the trajectory through the center of each magnet. The results can be interpreted to assess the accuracy of the mechanical alignment and the beam position monitor offsets.

Book The Electron Damping Ring for the SLAC Linear Collider

Download or read book The Electron Damping Ring for the SLAC Linear Collider written by and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A second damping ring to store and damp two electron bunches for the SLC project was constructed in 1985 and brought into operation early in 1986. Although generally similar to the damping ring (now used for positrons) constructed earlier, there are a number of design improvements and changes. The dipole magnetic field was raised to 2.1 T to improve damping. Sextupole fields were provided by separate permanent magnets, rather than being incorporated in the dipoles. The vacuum chambers, including the beam position monitors, were re-designed for lower longitudinal impedance. A new kicker was developed by Fermilab to handle the two electron bunches. Improvements were made to the dc septum magnet design. Several of the features are described in detail elsewhere. Where possible, the improvements were incorporated in an upgrade of the earlier damping ring.
