Book Cyclotron Resonance Interaction at Millimeter Wavelengths

Download or read book Cyclotron Resonance Interaction at Millimeter Wavelengths written by K. K. Chow and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 65 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cyclotron resonance interaction between a electron beam and a circuit wave to produce backward wave oscillation in an unloaded waveguide in the S-band was investigated, and the development of a prototype oscillator tube to work in the 6-4.5 mm range was also completed. This prototype tube was so constructed that it could be placed in a narrow air gap of an iron-core electr magnet which provided the necessary field for electron cyclotron motion. However, it did not have the desired performance. Modifications made on the prototype tube and tube performance after modification are described. A different design is also reported. The main difficulty encountered in improving tube performance was the inability to control electron injection properly. Even at the conclusion o the experimental work described here, the control was not entirely satisfactory, though net electronic gain from the tube was obtainable. A secondary difficulty was the lack of space in which to place the tube components; however, this was later solved. (Author).

Book Fundamental Cyclotron Frequency Generation from a Cusptron Oscillator

Download or read book Fundamental Cyclotron Frequency Generation from a Cusptron Oscillator written by W. Namkung and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 13 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first experiment is reported for microwave generation of the fundamental electron cyclotron frequency from a cusptron oscillator with a smooth conducting wall. A non relativistic axis-rotating electron beam is used to generate the TE sub 11 circular modes in a cavity by the negative mass instability. The TE sub 111 and TE sub 112 modes are separately excited without any mode competition at an approximately 1.8 kW output power with 7.8 percent efficiency. Keywords: Microwave generation; Fundamental cyclotron frequency; Cusptron oscillation.

Book Design Study of 455 GHz 1 027 KW Second Harmonic Gyrotron Oscillator

Download or read book Design Study of 455 GHz 1 027 KW Second Harmonic Gyrotron Oscillator written by Aras Saeed and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2013 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present work, the electron-cyclotron maser (ECM) oscillators are high power sources of microwave radiation and have applications in fusion plasma heating diagnostics with potential for radar and telecommunications systems are studied. Electron cyclotron masers are based on the cyclotron resonance maser(CRM)instability between a gyrating relativistic electron beam moving in a(usually uniform) guide magnetic field and electromagnetic radiation, are used. So this project deals with the design study of a second harmonic gyrotron operating at the mode with 455 GHz output frequency. To come across with all these requirements, all relevant equations were derived and solved numerically by the finite difference technique. A computer code has been fully constructed and used to study the design requirements and properties of the relativistic electron beam (REB) diode which includes the various beam parameters such as: the electron energy, beam current, beam guiding radius and pitch factor. The expressions for the RF field components were derived and their configurations were followed along with bunching process generation of the electrons along the cavity resonator and presented graphicall

Book The Design of a 100 GHz CARM Cyclotron Auto Resonance Maser Oscillator Experiment

Download or read book The Design of a 100 GHz CARM Cyclotron Auto Resonance Maser Oscillator Experiment written by R. B. McCowan and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 31 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The cyclotron auto-resonance maser (CARM) is a promising source of high-power radiation in the 100 GHz to 500 GHz frequency range that may impact the requirements of advanced systems for applications such as those mentioned above. The requirements for guide magnetic-field strength and electron energy in a CARM may be advantageous when compared with competing devices. Compared with a gyrotron, the required magnetic field strength requirement is substantially reduced. The CARM can provide mm and sub-mm radiation in the first electron-cyclotron harmonic using currently available magnet technology. For example, the experiment at the Naval Research Laboratory is designed to produce powers in excess of 10 MW at 100 GHz with a 600 kV beam and a magnetic field of only 25 kG, while a first-harmonic gyrotron operating at 100 GHz with the same beam voltage requires magnetic field of over 70 kG. Compared with a conventional magnetostatic-wiggler FEL, the CARM can reach sub-mm wavelengths with a lower electron-beam voltage. For example, a 500 kV CARM oscillator has the potential for efficient multi-MW operation at wavelengths down to 0.75 mm with a 100 kG superconducting magnet; a 500 kV FEL oscillator with a 3 cm period magnetic-wiggler will produce radiation at 4.5 mm. The CARM can be either an amplifier or an oscillator. An oscillator design removes the need for an input source and input couplers. In addition, amplifier operation requires suppression of backward-wave instabilities. (RH).
