Book The Cyclic God Hypothesis

Download or read book The Cyclic God Hypothesis written by Michael F. Bohley and published by Balboa Press. This book was released on 2013-03 with total page 117 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For centuries scientists and theologians have argued about the origin, structure, function, and purpose of the universe, with no end in sight. In the meantime, the average human being, when not overwhelmed by activities needed for mere survival, has wondered who we are, where we came from, and why we're here. Dr. Michael Bohley believes that the answers we seek are hiding in plain sight, available to anyone with a healthy brain, regardless of level of education or specialization in certain obscure fields of science, theology, or philosophy. The answers are to be found within the sphere of our beliefs and how they help to shape the world around us.

Book Return of the God Hypothesis

Download or read book Return of the God Hypothesis written by Stephen C. Meyer and published by HarperCollins. This book was released on 2021-03-30 with total page 576 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The New York Times bestselling author of Darwin’s Doubt presents groundbreaking scientific evidence of the existence of God, based on breakthroughs in physics, cosmology, and biology. Beginning in the late 19th century, many intellectuals began to insist that scientific knowledge conflicts with traditional theistic belief—that science and belief in God are “at war.” Philosopher of science Stephen Meyer challenges this view by examining three scientific discoveries with decidedly theistic implications. Building on the case for the intelligent design of life that he developed in Signature in the Cell and Darwin’s Doubt, Meyer demonstrates how discoveries in cosmology and physics coupled with those in biology help to establish the identity of the designing intelligence behind life and the universe. Meyer argues that theism—with its affirmation of a transcendent, intelligent and active creator—best explains the evidence we have concerning biological and cosmological origins. Previously Meyer refrained from attempting to answer questions about “who” might have designed life. Now he provides an evidence-based answer to perhaps the ultimate mystery of the universe. In so doing, he reveals a stunning conclusion: the data support not just the existence of an intelligent designer of some kind—but the existence of a personal God.

Book Cosmology Ecology and the Energy of God

Download or read book Cosmology Ecology and the Energy of God written by Donna Bowman and published by Fordham Univ Press. This book was released on 2012 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book brings together process and postmodern theologians to reflect on the crucial topic of energy, asking: What are some of the connections between energy and theology? How do ideas about humanity and divinity interrelate with how we live our lives? Its contributors address energy in at least three distinct ways. First, in terms of physics, the discovery of dark energy in 1998 uncovered a mysterious force that seems to be driving the inflation of the universe. Here cosmology converges with theological reflection about the nature and origin of the universe. Second, the social and ecological contexts of energy use and the current energy crisis have theological implications insofar as they are caught up with ultimate human meanings and values. Finally, in more traditional theological terms of divine spiritual energy, we can ask how human conceptions of energy relate to divine energy in terms of creative power.

Book The God Debate

    Book Details:
  • Author : Gerald Benedict
  • Publisher : Watkins Media Limited
  • Release : 2013-06-06
  • ISBN : 178028618X

Download or read book The God Debate written by Gerald Benedict and published by Watkins Media Limited. This book was released on 2013-06-06 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Between the sublime confidence of both biblical fundamentalists and radical atheists lie various shades of belief, agnosticism, wishful thinking and escapist fantasy. The passion to prove the existence of God has always been frustrated by rationalism and always will be, which is why the subject of God's existence will continue to be an enigma. This book comprehensively explores the many controversial issues contained within the debate, touching on such questions as the truth of scripture, the validity of miracles, the whole question of the afterlife, and whether, of course, proof on matters of faith is ever going to be possible. Atheists contend that God is an invention for those unable to face the finality of death; believers that the existence of God is the only basis on which to build and live a meaningful life. Bound up with these perennially contested themes are equally searching arguments concerning free will and determinism, morality and ethics, and the moral and social effectiveness of a secular community compared to one administered by religious authority. These questions matter, affecting the way we live our lives, both collectively and as individuals. Avoiding the black-and-white thinking of those at the incandescent core of this debate, this book offers a refreshing mix of nimble (never restrictive) logic and questioning (never unthinking) spirituality.

Book The Plain Truths of Religion

Download or read book The Plain Truths of Religion written by Gareth Wilson and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2010-07 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Religion is a duplicitous invention of primitive humans, diametrically opposed to our moral intuition, and driven by belief in gods whose existence is neither evident nor probable. These are just some of the damning conclusions reached by Gareth Wilson within his pulsating assessment of organised faith. Sweeping aside the punditry of religious apologists and their critique of previous atheist works, The Plain Truths of Religion is the most extensive and full-blooded summation of both the nature and purpose of humankind's greatest belief systems. As such, this piece is as raw as it is incisive, and certainly not a read for the faint-hearted.

Book Life and Mortality in Ugaritic

Download or read book Life and Mortality in Ugaritic written by Matthew McAffee and published by Penn State Press. This book was released on 2019-12-11 with total page 391 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While topics such as death, funerary cult, and the netherworld have received considerable scholarly attention in the context of the Ugaritic textual corpus, the related concept of life has been relatively neglected. Life and Mortality in Ugaritic takes as its premise that one cannot grasp the significance of mwt (“to die”) without first having wrestled with the concept of ḥyy (“to live”). In this book, Matthew McAffee takes a lexical approach to the study of life and death in the Ugaritic textual corpus. He identifies and analyzes the Ugaritic terms most commonly used to talk about life and mortality in order to construct a more representative framework of the ancient perspective on these topics, and he concludes by synthesizing the results of this lexical study into a broader literary discussion that considers, among other things, the implications for our understanding of the first-millennium Katumuwa stele from Zincirli. McAffee’s study complements previous scholarly work in this area, which has tended to rely on conceptual and theoretical treatment of mortality, and advances the discussion by providing a more focused lexical analysis of the Ugaritic terms in question. It will be of interest to Semitic scholars and those who study Ugaritic in particular, in addition to students of the culture of the ancient Levant.
