Book excerpt: Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made available for future generations to enjoy.

Book A Fully Customizable Anatomically Correct Model of the Crystalline Lens

Download or read book A Fully Customizable Anatomically Correct Model of the Crystalline Lens written by Cynthia Nicole Wilson and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The human eye is a complex optical system comprised of many components. The crystalline lens, an optical component with a gradient index (GRIN), is perhaps the least understood as it is situated inside the eye and as a result is difficult to characterize. Its complex nonlinear structure is not easily measured and consequently not easily modeled. Presently several models of the GRIN structure exist describing the average performance of crystalline lenses. These models, however, do not accurately describe the performance of crystalline lenses on an individual basis and a more accurate individual eye model based on anatomical parameters is needed. This thesis proposes an anatomically correct, individually customizable crystalline lens model. This is an important tool and is needed both for research on the optical properties of human eyes and to diagnose and plan the treatment of optically based visual problems, such as refractive surgery planning. The lens model consisted of an interior GRIN with a constant refractive index core. The anterior and posterior surface was described by conic sections. To realize this eye model, the optical and biometric properties of mammalian lenses were measured and the correlation relationships between these measurements were used to simplify the model down to one fitting parameter which controls the shape of the GRIN. Using this data, an anatomically correct individualizable model of the lens was successfully realized with varying parameters unique to each lens. Using this customizable lens model, customizable human eye models based on measurements of the entire human eye can be realized.

Book Pediatric Lens Diseases

Download or read book Pediatric Lens Diseases written by Yizhi Liu and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-12-01 with total page 377 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on disorders of the lens, which are a major cause of blindness in children. During development, children’s eyes have unique physiological and structural characteristics, such as an immature blood-aqueous barrier, which presents considerable challenges for ophthalmologists involved in the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric lens disorders. Throughout the book, the pathology, examination, anesthesia, surgical treatment and nursing care of pediatric lens disorders are discussed in detail. It not only presents diverse pictures and images from clinical practice, it also includes the latest findings in the field. It will be of interest to ophthalmologists and paediatricians looking to improve the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric lens disorders and provide a valuable reference resource for all those involved in ophthalmic clinical practice, teaching and research.
