Book Emission and Scattering Techniques

Download or read book Emission and Scattering Techniques written by Peter R. Day and published by Springer. This book was released on 2011-11-03 with total page 398 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Centrally important to the progress of inorganic chemistry is the application of new physical techniques for determining crystal and molecular structures. Electronic structure, too, can now be explored by a large variety of spectros copic techniques, most of them of quite recent origin. Realizing how essential it was to bring together experts in the techniques themselves and those who might use them for their own chemical purposes, Professor Furlani and I began in the early 1970's to organize small meetings at which this kind of interchange could take place. The first, funded by the Italian National Research Council and Ministry of Education, was at Frascati in 1971. It was followed by others at Oxford (1974) and Pugnochiuso (1977), funded under the NATO Advanced Study Institutes programme. Lectures given at the Oxford Advanced Study Institute were published by D. Reidel under the title Electronic States of Inorganic Compounds: New Experimental Techniques. A three year interval between these Institutes has proved suitable both for introducing new generations of potential users to the methods and allowing us to incorporate advances in the methods themselves. In fact, since the last Advanced Study Institute in the series several important advances have occurred, particularly in electron, ion and neutron spectros copies. We concentrated the course for 1980 on these newer aspects, though the more specialized lectures were prefaced with introductory material for those not familiar with the general principles.

Book Structure and Properties of Molecular Crystals

Download or read book Structure and Properties of Molecular Crystals written by Marcel Pierrot and published by Elsevier Publishing Company. This book was released on 1990 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this book is to focus attention on crystallographic research on molecular crystals. In recent years, molecular crystals have ceased to be regarded as mere laboratory curiosities, especially since they have begun to make their appearance in the industrial field. This volume consists of three parts comprising six chapters. Part one is devoted to various aspects of the study of crystals. A knowledge of the three-dimensional structure of molecules is absolutely essential in order to understand the nature of chemical bonds and the mechanism and dynamics of reactions. Chapter one deals with the study of molecular structures by X-ray diffraction. This brings out the results that one may expect from the analysis of crystal structures. Recent results concerning molecular conformation and chemical reactivity are also described. By means of numerous examples, chapter two illustrates the importance of studying organic reactions in the solid state. A number of new reactions are also presented. In the future, crystallography may be used to predict crystal structures. Crystal engineering is of the utmost importance in designing new materials.

Book Electronic Structure and Magnetism of Inorganic Compounds

Download or read book Electronic Structure and Magnetism of Inorganic Compounds written by P Day and published by Royal Society of Chemistry. This book was released on 2007-10-31 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Specialist Periodical Reports provide systematic and detailed review coverage of progress in the major areas of chemical research. Written by experts in their specialist fields the series creates a unique service for the active research chemist, supplying regular critical in-depth accounts of progress in particular areas of chemistry. For over 80 years the Royal Society of Chemistry and its predecessor, the Chemical Society, have been publishing reports charting developments in chemistry, which originally took the form of Annual Reports. However, by 1967 the whole spectrum of chemistry could no longer be contained within one volume and the series Specialist Periodical Reports was born. The Annual Reports themselves still existed but were divided into two, and subsequently three, volumes covering Inorganic, Organic and Physical Chemistry. For more general coverage of the highlights in chemistry they remain a 'must'. Since that time the SPR series has altered according to the fluctuating degree of activity in various fields of chemistry. Some titles have remained unchanged, while others have altered their emphasis along with their titles; some have been combined under a new name whereas others have had to be discontinued. The current list of Specialist Periodical Reports can be seen on the inside flap of this volume.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern Crystallography provides an encyclopedic exposition of the field in four volumes written by Russian scientists. Structures of Crystals considers the ideal and real atomic structure of crystals as well as their electronic structures, the fundamentals of chemical bonding between atoms, geometric representations in the theory of crystal structure and crystal chemistry, as well as lattice energy. The important classes of crystal structures in inorganic compounds as well as structure polymers, liquid crystals, biological crystals, and macromolecules are treated. This second edition is complemented by recent data on many types of crystal structures - fullerenes, high-temperature superconductors, minerals, liquid crystals, etc.
