Book The Cry of a Child in the Nocturnal Darkness

Download or read book The Cry of a Child in the Nocturnal Darkness written by Agrey Emile A. Coudakpo and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2012-11 with total page 143 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The story of a child who cries for help in the dark in hope to find a way to the light without knowing that he is part of that darkness and light himself. The child was born between two tribes, darkness tribe and lightning tribe. His mother, Adjo, wandered off from the darkness tribe to meet her lover, who was the child's father, Kafui, from the lightning tribe. They both knew their union could be fatal because of the differences of their tribes, but their love blinded them to know how different they were, their inevitable love was rejected by both the darkness tribe and lightning tribe. Worried of the outcome of their forbidden love, they suddenly got scared and fled from the mistake they had made. The two lovers realized how their difference could not match; they both rejoined their tribes in fear to meet again, but it was too late because the seed of their love already began to sprout into an unborn child. From their inevitable love came a newborn child who was a combination of the two tribes of darkness and lightning, which the two tribes decided to eliminate. There was an elder woman in the darkness tribe named Pauline who seemed to be the child's grandmother and who had supernatural powers that could balance both darkness and lightning. The elder woman then secretly took the child for fear that both the lightning and darkness tribes could destroy the child and that the mother could not be able to balance the two combinations of darkness and lightning within the child and protect him at the same time. The elder woman Pauline escaped to many different tribes to raise the child; she named the child Komla, meaning the birth of two strong powers. Growing up, Komla realized he was part of the darkness and lightning who rejected him and that he lost the only sparkle of light that cared and protected him. He felt lonely, and out of blame, he projected himself into a nocturnal darkness.

Book excerpt: Untamable. Damaged. Angry. Once full of promise and life, now lost in the shadows of resentment and detachment, this is Dream of Night's story—and it is also Shiloh’s. One is a thoroughbred racehorse, the other an eleven-year-old foster child. Starved to the bone, Dream of Night is still a very powerful animal, kicking, bucking, screaming to show his strength. Shiloh has been starved in other ways—starved of affection, starved of stability and she lashes out too…with sarcasm. This injured and abused racehorse has a lot in common with punky Shiloh and by chance they both find themselves under the care of Jessalyn DiLima—a last stop for each before the state takes more drastic measures—sending the girl to a “residential facility” and the horse to a vet...for euthanizing. Jess is giving them a second chance, a last chance—but she fosters animals and children like this for a reason—she’s a little broken, too. And she knows what it’s like to have lost nearly everything she loves. As the horse warms up to the girl and the girl lets her guard down for the horse, the three of them become an unlikely family. They recognize their similarities in order to heal their pasts, but not before one last tragedy threatens to take it all away.

Book The Origins Prevention and Treatment of Infant Crying and Sleeping Problems

Download or read book The Origins Prevention and Treatment of Infant Crying and Sleeping Problems written by Ian St James-Roberts and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-07-03 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Babies who cry a lot, or are unsettled in the night, are common sources of concern for parents and, consequently, costly problems for health services. In this book, Ian St James-Roberts summarises the evidence concerning infant crying and sleeping problems to provide a new evidence-based approach to these common challenges for parents and health services. The book begins by distinguishing between infant and parental parts of the problems and provides guidelines for assessing each issue. Topics covered include: • the pros and cons of 'infant-demand' versus 'limit-setting' forms of parenting • causes of infant 'colicky' crying and night waking • effects of night-time separations on infant attachments • interventions such as swaddling, herbal remedies, and 'controlled crying.' Since there is now firm evidence that parents' vulnerabilities and cultural backgrounds affect how problems are defined and guidance is acted upon, and that parents who wish to do so can reduce infant crying and unsettled night waking, social factors are considered alongside medical issues. Translating research evidence into practical tools and guidance, The Origins, Prevention and Treatment of Infant Crying and Sleeping Problems will be essential reading for a wide range of healthcare professionals including mental health staff, social workers, midwives, health visitors, community physicians and paediatricians.

Book excerpt: Embarking on motherhood was a very different affair in the 1950s to what it is today. From how to dress baby (matinee coats and bonnets) to how to administer feeds (strictly four-hourly if following the Truby King method), the childrearing methods of the 1950s are a fascinating insight into the lives of women in that decade. In A 1950s Mother, author, mother and grandmother Sheila Hardy collects heart-warming, personal anecdotes from those women who became mothers during this fascinating post-war period. From the benefits of 'crying it out' and being put out in the garden to gripe water and Listen with Mother, the wisdom of mothers from the 1950s reverberates down the decades to young mothers of any generation and is a hilarious and, at times, poignant trip down memory lane for any mother or child of the 1950s.
