Ambition and schemes have left the Kisian Empire in ashes. Empress Miko Ts’ai will have to move fast if she hopes to secure a foothold in its ruins. However, the line between enemies and allies may not be as clear-cut as it first appeared. After failing to win back his Swords, former Captain Rah e’Torin finds shelter among the Levanti deserters. Book Blood That Cries Out From the Earth

Download or read book Blood That Cries Out From the Earth written by James Jones and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2008-04-11 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Religious terrorism has become the scourge of the modern world. What causes a person to kill innocent strangers in the name of religion? As both a clinical psychologist and an authority on comparative religion, James W. Jones is uniquely qualified to address this increasingly urgent question. Research on the psychology of violence shows that several factors work to make ordinary people turn "evil." These include feelings of humiliation or shame, a tendency to see the world in black and white, and demonization or dehumanization of other people. Authoritarian religion or "fundamentalism," Jones shows, is a particularly rich source of such ideas and feelings, which he finds throughout the writings of Islamic jihadists, such as the 9/11 conspirators.Jones goes on to apply this model to two very different religious groups that have engaged in violence: Aum Shinrikyo, the Buddhist splinter group behind the sarin gas attacks in the Tokyo subway system, and members of the extreme religious right in the U.S. who have advocated and committed violence against abortion providers. Jones notes that not every adherent of an authoritarian group will turn to violence, and he shows how theories of personality development can explain why certain individuals are easily recruited to perform terrorist acts.

Book Tears of Blood

Download or read book Tears of Blood written by Young-Bok Yoo and published by . This book was released on 2012-09-24 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On August 30, 2000, a commercial passenger jet arriving from China touched down at Gimpo International Airport in South Korea. There was nothing unusual about the plane or about the flight. What was miraculous was the seventy-year-old gentleman who walked down the ramp into the waiting arms of his family. That traveler was Mr. Young-Bok Yoo, and this was the end of his fifty-year journey through the darkness of hell into the daylight of freedom. Mr. Yoo was among 60,000 POWs who were never released by North Korea at the end of the Korean War. Unlike most of the others, he survived and he escaped. Today he fights for the repatriation of his fellow POWs who remain behind. Paul T. Kim's translation brings Mr. Yoo's saga to Western readers for the first time. More than a Korean story, it is an inspirational tale of the survival of the human spirit in the face of overwhelming sorrow and injustice. This book was sponsored by Korean War POW Affairs-USA, an NGO that advocates on behalf of Korean POWs and their families. Book excerpt: Irish troops have served 40,000 individual tours of duty over four decades in Lebanon. All over Ireland, in almost every family, there is a father, a brother, a sister, son, daughter or cousin who has come under fire in South Lebanon. Forty-seven Irish troops died in Lebanon and thousands more have returned with physical and psychological injuries. Blood, Sweat and Tears tells the true story of the Irish at war. Clonan brings the reader on a tour of duty in Lebanon from 1995 to 1996. His vivid account brings you from a rain-swept Dublin Airport on a dark October night to the massacre of 118 innocent men, women and children in the village of Qana, South Lebanon in April 1996. The reader is taken on patrol with the Irish army and shares in their black humour, their fears, frustration and pain. It is through this odyssey that the heartbreaking nature of peacekeeping operations as seen through Irish eyes is laid bare like never before. Blood, Sweat and Tears is above all a story of personal loss, loneliness and the psychological trauma of military service in a time of war. As the narrator comes to terms with the slaughter of innocents around him, he will ultimately be confronted with the loss of those closest to him at home in Ireland. 'Tom Clonan brings to life the sights, sounds, smells and characters of southern Lebanon. His beautifully written book is in turns funny, gripping and heart-breaking.' - Lara Marlowe
