Book Handbook of Innovation Systems and Developing Countries

Download or read book Handbook of Innovation Systems and Developing Countries written by Bengt-Åke Lundvall and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2011-01-01 with total page 411 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The innovation systems (IS) approach emerged as a theoretical framework in the industrialized world in the mid-1990s to explain innovation and growth in the developed world. This Handbook is the first attempt to adapt the IS approach to developing countries from a theoretical and empirical viewpoint. The Handbook brings eminent scholars in economics, innovation and development studies together with promising young researchers to review the literature and push theoretical boundaries. They critically review the IS approach and its adequacy for developing countries, discuss the relationship between IS and development, and address the question of how it should be adapted to the realities of developing nations. Spanning national, sectoral and regional innovation systems across Asia, Latin America and Africa, and written by the world s leading scholars within the field, this comprehensive Handbook will strongly appeal to academics, researchers and students with an interest in innovation and technology in developing countries.

Book Acquisition of Technological Capability in Small Firms in Developing Countries

Download or read book Acquisition of Technological Capability in Small Firms in Developing Countries written by H. Romijn and published by Springer. This book was released on 1998-11-18 with total page 382 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An authoritative examination of how small firms in developing countries acquire technological capability - the knowledge and skills required to operate technology effectively and to adapt it to local conditions. It fills a gap in the established literature on technological capability, which has neglected the small-scale sector in spite of the important role it plays in employment generation. The author develops a methodology for a quantitative assessment of the learning process, using case material from the small-scale capital goods sector in Pakistan's Punjab Province.

Book Innovation Systems and Capabilities in Developing Regions

Download or read book Innovation Systems and Capabilities in Developing Regions written by Willie Siyanbola and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-05-23 with total page 426 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In today's knowledge-driven world, innovation and innovation systems have become key policy issues. However, the extent of knowledge that is available on these concepts in less developed countries is still relatively low. Much of what we know about innovation theory and systems has come from the developed countries and reflects their world view. This apparent knowledge deficit has major implications for less developed countries. Innovation Systems and Capabilities in Developing Regions adds to the growing body of knowledge on developing countries. The theoretical and empirical case studies presented here advance the notion that, while developing countries may not engage in frontier research, a critical knowledge base upon which these countries compete for global markets is emerging. There is evidence that state and non-state actors are increasingly emphasising policies that sit within the framework of national innovation systems. This book illuminates this shift in policy competence at national levels. The contributions in this volume highlight the need for thorough understanding of the role of diffusion-based innovation linked to technology transfer and acquisition. They also provide empirical evidence on the drivers, dynamics and impact of such innovation in developing economies and the constraints that apply. Contributors also document the application of the innovation system approach in developing countries as well as the build-up and diffusion of technological capabilities within innovation systems. Academics, higher level students, policy makers and practitioners involved with innovation and the economics of technical change, particularly in developing countries, will find this a valuable book.

Book Strengthening Technological Capability

Download or read book Strengthening Technological Capability written by and published by Gyan Publishing House. This book was released on 1999 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present volume is an outcome of NISTADS-FICCI joint workshop on issues related to Industry- Research and Development (R&D) interactions. The workshop has provided a platform of interaction between researchers in Science and Technology studies and representatives of industries. Discussions revealed that Industry-R&D interaction is actually a means to strengthen technological capabilities of a developing country. This volume, therefore, has been re-christened to highlight the technological capability aspect of developing economies. The volume addresses the issues related to: " technology transfer " human resource development, " role of technology policies, " institutionalization of industry R&D interactions, etc. Contributions on experiences of South Korea and Latin American countries have been added to enrich the volume. The role of international development agencies in technological capability building adds the global dimension to the issues studied. The book would be of immense interest to the scholars of policy research, R&D organizations and industries of developing countries. The policy makers and planning bodies would find the experiences and analyses useful for decision making.

Book Technology Transfer and Innovation for Low Carbon Development

Download or read book Technology Transfer and Innovation for Low Carbon Development written by Miria Pigato and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2020-04-09 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Technological revolutions have increased the world’s wealth unevenly and in ways that have accelerated climate change. This report argues that achieving The Paris Agreement’s objectives would require a massive transfer of existing and commercially proven low-carbon technologies (LCT) from high-income to developing countries where the bulk of future emissions is expected to occur. This mass deployment is not only a necessity but also an opportunity: Policies to deploy LCT can help countries achieve economic and other development objectives, like improving human health, in addition to reducing greenhouse gases (GHGs). Additionally, LCT deployment offers an opportunity for countries with sufficient capabilities to benefit from participation in global value chains and produce and export LCTs. Finally, the report calls for a greater international involvement in supporting the poorest countries, which have the least access to LCT and finance and the most underdeveloped physical, technological, and institutional capabilities that are essential to benefit from technology.
