Book Abstracts of the Wills and Inventories of Bath County Virginia 1791 1842

Download or read book Abstracts of the Wills and Inventories of Bath County Virginia 1791 1842 written by Jean Randolph Bruns and published by Genealogical Publishing Com. This book was released on 1995 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Bath County, in western Virginia, was formed from Augusta, Botetourt, and Greenbrier counties in 1791. It is itself the parent county for part of Alleghany County, Virginia, and Pocahontas County, West Virginia. This work consists of genealogical abstracts of the oldest surviving wills and inventories for Bath County--but that's not all. Interspersed with the inheritance records are abstracts of bonds, powers of attorney, estate settlements, articles of agreement, and other records of genealogical import. In general the will abstracts furnish the name of the testator, his county of residence, the names of witnesses and executors, the date of probate, and the names and relationships to the testator of the heirs to the will. All told, nearly 15,000 early residents of Bath County appear in these pages"--Publisher website (August 2007).

Book Annals of Bath County Virginia

Download or read book Annals of Bath County Virginia written by Oren F. Morton and published by . This book was released on 1918 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bath has a small number of people, and a considerable share of this small number is a new element. To many individuals of the latter class a history of the county will appeal very little. For the above reasons we confine ourselves to a presentation of the more striking and important features in the story of this county. But if, in a commercial sense, this county seemed only a moderately promising field for a local history, it remains very true that Bath is one of the best known counties of the Old Dominion. It is one of the older counties in the Alleghany belt, and it lies on a natural highway of travel and commerce. The story of its evolution is one of much interest. -- Foreword.

Book excerpt: Bath was the first town to be incorporated in North Carolina (1705-6).This book focuses on the many ways in which Bath played a significant role during North Carolina's formative years. From piracy and conflicts with Native Americans to political and regional factionalism, Bath was at the center of the colony's economic and political life. Edward Teach, also known as Blackbeard, may have lived there. The oldest surviving church in North Carolina (1734), St. Thomas Episcopal Church still stands in Bath. As the first port of entry for the colony, Bath traded raw materials such as naval stores, tobacco, and deerskins for finished products from distant shores. This entertaining paperback opens a historic window on both the town of Bath and on North Carolina's distant colonial past.

Book excerpt: Kat Lind, an American expatriate living in London with her entrepreneur husband and their young son, attends an opening at a prestigious Mayfair art gallery and is astonished to find her own face on the walls. The portraits are evidence of a long-ago love affair with the artist, Daniel Blake. Unbeknownst to her, he has continued to paint her ever since. Kat is seduced by her reflection on canvas and when Daniel appears in London, she finds herself drawn back into the sins and solace of a past that suddenly no longer seems so far away. When the portraits catch the attention of the public, threatening to reveal not only her identity, but all that lies beyond the edges of the canvases, Kat comes face to face with the true price of their beauty and with all that she now could lose. Moving between the glamour of the London art world and the sensuous days of a love affair in a dusty Paris studio, life and art bleed together as Daniel and Kat's lives spin out of control, leading to a conclusion that is anything but inevitable, in Mary Waters-Sayer's The Blue Bath.
