Book excerpt: When Gwen Marlow’s father invited her to celebrate her eighteenth birthday at his Ski Resort in North Carolina, he forgot to mention a few small details; why he'd vanished from her life, that he drank like a fish, he loved to gamble, and he wasn’t human. Five years earlier Gideon had been dealt the perfect hand, four queens and an ace. Short of cash, he’d used his daughter as collateral in a poker game. Except Otto had four kings and an ace. Now holding the contract, Otto expected Gwen to become his mate. And the leadership of the Pride is too high a stake to gamble away.Gwen has no intention of honoring that contract. One way or another she was getting off that mountain. Even if she had to be carried away in a hearse. After his father’s murder Tyrel Henderson had walked away from his Pride and everything it stood for. Why had he let Gideon talk him into tracking the green eyed blonde in jeans and hiking boots through the Smokey Mountains? She would experience her first heat soon. Could he control his own natural desires and fulfill his mission? The sooner he could locate her and get her delivered to Otto, the happier he would be. Fate was still laughing…T This steamy paranormal romance book is meant for mature readers and contains graphic sex scenes.

This book was released on 2021-10-05 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A fascinating and in-depth look at Victoria's largely unknown professional hockey players in the early twentieth century, and the historical context in which they played. For most hockey fans hailing from Canada’s westernmost province, the sport’s most coveted prize, the Stanley Cup, has remained frustratingly elusive for nearly a century. But what many people do not know is that the west coast, and in particular the city of Victoria, was once a hockey mecca, where superstars flourished, Hall of Famers were made, and big victories—yes, even the Stanley Cup of 1925—were won. Capitals, Aristocrats, and Cougars is a deep dive into the world of professional hockey in Victoria from 1911 to 1925, an era that saw forty-nine men take their turns in one of the city’s newly minted teams. It was also an era of unprecedented social, economic, and political change, a period that spanned the First World War and redefined Canada’s national identity. With meticulous research and encyclopedic knowledge, author, historian, and consummate hockey fan Alan Livingstone MacLeod chronicles the key players, coaches, arena builders, and team visionaries who contributed to this long-forgotten chapter of hockey history, and puts them all in the context of what was going on in the world at the time. This in-depth account is sure to delight history buffs and hockey fans alike.

Book US Army and Marine Corps MRAPs

Download or read book US Army and Marine Corps MRAPs written by Mike Guardia and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2013-11-20 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle is the newest land warfare system in the United States Army and Marine Corps inventory. Designed to meet the challenges of operating in a counterinsurgency environment, the MRAP has taken survivability to a new level. MRAPs are currently manufactured by three companies: BAE Systems, Navistar International Military Group, and Force Protection Inc. Each company manufactures an MRAP according to one of three classifications set by the US Department of Defense: Category I, Category II, or Category III. The Category I MRAPs are designed for urban combat. Category II covers the MRAPs designed for convoy security, medical evacuation, and explosive ordnance disposal. The Category III MRAP performs the same function as Category II but is designed to carry more personnel. Since their introduction in 2007, MRAPs have performed remarkably in the asymmetric warfare environment. Their unique design and survivability characteristics have saved the lives hundreds of soldiers who otherwise would have been lost to landmines or IED attacks. As with any combat system, however, the MRAP is not without its drawbacks.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Maurice Hornocker is recognized worldwide as the first scientist to unravel the secrets of America's most enigmatic predator—the mountain lion. A story of redemption, this book is a memoir about the never-before-told adventures, challenges, and controversies surrounding Hornocker’s groundbreaking study of cougars in the remote reaches of the Idaho Primitive Area. North America's biggest cat was once killed for bounty dollars, slaughtered with impunity and driven toward extinction. But today's cat of intrigue, despite our lingering fears and misconceptions, has returned to much of its native range in the western United States and gained respect as a predator integral and necessary to wild ecosystems. This turnaround was triggered by one man: Maurice Hornocker. Cougars on the Cliff recounts the early years of his research (1964–1973) when he tracked lions following a dog’s nose and footprints in the snow—before telemetry was available. Hornocker was first to learn that mountain lions living in stable populations limit their own numbers through territoriality and a concept he called “mutual avoidance.” This insight flew in the face of long-held beliefs that cougars were prolific and wanton killers that needed to be controlled as vermin. Thanks to Hornocker’s work, today cougars can be found throughout the West and have even started to reclaim their place in New England.
