Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is no vacuum in life. The blessings of salvation also come with its equivalent challenges and price. Yes we are saved, yes we are delivered from sin, yes we are free from sickness, yes we cannot be poor, yes witches and wizards have no power over us, yes we are the children of destiny and yes we are a holy nation and a peculiar people unto God. but is that all? It is not. as beautiful and attractive as all of these are, they are merely the additions to our faith. There is a purpose why he called us. That is the major essence of our faith. The blessings of the faith are just to sustain and keep us while we fulfill the purpose of our salvation. The essence of this book is to actually help us discover this purpose and stay on it. God is very interested in loading us with the numerous benefits of salvation, but first thing first. Christianity is not merely a reality, it is also a very serious business. It is more than giving prayer requests, coming to church when convenient and greedily searching the heavens for the second coming. It cost young Steven his life not to mention the rest of the disciples. That should tell you how serious it is. It is not merely about God bless me. God will bless us. That is not a big deal for Him. After all, the scripture says that He causes the rain to fall for both sinner and the saint. If He can bless the unbeliever, why won't He bless you? Blessing is not the problem here. We are talking about getting God's approval. We are talking about expanding the kingdom of God on earth. We are talking about you becoming a spiritual force. We are talking about your affecting lives. We are talking about winning souls into the kingdom. We are talking about you knowing and fulfilling your call. We are talking about wearing the crown of life on the last day and not merely entering heaven as by fire. He will not crown the Christian who has not paid the price for the call. This is why this book has titled the call and the cost. It tells us that there is a call and a price to pay for it. Go through the scripture, those who received the best of God and got Him to be committed personally to them were men who heed the call and paid the price for their faith. You cannot talk about the greatness of Abraham without talking about the one who waited a hundred years for a son and yet was much willing to offer the same child to God as a burnt offering. You cannot talk about Joseph and the lofty position he attained as the prime minister of Egypt without talking about the temptation of Potiphar's wife and the prison. You cannot talk about Moses and the promised land without talking about Pharaoh and the wilderness experience. You cannot talk about the victory of Jephthah without talking about the one who offered his only daughter to the Lord as a burnt offering. You cannot talk about the double portion of the anointing of Elisha without talking about the one who poured water upon the hands of Elijah and in spite of the dazzling brightness of the chariot of fire, strained his sight to see his master taken away. You cannot talk about the success of David without talking about the one who will not give to God that which cost him nothing. You cannot talk about Daniel in Lion's den or the three Hebrews brothers in the midst of the flame without talking about the ones who stood for what they believed. Above all, you cannot talk about Jesus and the gift of grace and salvation, which has appeared to you and me, without talking about the cross. If there were no need, these ones would not have paid the price.

Book Creating Value with Big Data Analytics

Download or read book Creating Value with Big Data Analytics written by Peter C. Verhoef and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-01-08 with total page 339 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our newly digital world is generating an almost unimaginable amount of data about all of us. Such a vast amount of data is useless without plans and strategies that are designed to cope with its size and complexity, and which enable organisations to leverage the information to create value. This book is a refreshingly practical, yet theoretically sound roadmap to leveraging big data and analytics. Creating Value with Big Data Analytics provides a nuanced view of big data development, arguing that big data in itself is not a revolution but an evolution of the increasing availability of data that has been observed in recent times. Building on the authors’ extensive academic and practical knowledge, this book aims to provide managers and analysts with strategic directions and practical analytical solutions on how to create value from existing and new big data. By tying data and analytics to specific goals and processes for implementation, this is a much-needed book that will be essential reading for students and specialists of data analytics, marketing research, and customer relationship management.

Book The Mythology of Crime and Criminal Justice

Download or read book The Mythology of Crime and Criminal Justice written by Victor E. Kappeler and published by Waveland Press. This book was released on 2017-07-18 with total page 544 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The social construction of crime is often out of proportion to the threat posed. The media and advocacy groups shine a spotlight on some crimes and ignore others. Street crime is highlighted as putting everyone at risk of victimization, while the greater social harms from corporate malfeasance receive far less attention. Social arrangements dictate what is defined as crime and the punishments for those who engage in the proscribed behavior. Interest groups promote their agendas by appealing to public fears. Justifications often have no basis in fact, but the public accepts the exaggerations and blames the targeted offenders. The net-widening effect of more laws and more punishment catches those least able to defend themselves. This innovative alternative to traditional textbooks provides insightful observations of myths and trends in criminal justice. Fourteen chapters challenge misconceptions about specific crimes or aspects of the criminal justice system. Kappeler and Potter dissect popular images of crimes and criminals in a cogent, compelling, and engaging manner. They trace the social construction of each issue and identify the misleading statistics and fears that form the basis of myths—and the collateral damage of basing policies on mythical beliefs. The authors encourage skepticism about commonly accepted beliefs, offer readers a fresh perspective, and urge them to analyze important issues from novel vantage points.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Call Bible Study Book is an intentional 6-session disciple-making study that answers the question "Who am I as a disciple of Christ?" More than a Bible study on identity, The Call is a disciple-making resource that emphasizes practice and mentoring for group settings of multiple sizes to take disciples on a journey into what it means to be a disciple of Jesus. Like all the releases in the Disciples Path series, The Call uses teaching, questions, conversation, exercises, and individual study to facilitate transformational discipleship. It begins by exploring the question "Who is Jesus?" Then it takes group members through the priorities of a disciple, the cost of a disciple, and the fruit of a disciple. Far too often we neglect to teach the trust cost of discipleship. It could end up costing everything, but true discipleship is worth that and even more. The sessions include: 1. Who Is Jesus? 2. What Did Jesus Do? 3. Following Jesus 4. The Priorities of a Disciple 5. The Cost of a Disciple 6. The Fruit of a Disciple The study includes an introduction to the weekly session topic, guided prayer options, and Scripture focus with text and narrative explanation that drives the weekly meeting. Also included each week are discussion questions and group exercises that reinforce the primary teaching points of each topic. Individual study and out-of-group activities have all been crafted to help users take their next step as disciples of Christ. These optional activities include but are not limited to reading plans, prayer exercises, personal study, and journaling. Book The Costs of Connection

Download or read book The Costs of Connection written by Nick Couldry and published by Stanford University Press. This book was released on 2019-08-20 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Just about any social need is now met with an opportunity to "connect" through digital means. But this convenience is not free—it is purchased with vast amounts of personal data transferred through shadowy backchannels to corporations using it to generate profit. The Costs of Connection uncovers this process, this "data colonialism," and its designs for controlling our lives—our ways of knowing; our means of production; our political participation. Colonialism might seem like a thing of the past, but this book shows that the historic appropriation of land, bodies, and natural resources is mirrored today in this new era of pervasive datafication. Apps, platforms, and smart objects capture and translate our lives into data, and then extract information that is fed into capitalist enterprises and sold back to us. The authors argue that this development foreshadows the creation of a new social order emerging globally—and it must be challenged. Confronting the alarming degree of surveillance already tolerated, they offer a stirring call to decolonize the internet and emancipate our desire for connection.
