Book Quantitative Assessment of Irradiation Effect on Creep and Corrosion Properties of Zr Base Alloys

Download or read book Quantitative Assessment of Irradiation Effect on Creep and Corrosion Properties of Zr Base Alloys written by Y. Tukuta and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In order to qualify the properties of alternative zirconium-base alloys as fuel cladding material in PWRs, the segmented fuel rod irradiation program is being performed. In this program, segmented fuel rods were irradiated in Vandellos-2 to have burn-ups of 25 to 60 GWd/t, and more than 40 rods were examined by profilometry and/or eddy-current oxide measurement in hot cells at Studsvik. In parallel to the irradiation test, out-of-pile creep and corrosion tests were carried out on the archive claddings.

Book Development and Properties of Uranium base Alloys Corrosion Resistant in High Temperature Water

Download or read book Development and Properties of Uranium base Alloys Corrosion Resistant in High Temperature Water written by I. Cohen and published by . This book was released on 1955 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The effects of pile irradiations on the physical properties and corrosion resistance of U-- Mo, U-- Nb; and U--Si alloys are reported. The dimensional stability under irradiation of the gamma phase U-- Mo and U-- Nb alloys is excellent; however, an isotropic volume increase of 4 to 6% per wt.% burnup may limit the ultimate fuel element life. Corrosion resistance of the gamma-phase alloys appesrs to be improved when subjected to s neutron field; this is attributed to an irrsdiation induced stabilization of the gamma phases. The U/ sub 3/Si alloy, on the other hand, suffered severe deterioration, particularly of corrosion resistance. Changes in electrical resistivity, hardness, mechanical properties, and crystal structure are presented and the mechanisms producing the observed changes discussed.

Book Corrosion and Failure Characteristics of Zirconium Alloys in High Pressure Steam in the Temperature Range 400 to 500 C

Download or read book Corrosion and Failure Characteristics of Zirconium Alloys in High Pressure Steam in the Temperature Range 400 to 500 C written by A. B. Johnson and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 15 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A nuclear fuel-failure phenomenon prompted a study of the corrosion properties of the Zircaloy-2 fuel cladding. The principal studies were conducted at 400, 450, 475, and 500 C in steam at 1700 psig. Materials tested were: five lots of Zircaloy-2; one lot of Ozhennite (Zr-0.2Sn-0.1Fe-0.1Ni-0.1Nb); and one lot of crystal bar zirconium. As-fabricated (rolled or extruded) Zircaloy-2 underwent a rapid approach to failure in tests at 475 and 500 C. The attack involved nucleation of nodular oxide which spread across the surface, finally resulting in an accelerated, relatively uniform attack. Ozhennite was resistant to the attack. Heat treatments (? and ? anneals) delayed the catastrophic attack on Zircaloy-2 but not on crystal bar zirconium.

Book Zirconium in the Nuclear Industry

Download or read book Zirconium in the Nuclear Industry written by Gerry D. Moan and published by ASTM International. This book was released on 2002 with total page 891 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Annotation The 41 papers of this proceedings volume were first presented at the 13th symposium on Zirconium in the Nuclear Industry held in Annecy, France in June of 2001. Many of the papers are devoted to material related issues, corrosion and hydriding behavior, in-reactor studies, and the behavior and properties of Zr alloys used in storing spent fuel. Some papers report on studies of second phase particles, irradiation creep and growth, and material performance during loss of coolant and reactivity initiated accidents.
