Book Developments in Marine Corrosion

Download or read book Developments in Marine Corrosion written by S A Campbell and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1998-10-01 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The diversity of subjects involved in marine corrosion and fouling processes are evident in the approaches and techniques described in this book. An improvized understanding of biologically influenced corrosion and fouling processes is essential to the development of better corrosion protection systems, and this book shows new perspectives in our appreciation of these subjects. Equally, powerful microscope imaging, surface spectroscopy and electrochemical techniques have become available and are providing new information on metal surfaces experiencing fouling or microbial corrosion. Examples include confocal laser microscopy, scanning probe microscopy, Fourier Transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electrochemical microscopy and scanning (or vibrating) reference electrode techniques. Advances in knowledge of biocorrosion processes have enabled improvements in corrosion monitoring and protection strategies. Examples include metal or polymer coatings and the use of corrosion inhibitors and biocides. This book aims to provide a contribution to existing literature on biocorrosion in the marine environment.

Book LaQue s Handbook of Marine Corrosion

Download or read book LaQue s Handbook of Marine Corrosion written by David A. Shifler and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2022-07-01 with total page 756 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The new edition of LaQue's classic text on marine corrosion, providing fully updated control engineering practices and applications Extensively updated throughout, the second edition of La Que's Handbook of Marine Corrosion remains the standard single-source reference on the unique nature of seawater as a corrosive environment. Designed to help readers reduce operational and life cycle costs for materials in marine environments, this authoritative resource provides clear guidance on design, materials selection, and implementation of corrosion control engineering practices for materials in atmospheric, immersion, or wetted marine environments. Completely rewritten for the 21st century, this new edition reflects current environmental regulations, best practices, materials, and processes, with special emphasis placed on the engineering, behavior, and practical applications of materials. Divided into three parts, the book first explains the fundamentals of corrosion in marine environments, including atmospheric corrosion, erosion, microbiological corrosion, fatigue, environmental cracking, and cathodic delamination. The second part discusses corrosion control methods and materials selection that can mitigate or eliminate corrosion in different marine environments. The third section provides the reader with specific applications of corrosion engineering to structures, systems, or components that exist in marine environments. This much-needed new edition: Presents a comprehensive and up-to-date account of the science and engineering aspects of marine corrosion Focuses on engineering aspects, descriptive behavior, and practical applications of materials usage in marine environments Addresses the various materials used in marine environments, including metals, polymers, alloys, coatings, and composites Incorporates current regulations, standards, and recommended practices of numerous organizations such as ASTM International, the US Navy, the American Bureau of Shipping, the International Organization for Standardization, and the International Maritime Organization Written in a clear and understandable style, La Que's Handbook of Marine Corrosion, Second Edition is an indispensable resource for engineers and materials scientists in disciplines spanning the naval, maritime, commercial, shipping industries, particularly corrosion engineers, ship designers, naval architects, marine engineers, oceanographers, and other professionals involved with products that operate in marine environments.

Book Corrosion Fatigue of Metals in Marine Environments

Download or read book Corrosion Fatigue of Metals in Marine Environments written by JASKE C.E. and published by Springer. This book was released on 1981-12-01 with total page 263 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book was prepared to document and review the major factors involved in corrosion fatigue of metals in marine environments. This includes both crack initiation and crack growth. Background information was obtained by searching technical literature through eight different sources--(1) Chemical Abstracts, (2) Metals Abstracts, (3) Metals and ceramics Information Center (MCIC), (4) Engineering Index, (5) Copper Data Center, (6) National Technical Information Service, (7) Defense Technical Information Service, and (8) Proceedings of Offshore Technology Conferences. Unpublished and proprietary papers and reports were excluded unless permission was obtained to release the results contained therein. Thus, most of the information was from documents published in the open literature. For convenient use and reference, discussions on corrosion-fatigue behavior are divided into separate chapters dealing with (1) carbon and alloy steels, (2) stainless steels, (3) nickel-base alloys, (4) copper-base alloys, (5) aluminum alloys, and (6) titanium alloys. Representative plots and tabulations of important data and factors influencing them are presented, but exhaustive plots and tabulations of all available data, such as might be found in handbooks, are not included because these are beyond the scope of this review. A general background for corrosion fatigue is presented in Chapter 2, which briefly discusses experimental procedures, general phenomena and mechanisms, variables affecting corrosion of metals in marine environments, and use of fatigue data in design.

Book Marine and Offshore Corrosion

Download or read book Marine and Offshore Corrosion written by Kenneth A Chandler and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-12 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Marine and Offshore Corrosion describes the principles of effective corrosion control treatments in marine environments, with emphasis on economic solutions to corrosion. The book explains chemical or electrochemical reaction of an alloy with its environment leading to corrosion, and mechanical loss of the metal by erosion, abrasion, or wear resulting also in corrosion. A main consideration of erosion control that the engineer should look into is the economic side. Other considerations that he should investigate are the strength of a structure, time for construction, availability of materials, and costs. The book also discusses the marine environment consisting of sea water, temperature fluctuations, dissolved gases, hydrogen sulphide, ammonia, carbon dioxide, electrical conductivity, fouling. The text describes the selection of materials to be used in marine environments, surface preparation of steel before painting, the type of paint, and metallic coatings. Some of the factors in selecting coating systems are: cost and estimated life before the first scheduled maintenance, adhesion properties, moisture tolerance, elasticity, chemical resistance, impact resistance, bacterial resistance. The factors affecting maintenance include environmental conditions, quality of initial protection applied, type of structure, as well as the design and purpose of the structure. The book has been prepared for engineers and designers who are not corrosion specialists but have to deal with marine corrosion problems as part of their day-to-day professional activities. The text will also turn out to be useful for engineers with general interest in structure, building, or machinery maintenance specially those located near coastal areas.
