Download or read book The Correlation of the Accelerated Reading Program on the Fifth Grade Writing Scores written by Janet Wingard and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study was a correlation research design which utilized pre-existing data. The purpose of this study was to examine the correlation between reading and writing. The research was guided b the following question: Is there a statistically significant correlation between the Accelerated reader Program scores and the scores received by fifth grade students on the Alabama Direct Assessment of Writing? The null hypothesis stated that there is not a statistically significant correlation in the scores of fifth grade students on the Alabama Direct Assessment Writing when the Accelerated Reader Program. Data was analyzed using a Pearson-r for two independent sample means. The .05 level of significance was accepted. The instruments used in this study were the Accelerated Reader Program (AR) and the Alabama Direct Assessment of Writing (ADAW) for fifth grade. There were approximately 70 students from the 2007-2008 school years who were taught using the AR program. These students also were examined using the ADAW. The researcher used random sampling to select 20 students from the data. Based on the findings, the null hypothesis was not rejected. So the researcher concluded that there is no correlation between the Accelerated Reader program and Alabama Direct Assessment of Writing. This chapter contains a summary, conclusions from the findings, and recommendations for practice and further research.

Book A Quantitative Study on the Relationship Between Fifth Grade Students Reading and Writing Test Scores

Download or read book A Quantitative Study on the Relationship Between Fifth Grade Students Reading and Writing Test Scores written by Janis R. Scott and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A basic correlational research design was used in this quantitative study to correlate the reading and writing test scores of 47 fifth grade students at a rural public school in southwest Georgia. The instruments used in the study were the 2008 Georgia Grade 5 CRCT Reading and the 2008 Georgie Grade 5 CRCT Writing Assessment. The purpose of this study was to examine the 2008 Georgia Grade 4 CRCT Reading and the 2008 Georgia Grade 5 Writing Assessment to determine whether there is a correlation between fifth grade students’ reading and writing test scores. The research concluded that there is a significant correlation between the Grade 5 CRCT Reading test scores and the Grade 5 CRCT Writing Assessment test scores. This study cannot be generalized to another educational setting. Future research should be conducted to include a larger sample size, various grade levels, and different geographic areas.

Book Accelerated Reader and Its Correlation to Assessment Scores

Download or read book Accelerated Reader and Its Correlation to Assessment Scores written by Melanie A. Fuemmeler and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This study consisted of four 5th grade classrooms in four different elementary schools. Two of the four classrooms were traditional classes where paper and pencil methods were those most utilized for instructional purposes. Of these two classrooms, one teacher used Accelerated Reader extensively and with fidelity and the other did not use the program at all. The other two classrooms were part of the district's FLiP initiative where each student had their own laptop. Of these two classrooms, one teacher extensively used Accelerated Reader and one teacher did not. The purpose was to determine if Accelerated Reader should continue to be funded by the district. This would be determined through how extensively teachers used the program, and how using the program translated to student test scores and reading levels."--[portion of abstract].

Book Accelerated Reader and Its Effects on Fifth Grade Students Reading Comprehension

Download or read book Accelerated Reader and Its Effects on Fifth Grade Students Reading Comprehension written by Jan Nichols and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Schools in the United States have been using the Accelerated Reader (AR) program since the mid-1980s. A search of the literature related to the effectiveness of the AR program revealed that many of the studies were conducted more than a decade ago, and a large number of those studies failed to utilize a control group to provide comparative data. Researchers and educators have examined the use of the AR program, whose parent company is Renaissance Learning, for more than 20 years, yet there is still little definitive data on whether the system positively affects student reading comprehension and motivation to read. This causal-comparative design, in the form of an ex post facto study, examined two groups of fifth-grade students to determine if the addition of AR showed statistically significant effects on their reading comprehension. Data were gathered from both an experimental and a control group; the control group utilized the school system's literacy plan for reading instruction, while the experimental group utilized the literacy plan along with mandatory use of AR. Independent t-tests were used to determine if the treatment (AR) had any effect on reading comprehension by group or by gender. The results from the independent t-tests showed no statistically significant effect for reading method by group and no statistically significant effect for gender by group.

Book International Guide to Student Achievement

Download or read book International Guide to Student Achievement written by John Hattie and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-01-17 with total page 513 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The International Guide to Student Achievement brings together and critically examines the major influences shaping student achievement today. There are many, often competing, claims about how to enhance student achievement, raising the questions of "What works?" and "What works best?" World-renowned bestselling authors, John Hattie and Eric M. Anderman have invited an international group of scholars to write brief, empirically-supported articles that examine predictors of academic achievement across a variety of topics and domains. Rather than telling people what to do in their schools and classrooms, this guide simply provides the first-ever compendium of research that summarizes what is known about the major influences shaping students’ academic achievement around the world. Readers can apply this knowledge base to their own school and classroom settings. The 150+ entries serve as intellectual building blocks to creatively mix into new or existing educational arrangements and aim for quick, easy reference. Chapter authors follow a common format that allows readers to more seamlessly compare and contrast information across entries, guiding readers to apply this knowledge to their own classrooms, their curriculums and teaching strategies, and their teacher training programs.
