Download or read book Companion Studies to the History of Tamil Literature written by K.V. Zvelebil and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2021-12-06 with total page 319 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is a number of problems connected with the study and teaching of any Oriental literature in general and of Tamil literature specifically which have to date been mostly ignored, although they are indispensable for solid knowledge and correct interpretation and understanding of the literature in question. These include problems of authenticity and authorship, of transmission and tradition, writing tools and materials, of relationship of orality to literacy, of Sanskrit to Tamil, the prehistory of Tamil written literature, the numerous texts that have been lost, scholarly lineages and the rediscovery of ancient Tamil literature etc. The book deals with all these problems as well as with some specific Tamil cultural phenomena such as the concept of "threefold Tamil" or the relationship of literature ('marked') to grammar ('marker'), with the derivation of the term "Tamil" and with the history of Tamil literary historiography. It will be indispensable as an introduction to the study of the more than 2000 years of Tamil literary history. By addressing questions which have thus far been almost completely neglected, it has also decisive impact on the interpretative comprehension of Tamil literature and on the teaching of this very rich heritage of verbal art.

Download or read book Respiring Ruin written by Pragadish Kirubakaran, Nikitha Sathi and published by Notion Press. This book was released on 2018-04-23 with total page 165 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tracing a path across an array of human phenomenology, Respiring Ruin is a collection of poems that examine and convey a series of reflections articulating the nature of our existence unabashedly and unapologetically. The intent is to shed some light on the derelict forms of relationships between people and nature. It questions the quality of life we lead with brief appreciation for the simple joys and little pleasures life holds. The core idea is embodied within the book’s title, which is the ambitious communication of an almost cynical, yet awe-inspiring notion that we as humans are biological architectures that are a compromise between fantasy and decadence. Refraining from the usual title-poem caricature, Respiring Ruin is dialogue poetry, where two people explore not just their own but each other’s thoughts, addressing the masculine and feminine perspectives. Hence, it follows a ‘He-She narrative,’ the “He” written by Pragadish Kirubakaran and “She” by Nikitha Sathi. Interspersed within the book are illustrations which accompany every piece, ensuring you, the reader, a literary and visual treat.

Download or read book Contemporary Theatre of India written by Chaman Ahuja and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The present book seeks to provide a generic introduction to the contemporary theatre scenario in different parts of India. Researched and written over a period of nearly a decade, it adopts an approach that may be best termed as quasi-academic and quasi-journalistic. Primarily, it affords understanding as well as interpretation of the trends, experiments and major works; but, in the process, it takes up serious issues for closer scrutiny. Nevertheless, the overall tone and tenor continue to be rather informal throughout. the book was born of interaction with both established and uprising exponents of the theatre arts -- playwrights, directors, performers, designers, critics, etc.; but it purposefully eschews critical or technical jargon. Ultimately, what we get is a phenomenal attempt to build a comprehensive as well as a perceptive overview of the complex and ever-growing dynamics of the contemporary theatres of India as practised in various regions, languages, cultures." -- Back cover.
