Book The Contemplation of Space

Download or read book The Contemplation of Space written by Cometan and published by Astral Publishing. This book was released on 2019-11-27 with total page 39 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Contemplation of Space is the one-hundred and twenty-first instalment in the Little Blue Book Series and comprises the second to the sixth discourses of the Decadoxy, which is itself the tenth disquisition of the Omnidoxy, Astronism’s founding treatise. This publication is divided into five segments, the first of which explores a myriad of concepts regarding space and while the second of which explores the convergences between cosmology, astronomy, and philosophy. Additionally, as part of this publication, the role of The Five Millettarian Characters in the context of Astronism is explored while the fifth and sixth segments focus on the introduction of the Astronic Journal and its derivations and the policymaking schedules and strategies of the Astronist Institution respectively. The Little Blue Book Series was created and first published by Cometan himself as a way to simplify and commercialise the immensity of the two million word length of the Omnidoxy into smaller, more bite-size publications. A successful series from its very first published entry, the Little Blue Book Series has gone on to become a symbol of Astronist commercial literature and a way for Cometan’s words to reach readers of all ages and abilities who remain daunted by the beauty and yet the sheer extensiveness of the Omnidoxy as the longest religious text in history.

Book excerpt: Winner of the 2012 Pulitzer Prize * Poet Laureate of the United States * * A New York Times Notable Book of 2011 and New York Times Book Review Editors' Choice * * A New Yorker, Library Journal and Publishers Weekly Best Book of the Year * New poetry by the award-winning poet Tracy K. Smith, whose "lyric brilliance and political impulses never falter" (Publishers Weekly, starred review) You lie there kicking like a baby, waiting for God himself To lift you past the rungs of your crib. What Would your life say if it could talk? —from "No Fly Zone" With allusions to David Bowie and interplanetary travel, Life on Mars imagines a soundtrack for the universe to accompany the discoveries, failures, and oddities of human existence. In these brilliant new poems, Tracy K. Smith envisions a sci-fi future sucked clean of any real dangers, contemplates the dark matter that keeps people both close and distant, and revisits the kitschy concepts like "love" and "illness" now relegated to the Museum of Obsolescence. These poems reveal the realities of life lived here, on the ground, where a daughter is imprisoned in the basement by her own father, where celebrities and pop stars walk among us, and where the poet herself loses her father, one of the engineers who worked on the Hubble Space Telescope. With this remarkable third collection, Smith establishes herself among the best poets of her generation.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book was written during the global pandemic of 2020, when the gravity of our situation called us, as individuals, to sanity and inner strength. “Sheltering in place,” or “in confinement” as some prefer, we entered into a fierce and strange new world. If we had not actively developed our contemplative side before this, the insistent, benevolent voice of that inner world, so famously avoided in today’s society, now sounded a clarion call. The Art of Contemplation is intended to inspire your own reflections, as I explore the timeless treasure house of contemplation, the reasons we actually need it, and how to work with the blocks that most of us encounter on the way. For contemplation is a journey within, with no beginning and no end, taken from anywhere and everywhere that we find ourselves in life. For the theists among us, our contemplations will organically lead to prayer, just as bud goes to flower and flower goes to seed, which drops to the ground to begin another round of creation. For the nontheists, the inner state of contemplative prayer might be called inner stillness, meditation on truth, or the practice of pure awareness―or even “inner yoga,” as yoga is anything that links us to the Divine. It does not matter what we call it. What does matter is that we, as human beings, evolve in a mutual love affair with the Universe from which we are created. What matters is praise. There is a time to beg for grace to intervene in the sufferings we endure as human beings. As we contemplate our own awareness within the mystery of life, we begin to expand our generosity as vessels of awareness, of awakened consciousness, for our own personal transformation and for the benefit of all beings. Then our inner yoga takes flight. Resting in receptive inner space enables us to rejuvenate and restore, to tap intrinsic healing, intuitive and creative energies, at the level of source water where the river of life flows pristine and we touch the ineffable. The Taoists have a beautiful way of expressing it. Lao Tzu said, “Muddy water, let stand, becomes clear.” Clarity is one of the many gifts of contemplation, and as we build a capacity for the inner journey, a sacred world is revealed in the mirror of the soul.

Download or read book Engaged Emancipation written by Christopher Key Chapple and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 2015-11-04 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A wide-ranging analysis of the Mokṣopāya, the Indian literary classic that teaches through storytelling how to enjoy an active, successful, worldly life in a spiritually enlightened way. In the Mokṣopāya (also known as the Yogavāsiṣṭha), an eleventh-century Sanskrit poetic text, the great Vedic philosopher Vasiṣṭha counsels his young protégé Lord Rāma about the ways of the world through sixty-four stories designed to bring Rāma from ignorance to wisdom. Much beloved, this work reflects the philosophy of Kashmir Śaivism. Precisely because all worldly pursuits are dreamlike and fiction-like, the human soul must first come to an experience of non-dualistic, mind-only metaphysics, and after attaining this wisdom, promote moral activism. Engaged Emancipation is a wide-ranging consideration of this work and the philosophical and spiritual questions it addresses by philosophers, Sanskritists, and scholars of religion, literature, and science. Contributors allow readers to walk with Rāma as his melancholy and angst transform into connectivity, peace, and spiritual equipoise. Christopher Key Chapple is Doshi Professor of Indic and Comparative Theology at Loyola Marymount University. He is the author or editor of many books, including Yoga and the Luminous: Patañjali’s Spiritual Path to Freedom and Reconciling Yogas: Haribhadra’s Collection of Views on Yoga, both also published by SUNY Press. Arindam Chakrabarti is Professor of Philosophy at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. His books include Mahābhārata Now: Narration, Aesthetics, Ethics (coedited with Sibaji Bandyopadhyay).

Book The Contemplative Mind in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning

This book was released on 2017-11-30 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In The Contemplative Mind in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, Patricia Owen-Smith considers how contemplative practices may find a place in higher education. By creating a bridge between contemplative practices and the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL), Owen-Smith brings awareness of contemplative pedagogy to a larger audience of college instructors, while also offering classroom models and outlining the ongoing challenges of both defining these practices and assessing their impact in education. Ultimately, Owen-Smith asserts that such practices have the potential to deepen a student’s development and understanding of the self as a learner, knower, and citizen of the world.

Download or read book Robots in Space written by Roger D. Launius and published by JHU Press. This book was released on 2008-02-11 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 2008 Outstanding Academic Title, Choice Magazine Given the near incomprehensible enormity of the universe, it appears almost inevitable that humankind will one day find a planet that appears to be much like the Earth. This discovery will no doubt reignite the lure of interplanetary travel. Will we be up to the task? And, given our limited resources, biological constraints, and the general hostility of space, what shape should we expect such expeditions to take? In Robots in Space, Roger Launius and Howard McCurdy tackle these seemingly fanciful questions with rigorous scholarship and disciplined imagination, jumping comfortably among the worlds of rocketry, engineering, public policy, and science fantasy to expound upon the possibilities and improbabilities involved in trekking across the Milky Way and beyond. They survey the literature—fictional as well as academic studies; outline the progress of space programs in the United States and other nations; and assess the current state of affairs to offer a conclusion startling only to those who haven't spent time with Asimov, Heinlein, and Clarke: to traverse the cosmos, humans must embrace and entwine themselves with advanced robotic technologies. Their discussion is as entertaining as it is edifying and their assertions are as sound as they are fantastical. Rather than asking us to suspend disbelief, Robots in Space demands that we accept facts as they evolve.

Book The Meaning of Contemplation for Social Qualitative Research

Download or read book The Meaning of Contemplation for Social Qualitative Research written by Krzysztof T. Konecki and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-12-30 with total page 173 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers an account of contemplative reflection in qualitative social research. Focusing on the experiences of the researcher – including sensory and emotional experiences – and the work of the mind in the investigative process, it considers the means by which the researcher’s basic assumptions can be analyzed and bracketed, so as to shed light on the process by which knowledge is produced. Through an exploration of the methods of meditation, auto-observation and self-reports, epoché, "contemplative memo-ing," and the contemplative diary, the author explores the essential role of subjectivity in qualitative research, providing inspiration for more mindful research. As such, it will appeal to scholars of sociology, anthropology, and geography with interests in phenomenology, research methods, and the role of the mind in the research process.
