Download or read book Empowerment of the Catholic Laity in the Nigerian Political Situation written by Peter Chidi Okuma and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2009 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In light of this research work, the Vatican II Council remains a landmark, and its document Apostolicam Actuositatem (what we decided to call a 'Text of witness of actions' for the Catholic Laity), the Decree on the Apostolate of the Laity, inter alia Lumen gentium and Gaudium et spes, that border on the mission of the Catholic Laity in the human society, is a great achievement. After the Vatican II Council the Church saw the need to enhance and harness the witnessing message of the Council for the Catholic Laity mission in the Church and in the world. In the light of the foregoing this work is part of these efforts. We developed a 'hermeneutical model' via the political theology of Johann Baptist Metz in the light of the Vatican II Council message that becomes a challenge for concrete action of the Nigerian Catholic Laity in the existential socio-political situation of Nigeria.

This work analyzed the violent conflicts from anthropological, behavioral, politico-philosophical, and theological perspectives, and makes a demand on humanity to save herself through proper education and dialogue with all men and religions.
Download or read book THE ECUMENICAL IMPERATIVE AND FORMATION OF ECUMENICAL CONSCIOUSNESS AMONG PASTORAL WORKERS written by SEBASTIAN CHUKWUMA ANOKWULU and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2013-09 with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The idea of the Church as the instrument of unity had existed before Second Vatican Council; but the Council made the search for unity explicitly an imperative. From the Second Vatican Council emerged a more emphatic vision of the mission of the Church to the world in which ecumenism is no longer an option but an imperative. From the time of the Council onward, every Christian should positively respond to God's question to Cain: "Where is your brother?" (Gen. 4: 9). The ecumenical imperative is primarily the responsibility of pastoral workers. The book surveys in epochs the historical changes that has occurred in the Church up to Vatican II; reviews reception along the ages of the Church pointing to the uniqueness of Vatican II; and gives through biblical exegesis of 'conversion' a fresh understanding that will help pastoral workers to be ever conscious and ready to serve as Church's instrument of unity wherever they are. This book re-awakens the spirit of the Decree on Ecumenism (Unitatis Redintegratio), offering it to be properly received by all who pray with Christ for unity (Jn 17:21). It proposes pastoral suggestions on the practice of Ecumenism.
Download or read book The Church as a voice of the Poor in the light of the Pact of the Catacombs of 1965 Domitilla written by Leonard Oshiokhamele Anetekhai and published by Cuvillier Verlag. This book was released on 2021-04-26 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The stance of 40 Bishops who put pen on paper to dedicate their lives and work for the Poor is in our today’s world an example worth emulating and promoting. To live amid plenty and not feel the pains, misery, and above all, the anger in the eyes of the Poor is a grave sin that individuals, societies and organisations with all pleasure are willing to embrace. Often, the question is raised: Who are the Poor and the answer therein, this piece of research work tries to articulate. When humans created in God’s image are left without essential assistance to ‘lick their wounds’ as Lazarus did, their rights trampled upon, their voices silenced, and even their deserved wages barely or not paid, then we speak of the Poor. In this group of persons, the Poor, the Bishops of the Catacomb Pack of 1965 (Domitilla) reminds Individuals, societies, organisations, and indeed the Church and her leaders to see the necessity to align human, social and pastoral life in the task of caring for the Poor.

Download or read book The Laity as Participants in the Mission of the Church written by Humphrey C. Anameje and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2017-06-05 with total page 530 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The church is made up of both the clergy and the laity. And for it to properly fulfill the mission for which it was instituted by Christ, all its members, each according to his or her God-given gift, must contribute both to the upbuilding of the church and to its mission. On the part of the laity, their active participation in the general mission of the church ad intra and ad extra has been a great challenge in the life and practice of the church throughout its history. The Second Vatican Council, in its spirit of aggiornamento, makes some positive difference. This work critically examines the conciliar documents, some relevant postconciliar documents, and theological reflection of some theologians. And finally, it proffers solutions that will enhance the active participation of the laity in the mission of the church in general and the church in Southeast Nigeria in particular.

Download or read book Law Religion and Human Flourishing in Africa written by M. Christian Green and published by AFRICAN SUN MeDIA. This book was released on 2019-05-19 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A shared interest of law and religion is the advancement of human flourishing, yet there is no common understanding of what it means for humans to flourish and the means by which to attain a flourishing life. The concept of human flourishing is especially important for Africa, where community and national development compete with forces of conflict and scarce resources. In the broadest sense, the concept of human flourishing focuses our attention on having a comprehensively good or worthwhile life, but various religious and legal traditions suggest different norms for measuring the quality of life and designing the institutional structures that could best facilitate and preserve it.

Download or read book Dominic Ignatius Ekandem 1917 1995 written by Michael I. Edem CM and published by Book Venture Publishing LLC. This book was released on 2018-09-30 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A phenomenon seldom recognized in the media of Western Europe and North America is the extraordinary growth of the Catholic Church of South America and sub-Saharan Africa during the last five decades, and nowhere more than in Nigeria. A key figure in that country and in that growth, up to his death in 1995, was Cardinal Ekandem, the first Anglophone West-African bishop - the first of many - and an outstanding churchman of the 20th Century. Fr. Michael Edem’s scholarly biography of the Cardinal is a fascinating account of a journey from life in a traditional African village to the consistory of cardinals of the Catholic Church in Rome. It will be of enormous interest to a wider public for the author’s personal knowledge of the cardinal and of the Efik/Ibibio culture in which they both grew up.
