Book Kings Conquerors Psychopaths

Download or read book Kings Conquerors Psychopaths written by Joseph N. Abraham and published by University of Louisiana. This book was released on 2018 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Right wing populists increasingly draw attention around the globe, but the attention is misdirected. The real problem is not the authoritarian, but the authoritarian personalities who follow him. If people do not blindly follow and obey the despot, he is irrelevant. Why do we attach ourselves to demagogues and mountebanks? Why do we defend even their most obvious hypocrisies and lies? The answer is found in the history of civilization. For the past 10,000 years, those who disagreed with the king or his nobles risked ruin and death. But that is only part of the answer. The other part is that, despite our romantic traditions, kings and conquerors were vicious criminals. They represent the most evil psychopaths, narcissists, and sadists in the history of humanity. As author Jon Ronson has suggested: "I've always believed society to be a fundamentally rational thing, but what if it wasn't? . . . What if it was built on insanity?"

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of essays offers some thoughts on alterity/otherness in anthropological praxis viewed through the prism of the Latin American reality. It is neither an exhaustive treatment of the problem of Otherness in anthropological theory nor a definitive analysis of the various forms of represented, practiced, and contested alterities in Latin American history. Rather, the authors have been brought together by several common concerns. The first is an interest in exploring and understanding some of the ways in which Otherness structures social relations at the everyday as well as the national levels. The second is a theoretical and methodological question of how the perspective which foregrounds the Other at the expense of the Self might make the anthropological inquiry more effective and emancipatory. Thirdly, the authors are interested in how they can, as researchers, teachers, and citizens, help overcome cleavages which group identities constantly produce in the body of humanity. The Others that the authors of this book explore include indigenous peoples, mestizos, African slaves, women, insurgent peasants, as well as hybrid groups (re-)claiming a new identity. While each of the eight authors focuses on social phenomena from different time periods and parts of Latin America, they all share as their common denominator the Spanish colonization of the continent which set off a series of events whose consequences eventually exceeded the wildest fantasies of the boldest thinkers of these times. The authors particularly focus on the visual representation and performance of alterity, but also give room to some non-visual ways in which Otherness is established and subverted. Inevitably, this volume presents a diverse selection of contributions which nevertheless share some common problems, concerns and hopes, which in their totality provide a complex picture of Otherness in everyday life in historical and contemporary Latin America.

Download or read book If We Only Knew written by Wayne Kniffen and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2022-08-29 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Remaining ignorant about something means you don’t have to worry about it, feel responsible for it, or get upset by it. That may be true in some instances, but not when it comes to knowing the truth about God’s word. In fact, being ignorant about your new-creation life that you have in Christ can be very costly. This is the main reason so many believers are living defeated lives. One of the most important questions any believer in Christ should ask themselves is this: What is it that I don’t know that I don’t know? The author contends that if we say that we believe right but we are behaving wrong, we are living in deception. When we start believing right, especially when it comes to who we are in Christ, we will start behaving right. He also emphasizes that we don’t do good things to become who we will be in Christ. We do the right things because of who we already are in Christ.

Book excerpt: As a newly planted seed from the moment we exit the womb, our self-esteem is being cultivated and nourished. Entrusted into the hands of the individuals who will care for, encourage, sustain, and develop it until the day we can make our own choices and decisions. Caretakers, who may be wounded and hurt individuals, pass on to another generation the nourishment they received and what they know to be truth. How we feel about ourselves affects our very essence. Low self-esteem has been linked to addictions, promiscuity, anxiety, eating disorders, substance abuse, and violence. It assassinates an individuals self-worth, dreams, ideas, and potential. Low self-esteem issues can be conquered and every individual can reach a comfortable median where they feel they can achieve or accomplish anything within the confines of their talents and abilities. The most important goal is for someone who suffers with low self-esteem issues to reinforce within themselves that without a doubt he or she is exactly who God says they are.

Book Segregation in Language Education

Download or read book Segregation in Language Education written by Ann Wand and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-10-18 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book sets out to try to understand why segregated schooling still exists, especially in northern Italy in South Tyrol where they practice ‘separate but equal’ education. Supported by the UN, the Austrian and Italian governments, the province is considered a ‘peace model’ due to its consociational approach to dealing with the region’s Nazi and Fascist past, which has led to a ‘negative peace’. The autonomy statutes, which derived from this ‘peace’, resulted in an education system that is linguistically segregated for the purposes of protecting South Tyrol’s ethnolinguistic minorities. Broken into two parts, the book begins with the background history of the province, before describing the region’s geographical layout, demographics, local identity, and its three-part schooling system. By examining responses to South Tyrol’s education system, and its impact on local group dynamics, this book explores the implications that segregated schooling may have on second language acquisition. This case study will be of interest to students and scholars of Italian studies, anthropology, linguistic ethnography, sociolinguistics, and second language education.

Book The Crowd The Psychology of Revolution

Download or read book The Crowd The Psychology of Revolution written by Gustave Le Bon and published by DigiCat. This book was released on 2023-12-13 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edition brings to you Le Bon's two most celebrated works, "The Crowd: A Study of the Popular Mind" and "The Psychology of Revolution", which made a breakthrough in what is now known as crowd psychology. Le Bon theorised about a new entity, "psychological crowd", which emerges from incorporating the assembled population not only forms a new body but also creates a collective "unconsciousness". As a group of people gather together and coalesces to form a crowd, there is a "magnetic influence given out by the crowd" that transmutes every individual's behaviour until it becomes governed by the "group mind". Gustave Le Bon was a French polymath whose areas of interest included anthropology, psychology, sociology, medicine, invention, and physics. Ignored or maligned by sections of the French academic and scientific establishment during his life due to his politically conservative and reactionary views, Le Bon was critical of democracy and socialism. Le Bon's works were influential to such disparate figures as Theodore Roosevelt and Benito Mussolini, Sigmund Freud and José Ortega y Gasset, Adolf Hitler and Vladimir Lenin.

Book The Miracles of Right Thought

Download or read book The Miracles of Right Thought written by Orison Swett Marden and published by DigiCat. This book was released on 2022-11-13 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In words of the author this book teaches us the importance of having the 'right' thoughts about ourselves. It teaches that we should strangle every idea of deficiency, imperfection, or inferiority, and however much our apparent conditions of discord, weaknesses, poverty, and ill-health may seem to contradict, cling tenaciously to our vision of perfection. A positive outlook certainly goes a long way in overcoming fear and being happy. Spread over fifteen chapters and a conversational way of writing, it would surely interest those who are looking for a well-rounded, successful life. Dr. Orison Swett Marden (1848-1924) was an American inspirational author who wrote about achieving success in life and founded SUCCESS magazine in 1897. He is often considered as the father of the modern-day inspirational talks and writings and his words make sense even to this day. In his books he discussed the common-sense principles and virtues that make for a well-rounded, successful life. Excerpt: "What we yearn for, earnestly desire and strive to bring about, tends to become a reality. Our ideals are the foreshadowing outlines of realities behind them—the substance of the things hoped for."
