Book The Conformal Transformation of an Airfoil Into a Straight Line and Its Application to the Inverse Problem of Airfoil Theory

Download or read book The Conformal Transformation of an Airfoil Into a Straight Line and Its Application to the Inverse Problem of Airfoil Theory written by William Mutterperl and published by . This book was released on 1944 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Summary: A method of conformal transformation is developed that maps an airfoil into a straight line, the line being chosen as the extended chord line of the airfoil. The mapping is accomplished by operating directly with the airfoil ordinates. The absence of any preliminary transformation is found to shorten the work substantially over that of previous methods. Use is made of the superposition of solutions to obtain a rigorous counterpart of the approximate methods of thin-airfoil theory. The method is applied to the solution of the direct and inverse problems for arbitrary airfoils and pressure distributions. Numerical examples are given. Applications to more general types of regions, in particular to biplanes and to cascades of airfoils, are indicated.

Book Velocity Distributions on Arbitrary Airfoils in Closed Tunnels by Conformal Mapping

Download or read book Velocity Distributions on Arbitrary Airfoils in Closed Tunnels by Conformal Mapping written by H. E. Moses and published by . This book was released on 1949 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Conformal mapping methods are applied to the calculation of the effect of channel (two-dimensional tunnel) walls on the idea flow past arbitrary airfoils situated anywhere within the channel. The walls of the channel need not be plane but may have any shape. The results are compared in specific cases with those obtained by two approximate methods: the first of which is a first-order treatment using image vortices and doublets, and the second is a higher-order correction developed by Goldstein.

Book A Modification to Thin airfoil section Theory Applicable to Arbitrary Airfoil Sections to Account for the Effects of Thickness on the Lift Distribution

Download or read book A Modification to Thin airfoil section Theory Applicable to Arbitrary Airfoil Sections to Account for the Effects of Thickness on the Lift Distribution written by David Graham and published by . This book was released on 1951 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The manner in which the effects of thickness on the lift distribution are calculated in NACA Report 833, 1945, has been modified to increase the accuracy of the calculation of the load distribution, due to camber and angle of attack, on airfoil sections of arbitrary camber and thickness. Comparison of theoretical and experimental distributions are presented. The results show that the modification improves the predictions of lift distributions for both angle of attack and camber.

Book Isolated and Cascade Airfoils with Prescribed Velocity Distribution

Download or read book Isolated and Cascade Airfoils with Prescribed Velocity Distribution written by John M. Riebs and published by . This book was released on 1947 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An exact solution of the problem of designing an airfoil with a prescribed velocity distribution on the suction surface in a given uniform flow of an incompressible perfect liquid is obtained by replacing the boundary of the airfoil by vortices. By this device, a method of solution is developed, which is applicable both to isolated airfoils and to airfoils in cascade. The conformal transformation of the designed airfoil into a circle can then be obtained and the velocity distribution at any angle of attack computed. Numerical illustrations of the method are given for the airfoil in cascade.

Book Turbulent Boundary layer Temperature Recovery Factors in Two dimensional Supersonic Flow

Download or read book Turbulent Boundary layer Temperature Recovery Factors in Two dimensional Supersonic Flow written by Maurice Tucker and published by . This book was released on 1951 with total page 686 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An analytical method is presented for obtaining turbulent temperature recovery factors for a thermally insulated surface in supersonic flow. The method is an extension of Squire's analysis for incompressible flow. The boundary layer velocity profile is represented by a power law and a similarity is postulated for squared-velocity the static-temperature-difference profiles.
