Book excerpt: Nominated for the Anthony and Macavity Award Evil doesn’t always live next door. Sometimes it lives right in your own home. Eve Moran has always wanted “things,” her powers of seduction impossible to resist for those who come in contact with her toxic allure. And over the course of her life, she has proven both inventive and tenacious in getting and keeping whatever such things catch her eye, whether they are jewelry, money, or men. Eve lies, steals, cheats, swindles, and is even willing to take a life, paying little heed to the cost of her actions on those who love her and depend on her. Her daughter, Christine, compelled by love, dependency, and circumstance, is caught up in her mother’s deceptions, unwilling to accept the viciousness that runs in her family’s blood. It’s only when Christine’s three-year old brother, Ryan, begins to prove useful to her mother, and Christine sees a horrific pattern repeating itself, that she finds the courage and means to bring an end to Eve’s tyranny. Concrete Angel centers around a family torn apart by a mother straight out of “Mommie Dearest”, and her resilient young daughter who discovers that survival can mean fighting the closest evil imaginable.

Ferguson to solve the case. C.T. learns the murdered man was popular with a wide range of church and community members. Someone clearly hated him, however . . . and the killer focuses on C.T. When he uncovers questionable connections in the priest’s history—ranging from local gangs all the way to City Hall—C.T. wonders why so many people might want a man of the cloth dead. Can C.T. identify the killer before his body is the next to turn up? Concrete Angels is the 14th gripping novel in the C.T. Ferguson crime fiction series. Book The Spiritual Lives of Bereaved Parents

Download or read book The Spiritual Lives of Bereaved Parents written by Dennis Klass and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-11-12 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes how parents lose, find, or relocate spiritual anchors after the death of their child. It describes how ordinary people reconstruct their lives after their foundations have shifted, and how they make sense of their world after one of their centers of meaning has been removed. Klass grounds his descriptions of spirituality in his scholarly study of comparative religions, and in his two decades studying the lives of bereaved parents. He argues that continuing bonds with their dead children can give parents a new transcendent reality. Deceased children, like saints or bodhisattvas, can offer a bridge between the profane and sacred worlds, support parents as they find meaning in a world made forever poorer, and bind together a community adequate to parents' grief. The book reports Klass's clinical practice and his work as advisor to a bereaved parents self-help support group.

Book excerpt: Second Life claims to be a virtual sphere which attempts to depict a true public space distinct from the physical public spaces increasingly regulated by large corporations. However these virtual social hubs ironically mirror real world locations, and while they encourage users to indulge in a secondary existence, also serve as a reminder of something that present day real world cities are beginning to overlook. -Condensed from the introduction.

Book The Shadow of the Hawk

Download or read book The Shadow of the Hawk written by Mack Mangham and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2002 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A vortex of evil, passion, suspense and beautiful writing. Spanning three generations, four continents and two world wars, The Shadow of the Hawk brings together Kathleen and Hawk, each from different generations, backgrounds and outlooks. Through his naiveté and her patience and wisdom, they meet, not in his world, not in hers, but in a place almost mystical, unreal. Around them revolve: Cope the moonshiner, evil incarnate; Toad, nobility personified; Miss Jesse, on the edge of madness; Jonathan and Judilon, Kathleen's children, both older than their mother's lover; Adam and Ruth, a frightened black couple stranded in an isolated white settlement in 1949; Robert and Raven Tallchief, the Indians who watch with lust which moves into unfortunate action; and 7, a sturdy man who tries to stop madness in two different worlds at one time. In a pond on the mountain above them floats a body stabbed many times, and someone unknown is making cyanide that will eventually take its toll. Faustine and Logan form the strangest love affair in all recorded literature, bringing about the death of a hidden community. Every page drives you relentlessly onward with another question that must be answered. This book is unstoppable.

Book The First Time I Encountered My Guardian Angel

Download or read book The First Time I Encountered My Guardian Angel written by Michelle Napier Colombo and published by . This book was released on 2020-01-22 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a true story of my life and how I was born with a gift from God. It wasn't until later I was awakened that I realized I had these gifts. I didn't know anyone like me. I knew that I had always had someone talking in my right ear since the age of six. I would call it my intuition. I knew I was different because I was told things that were going to happen before they happened and had dreams of things before they happened. It was later on that I found out that I was an earth angel. And in fact, that it was my guardian angel who talked to me and guided me. And as you read in the book, the events that had happened were always validated. In the book, I talked about a miracle resurrection of my dog, which was also a gift from God, an out-of-body experience, and how my spirit travelled to a different place. I see angels and talk with angels. My guardian angel, who you will be reading about, who we refer to as Mama Angel, has guided me throughout my life along with the other angels, and that will be coming out in my next book called Concrete Angel where there will be more stories of miracles and healings, where I can tell you how to connect with your guardian angel and other angels and signs to look for when your guardian angel is near. In this book, I also talked about a high priest who came after me and knew who I was and what it took to defeat him. I had many challenges in the early part of my life. As I got older, my gift got stronger. My awakening didn't happen until I was forty-eight. You will read about many more miracles that occurred in this book.

Book As Quiet as a Mouse

Download or read book As Quiet as a Mouse written by Molly Williams and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2009-10 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As Quiet as a Mouse is the story of the author's struggles with bipolar disorder and the events from her childhood that contributed to the illness. Her psychiatrist encouraged her to write journals about her childhood and was amazed, after reading them, that she had not committed suicide by the time she was fourteen-years-old. Writing the journals was an emotionally difficult task for her. As she wrote about the things that happened to her, she discovered that there were other incidents that had taken place in her life that were buried deep, things that she really didn't want to remember. Her story begins when she is first raped at the age of five. Like most children who are raped, and who are fortunate enough to survive the attack, she never told anyone what had happened to her because she feared their rejection. Throughout her childhood and her teen years, she suffered a great deal of unspeakable attacks, all of which formed the basis for her eventual struggle with bipolar disorder. She is telling her story now with the hope of helping other children who may be experiencing what she did.

Book excerpt: The title of the book means a contrast in life based on the mixed genre. It portrays a little about hatred, anger, pain, love, and happiness. The main idea of writing this is to let people understand what ones emotion can be and the pain one can feel. Life does not focus on just one thing; it is a wide range that you have to keep your eyes on. One day youre happy, and the next you may find yourself crying a river. Every emotion that you can think of is being written in this book. This book tells you clearly almost every stage in life. It could even be said that you will understand deeper the life of a different person from these writings. No one would expect a girl to start writing poetry at such a young age. After a certain period, the author decided to write a book, which came up to the sixth book. Every book has its own specialty, and this is the very first book that is going to be introduced to the world. This book is suitable for all ages and genders.
