Book Computers Schools and Students

Download or read book Computers Schools and Students written by Cedric Cullingford and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-05-23 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How have schools been affected by the introduction of computer technology, and has it changed the school life and experience of students? This book uses research from both large and small secondary schools, including those specializing in technology and those with higher numbers of pupils with special needs, to look at the results of all the political initiatives and investment in ICT. The authors found that the ambitious expectations fell short of reality. Their research into the reasons for this shortfall can help teachers understand and develop ways to make the best use of computers in their schools. It is equally informative for educational researchers and policy-makers.

Book Oh What a Web We Weave

Download or read book Oh What a Web We Weave written by Tim Hillman and published by Avocus Publishing. This book was released on 1997-11 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Examines the efforts of several secondary schools to bring today's computer technology into the school. Each section focuses on the story of one school's efforts and ends with a discussion of the impact of computer technology on that school's students and of the school's plans for its uses in the future. The resulting accounts, by administrators, faculty and students, are at once instructive and inventive, wry and funny. Included are chapters on how one school used technology to create an effective intranet, how an instructor built a web site with the help of a student (who became the teacher), and how an administrator and department chair collaborated to develop a hyper-text site that cross-indexed their school's curriculum. This book humanizes the computer experience and brings it into scale with other tools used in the secondary school environment, its potential tempered by recognition of its limitations.

Book Cross National Policies and Practices on Computers in Education

This book was released on 2007-08-19 with total page 464 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents some of the results from the second stage of lEA's study of Computers in Education (CompEd). lEA, the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement, conducts international comparative studies focussing on educational achievement, practices, and policies in various countries and education systems around the world. It has a Secretariat located in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. lEA studies have reported on a wide range of topics, each contributing to a deeper understanding of educational processes. The CompEd study is a project that sheds light on the way computers have been introduced in education and on how they are being used across the world today. The study proceeded in two stages with data collected for stage 1 in 1989 and for stage 2 in 1992. Results from both stages have been published in a variety of publications. This book reports about a special part of the study. Student achievement and school processes come into being in the context of the structure and the policies of national (or regional) education systems. The variety found in the CompEd results led us to ask how much might be explained by differences in these national or regional contexts. That is the reason the CompEd study took the initiative to invite the countries participating in the study, as well as some other countries that have had interesting developments in the domain of educational computers, to write a chapter describing their policies and practices regarding computers in education.
