Book CHILD MARRIAGE IN NIGERIA THE HEALTH HAZARDS AND SOCIO LEGAL IMPLICATIONS

Download or read book CHILD MARRIAGE IN NIGERIA THE HEALTH HAZARDS AND SOCIO LEGAL IMPLICATIONS written by Armstrong Ukwuoma and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2013-09-21 with total page 269 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book informs that the practice of child marriage is harmful and inimical to the health, education, social wellbeing, socio-economic empowerment, and the fundamental rights of the child. It shows the conflicts between the practice and the public policy commitments and efforts of the government of Nigeria on the right to health, education, human/fundamental rights, the MDGs, the Nigeria Vision 20:2020, the goals of NEPAD and the transformation of Nigeria. It exposes the unsustainable arguments seeking to justify child marriage. This book calls on all individuals, legal persons, state and non-state actors and development partners including YOU to join and support the advocacy to end child marriage in Nigeria. For those who are yet to appreciate the girl-child as a person of great value like the male counterpart, this book is here to change such orientation.

Book Comparative and Decolonial Studies in Philosophy of Education

Download or read book Comparative and Decolonial Studies in Philosophy of Education written by David G. Hebert and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-03-18 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces the educational philosophies of notable African and Asian thinkers who tend to be little recognized in Europe and North America. It offers specific resources for diversification of higher education curricula. The book expands the philosophy of education, in clear language, to include ideas of major non-western educational thinkers who are little discussed in previous publications. It includes critical analysis of non-western concepts and consideration of their relevance to schools worldwide. The book features discussions of how the work of Tagore and postcolonial thinkers offers diverse visions that increasingly inspire a decolonizing approach to education. This book offers a unique emphasis on how a decolonized philosophy of education can especially enable a rethinking of approaches to education in arts and humanities subjects.

Book Parents Involvement in Education

Download or read book Parents Involvement in Education written by Obiefuna J. Onwughalu and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2011-07-16 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Igbo community in Chicago is a newer immigrant community, compared to the German, Polish, Italian, or Irish communities. Just as for these older immigrant communities, education is essential for Igbo immigrants who have come to start a new life in the United States. Adapting well and thriving in the new environment requires immigrants to tread the path of education. The number of Igbo children and other such immigrants is increasing. The way they are educated is importantnot only to the individual child, but also to society. Igbo children are enrolled in both public and private schools in the Chicago metropolitan area. Ka umu anyi wee karia anyi (So that our children will be more successful than us) is one of the many reasons Igbo families in Chicago are involved in the education of their children. Education of children occurs in the home, the school, and the community. This study seeks to understand the nature of parental engagement of Igbo families in Chicago in the education of their children. Not all immigrants are the same. Knowing about Igbo experiences will enable scholars and educators to recognize both similarities with and differences from other immigrant communities. It is immaterial whether their kind of involvement fits the prescribed or standardized form of parental involvement in the literature or in practice elsewhere. The crucial question is, given their circumstances, are Igbo parents perceptions and practices of parental involvement promoting the education of their children in Chicago?

Book Nigerian Languages Literatures Culture and Reforms

Download or read book Nigerian Languages Literatures Culture and Reforms written by Ozo-mekuri Ndimele and published by African Books Collective. This book was released on 2016-04-30 with total page 728 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The papers in this volume were selected from the Silver Jubilee edition of the Annual Conference of the Linguistic Association of Nigerian (LAN) which was held at the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC), Abuja, Nigeria. The Silver Jubilee edition is dedicated to the father of Nigerian Linguistics, Professor Emeritus Ayo Bamgbose. Professor Emeritus Bamgbose was the first indigenous Professor of Linguistics in Nigeria, and the first black African to teach linguistics in any known university south of the Sahara. He was there from the very beginning, and together with co-operation of people such as the late Professor Kay Williamson, he nurtured Nigerian linguistics. He is not just a foremost Nigerian linguist, but also a most famous, respected, celebrated, distinguished, and cherished African linguist of all times. To be candid, Nigerian linguistics is synonymous with Professor Emeritus Bamgbose. In 58 well-written chapters by experts in their fields, the book covers aspects of Nigerian languages, linguistics, literatures and culture. The papers have not been categorized into sections; rather they flow, hence there is some overlapping in the arrangement. The book is an essential resource for all who are interested to learn about current trends in the study of languages, linguistics and related subject-matters in Nigeria.

Book Gender Responsive Budgeting in Practice

Download or read book Gender Responsive Budgeting in Practice written by Bola Akanji and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2022-03-30 with total page 411 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the twenty-first century, gender-responsive budgeting (GRB) has emerged as a development tool that explores if and how gender equality goals and targets are being effectively supported through government funding. Gender-Responsive Budgeting in Practice: Lessons from Nigeria and Selected Developing Countries argues that, although justified by the high costs of gender inequality to economic growth and development, the use of GRB as a tool to achieve global and regional gender equality goals has seen little progress in the twenty-first century, especially in developing countries. Through analyses of government budgets and the budgeting process, and gender equality outcomes in Nigeria and the selected countries from 2000 to 2020, the contributors show that GRB has failed to gain traction or thrive in developing countries. Using these analyses, the contributors identify critical success factors that are missing in policy-making and planning in the developing world and must be integrated in order to further facilitate inclusive growth and sustainable development.

Book The World of Science Education

Download or read book The World of Science Education written by Femi S. Otulaja and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-09-12 with total page 10 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Each volume in the 7-volume series The World of Science Education reviews research in a key region of the world. These regions include North America, South and Latin America, Asia, Australia and New Zealand, Europe and Israel, North Africa and the Middle East, and Sub-Saharan Africa. The focus of this Handbook is on research in science education in mostly former British colonies in Sub-Saharan Africa and the scholarship that most closely support this program. The reviews of the research situate what has been accomplished within a given field in Sub-Saharan Africa rather than an international context. The purpose therefore is to articulate and exhibit regional networks and trends that produced specific forms of science education. The thrust lies in identifying the roots of research programs and sketching trajectories – focusing the changing façade of problems and solutions within regional contexts. The approach allows readers to review what has been done and accomplished, what is missing and what might be done next.
