Book excerpt: Excerpt from Effects of Gasoline Removal on the Heating Value of Natural Gas In the hope that this uncertainty may be removed the Bureau of Mines has made a comprehensive investigation of the problem through its petroleum station at Bartlesville, Okla. The natural gas examined included gas being treated at gasoline plants in many different fields, not only dry gas treated by absorption, but also rich casing-head gas treated by this method, in order that defi nite information might be available as to the effect of recovering gasoline from natural gas of varying richness and from different localities. The results of the investigation are presented in this report. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Waste and Correct Use of Natural Gas in the Home Much has been said by the Bureau of Mines and by others about the criminal waste of natural gas that is taking place in our gas fields. Natural gas, one of the most valuable mineral assets of the country, has been permitted to dissipate in such a manner that the public has derived relatively small value from it. In recent years the public has demanded that efforts be made to minimize this waste. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Energy Systems

Download or read book Energy Systems written by Nick Jenkins and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 2020-02 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern societies require energy systems to provide energy for cooking, heating, transport, and materials processing, as well as for electricity generation. Energy systems include the primary fuel, its conversion, and transport to the point of use. In many cases this primary fuel is still a fossil fuel, a one-use resource derived from a finite supply within our planet, causing considerable damage to the environment. After 300 years of increasing reliance on fossil fuels, particularly coal, it is becoming ever clearer that the present energy systems need to change. In this Very Short Introduction Nick Jenkins explores our historic investment in the exploitation of fossil energy resources and their current importance, and discusses the implications of our increasing rate of energy use. He considers the widespread acceptance by scientists and policy makers that our energy systems must reduce emissions of CO2 and other greenhouse gases, and looks forward to the radical changes in fuel technology that will be necessary to continue to provide energy supplies in a sustainable manner, and extend access across the developing world. Considering the impact of changing to an environmentally benign and low-carbon energy system, Jenkins also looks at future low-carbon energy systems which would use electricity from a variety of renewable energy sources, as well as the role of nuclear power in our energy use. ABOUT THE SERIES: The Very Short Introductions series from Oxford University Press contains hundreds of titles in almost every subject area. These pocket-sized books are the perfect way to get ahead in a new subject quickly. Our expert authors combine facts, analysis, perspective, new ideas, and enthusiasm to make interesting and challenging topics highly readable.

Book The Analysis of Fuel Gas Water and Lubricants Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Analysis of Fuel Gas Water and Lubricants Classic Reprint written by Samuel Wilson Parr and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-06 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Analysis of Fuel, Gas, Water and Lubricants The present edition has been expanded somewhat to admit of its being used as a text by students in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering in their Junior year. It is believed that the added material will still leave the work well adapted to the chemical status of students in Mechanical Engineering. For such students it is well to begin with the topic of Boiler Waters, since this serves as an excellent medium for reviving their elementary chemistry. For such students it will be found desirable also to devote two or three periods to a review of such topics as nomenclature, especially that relating to acids, bases and salts, also valence, reactions, solubilities, and a simplified arrangement of the periodic table which will set forth these properties for about 16 or 18 of the more common elements. This will include practically all of the chemical considerations likely to be met with in the study of boiler waters. It will have the further advantage of connecting many chemical facts with a topic of immediate interest to the engineer, and in such a manner as incidentally to advance him materially in the matter of his chemical information. The author is under special obligation to Floyd B. Hobart for his very efficient help in preparing the manuscript for the printer. He wishes also to express his appreciation for helpful suggestions and careful reading of the text by Dr. T. E. Layng and Dr. M. J. Bradley, also to Dr. R. E. Greenfield for reviewing the text on Boiler Waters and to J. M. Lindgren for helpful suggestions on methods for fuels and oils. Criticisms and suggestions from users will be especially welcome.
