Book An Introductory Guide to EC Competition Law and Practice

Download or read book An Introductory Guide to EC Competition Law and Practice written by Valentine Korah and published by Hart Publishing. This book was released on 2007-10-01 with total page 516 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the ninth edition of Professor Korah's widely respected "Yellow Book" on EC competition law and practice. For many years used by both practising lawyers and law students as well as officials, this book has kept pace with the rapid development of the subject. Its description of economic theory and the policy considerations which underpin the law and its enforcement are even more important in the era of modernisation, when the enforcement of competition law has become decentralised to the Member States and when new Member States have recently become subject to EC competition law. The book addresses questions to which there is no clear answer, and is used by experts as well as by those less familiar with the subject. Its analysis and trenchant comment on the legislation, case law and policies have had some influence on the development of the law, a fact acknowledged by many experts in the subject. Despite the complexity of the topic this remains a lucid and readable overview which is ideal for newcomers to the subject.

Book An Introduction to Competition Law

Download or read book An Introduction to Competition Law written by Angus C Johnston and published by Hart Publishing. This book was released on 2006-06-30 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Competition law is a subject of central importance. An accessible introduction to this legal field is thus indispensable for students and practitioners alike. This book is intended to serve as a first acquaintance with competition law and is written in particular for students who intend to study a foundation course in competition law. The current competition law in the UK consists of two main levels: EC competition law and UK competition law. In this introduction both levels are covered, along with an abbreviated introduction to the EC rules on state aids. An important function of this book is to provide an insight into the combined system of UK and EC competition law. Therefore, for the three main subjects (the prohibition of cartels, the prohibition of the abuse of a position of dominance and the supervision of concentrations (mergers and acquisitions) extensive examples, drawn from European and UK practice, have been provided. These examples are then used in the explanation of the general principles, taking into account the changes as a result of the recent introduction of Regulation 1/2003. With this approach, the book aims to reach a broad range of readers: students, teachers in further and higher education, officials and practising lawyers who are not usually faced with competition law issues in their everyday working lives. Extra information has also been included in the footnotes, indicating references to the more specialised literature.

Book Youth policy manual for Arab countries

Download or read book Youth policy manual for Arab countries written by Finn Yrjar Denstad and published by Council of Europe. This book was released on 2016-10-01 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The EU-CoE youth partnership stems from the close relations that the Council of Europe and the European Commission have developed in the youth field over the years since 1998. The overall goal is to foster synergies between the youth-oriented activities of the two institutions. The specific themes are participation/citizenship, social inclusion, recognition and quality of youth work. What is youth policy, and what major elements should a national youth policy strategy include? How can young people be consulted and otherwise involved in developing youth policy? How do institutions such as the European Union, the Council of Europe and the United Nations address youth policy, and how can this work be concretely linked to the efforts of a national government to develop a youth policy agenda? How is youth policy organised in specific countries of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region? These are some of the essential questions addressed in this publication. The Youth policy manual should be considered a source work, a tool and a helpful guide both for policy makers in the youth field and for non-governmental organisations and other stakeholder groups who advocate improved youth policy at the national level. This manual proposes one possible model for how a national youth policy strategy can be developed. It is a revised version of the Youth policy manual (2009) and takes into account relevant specificities of the MENA region.

Book Learning Policy Doing Policy

Download or read book Learning Policy Doing Policy written by Trish Mercer and published by ANU Press. This book was released on 2021-03-18 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When it comes to policymaking, public servants have traditionally learned ‘on the job’, with practical experience and tacit knowledge valued over theory-based learning and academic analysis. Yet increasing numbers of public servants are undertaking policy training through postgraduate qualifications and/or through short courses in policy training. Learning Policy, Doing Policy explores how policy theory is understood by practitioners and how it influences their practice. The book brings together insights from research, teaching and practice on an issue that has so far been understudied. Contributors include Australian and international policy scholars, and current and former practitioners from government agencies. The first part of the book focuses on theorising, teaching and learning about the policymaking process; the second part outlines how current and former practitioners have employed policy process theory in the form of models or frameworks to guide and analyse policymaking in practice; and the final part examines how policy theory insights can assist policy practitioners. In exploring how policy process theory is developed, taught and taken into policymaking practice, Learning Policy, Doing Policy draws on the expertise of academics and practitioners, and also ‘pracademics’ who often serve as a bridge between the academy and government. It draws on a range of both conceptual and applied examples. Its themes are highly relevant for both individuals and institutions, and reflect trends towards a stronger professional ethos in the Australian Public Service. This book is a timely resource for policy scholars, teaching academics, students and policy practitioners.
