Book How to Become a Commercial Traveller Classic Reprint

Download or read book How to Become a Commercial Traveller Classic Reprint written by Ed; B. Grieve and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-05 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from How to Become a Commercial Traveller In issuing this Handbook for the use of Commercial Travellers, I have been chiefly animated by the hope that such a work would prove useful to my fellow-travellers and especially to the beginner. On the origin or antiquity of commercial travelling I have been silent, as I can well imagine that the present aspect of the "Road" has more interest for the reader than the past. Customs, like fashions, change so rapidly that the procuration of business in by-gone days was conducted under circumstances so vastly different from those of the present day, that the mere recording of them herein would be of practically no assistance to the modern traveller. The enormous increase within recent years, of manufacturers, distributers, and travellers have necessarily made great changes on the "Road"; competition has grown by leaps and bounds, bringing in its train lower prices, the necessity for more advertising, shorter and more frequent journeys, and the selling of smaller parcels than formerly. Book Ambassadors of Commerce

Book excerpt: This paper presents a reading of British literary representations of commercial travelers between 1800 and 1939. Three forms of representation are used: nonfiction representations by others, travelers' self-representations, and fictional representations. We find remarkable continuity in representations of commercial travelers across this long time period, particularly in terms of a sustained tension between the image of the disreputable quot;drummerquot; and the more respectable quot;modelquot; salesman. These readings and findings are used to address two debates: one concerned with the timing of any transition to quot;modernquot; selling and salesmanship in Britain; and the second having to do with the processes whereby British society accommodated itself to modernity, commercialization, and the birth of a consumer society.

Book Among Enemies

Download or read book Among Enemies written by Luke Bencie and published by Mountain Lake Press. This book was released on 2013-03-01 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Each business day, some 35,000 executives, scientists, consultants, and lawyers pass through the nation's airports to destinations across the globe. They carry, along with proprietary documents and computer files, the latest in personal electronic gear. However, carefully watching most of those travelers—beginning the moment they arrive at the airport and often sooner—are uncounted numbers of espionage operatives. These individuals work for foreign intelligence services and economic concerns and seek to separate international business travelers from their trade secrets. To succeed, they use many time-tested techniques to lure unsuspecting travelers into vulnerable or compromising positions. They also employ the latest electronic means to steal business information often at a distance from their prey. This is the 21st century, after all, and economic and industrial espionage have become multibillion-dollar enterprises, utilizing a wide array of the most sophisticated means to obtain proprietary information. Luke Bencie is a veteran of this struggle. He knows intimately the threats business travelers face and how to combat those threats. In Among Enemies: Counter-Espionage for the Business Traveler, Bencie provides everything you need to know to protect yourself and your company from attempted espionage.

By the way, though, here comes Quaint now, ambling along with his two grips, a grin upon his face, and an air about him which you would never credit to a man of business, much less to a seller of goods for a Boston house of prominence.
