Forster with Illustrations by Nicholas Tamblyn and Katherine Eglund." These classics are part of The Great Books Series by Golding Books.Edward Morgan Forster was born in London in 1879. His great-aunt Marianne Thornton (daughter of the abolitionist Henry Thornton) died in 1887 and left him a considerable sum of money, which was a good support to him in becoming a writer. While at King's College, Cambridge between 1897 and 1901, he was a member of a philosophical discussion society known as the Apostles, and many of its members went on to constitute the Bloomsbury Group. A novelist, short story writer, essayist, and librettist, much of Forster's work examined class difference and hypocrisy in early 20th-century British society, his most popular novels including "A Room with a View" (1908), "Howards End" (1910), and "A Passage to India" (1924). The latter decades of his life were spent quietly or undertaking public readings and sightseeing, and he died at the age of 91 in Coventry in 1970.
