Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an insightful and modern treatment of combinatorial and algorithmic mathematics, with an elegant transition from mathematical foundations to optimization. It is designed for mathematics, computer science, and engineering students. The book is crowned with modern optimization methodologies. Without the optimization part, the book can be used as a textbook in a one- or two-term undergraduate course in combinatorial and algorithmic mathematics. The optimization part can be used in a one-term high-level undergraduate course, or a low- to medium-level graduate course. The book spans xv+527 pages across 12 chapters, featuring 391 LaTeX pictures, 108 tables, and 218 illustrative examples. There are also 159 nontrivial exercises included at the end of the chapters, with complete solutions included at the end of the book. Complexity progressively grows, building upon previously introduced concepts. The book includes traditional topics as well as cutting-edge topics in modern optimization.
Download or read book Kinematics written by Jens Wittenburg and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-01-12 with total page 697 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book deals with kinematics of mechanisms. It focuses on a solid theoretical foundation and on mathematical methods applicable to the solution of problems of very diverse nature. Applications are demonstrated in a large number of fully worked-out problems. In kinematics a wide variety of mathematical tools is applicable. In this book, wherever possible vector equations are formulated instead of lengthy scalar coordinate equations. The principle of transference is applied to problems of very diverse nature. 15 chapters of the book are devoted to spatial kinematics and three chapters to planar kinematics. In Chapt. 19 nonlinear dynamics equations of motion are formulated for general spatial mechanisms. Nearly one half of the book is dealing with position theory and the other half with motion. The book is intended for use as reference book for researchers and as textbook in advanced courses on kinematics of mechanisms.
Download or read book Developments in Mathematical and Experimental Physics written by Alfredo Macias and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2002-11-30 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The FIRST MEXICAN MEETING ON MATHEMATICAL AND EXPERI MENTAL PHYSICS was held at EL COLEGIO N ACIONAL in Mexico Cit y, Mexico, from September 10 to 14, 2001. This event consisted of the LEOPOLDO GARciA-COLiN SCHERER Medal Lecture, delivered by Prof. Nicholas G. van Kampen, a series of plenary talks by Leopoldo Garcia-Colin, Giinter Nimtz, Luis F. Rodriguez, Ruoon Barrera, and Donald Saari, and of three parallel symposia, namely, Cosmology and Gravitation, Statistical Physics and Beyond, and Hydrodynamics and Dynamical Systems. The response from the Physics community was enthusiastic, with over 200 participants and around 80 speakers, from allover the world: USA, Canada, Mexico, Germany, France, Holland, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Spain, and Hungary. The main aim of the conference is to provide a scenario to Mexican researchers on the topics of Mathematical and Experimental Physics in order to keep them in contact with work going on in other parts of the world and at the same time to motivate and support the young and mid career researchers from our country. To achieve this goal, we decided to the most distinguished experts in the subjects of the invite as lecturers conference and to give the opportunity to young scientist to communi cate the results of their work. The plan is to celebrate this international endeavor every three years.

Download or read book Pangeometry written by Nikolaĭ Ivanovich Lobachevskiĭ and published by European Mathematical Society. This book was released on 2010 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lobachevsky wrote Pangeometry in 1855, the year before his death. This memoir is a resume of his work on non-Euclidean geometry and its applications and can be considered his clearest account on the subject. It is also the conclusion of his life's work and the last attempt he made to acquire recognition. The treatise contains basic ideas of hyperbolic geometry, including the trigonometric formulae, the techniques of computation of arc length, of area and of volume, with concrete examples. It also deals with the applications of hyperbolic geometry to the computation of new definite integrals. The techniques are different from those found in most modern books on hyperbolic geometry since they do not use models. Besides its historical importance, Lobachevsky's Pangeometry is a beautiful work, written in a simple and condensed style. The material that it contains is still very alive, and reading this book will be most useful for researchers and for students in geometry and in the history of science. It can be used as a textbook, as a sourcebook, and as a repository of inspiration. The present edition provides the first complete English translation of Pangeometry available in print. It contains facsimiles of both the Russian and the French original versions. The translation is accompanied by notes, followed by a biography of Lobachevky and an extensive commentary.
Download or read book Modern Logic 1850 1950 East and West written by Francine F. Abeles and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2016-05-26 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents diverse topics in mathematical logic such as proof theory, meta-mathematics, and applications of logic to mathematical structures. The collection spans the first 100 years of modern logic and is dedicated to the memory of Irving Anellis, founder of the journal 'Modern Logic', whose academic work was essential in promoting the algebraic tradition of logic, as represented by Charles Sanders Peirce. Anellis’s association with the Russian logic community introduced their school of logic to a wider audience in the USA, Canada and Western Europe. In addition, the collection takes a historical perspective on proof theory and the development of logic and mathematics in Eastern Logic, the Soviet Union and Russia. The book will be of interest to historians and philosophers in logic and mathematics, and the more specialized papers will also appeal to mathematicians and logicians.
Download or read book Matrix Algorithms written by G. W. Stewart and published by SIAM. This book was released on 1998-08-01 with total page 476 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is the first in a self-contained five-volume series devoted to matrix algorithms. It focuses on the computation of matrix decompositions--that is, the factorization of matrices into products of similar ones. The first two chapters provide the required background from mathematics and computer science needed to work effectively in matrix computations. The remaining chapters are devoted to the LU and QR decompositions--their computation and applications. The singular value decomposition is also treated, although algorithms for its computation will appear in the second volume of the series. The present volume contains 65 algorithms formally presented in pseudocode. Other volumes in the series will treat eigensystems, iterative methods, sparse matrices, and structured problems. The series is aimed at the nonspecialist who needs more than black-box proficiency with matrix computations. To give the series focus, the emphasis is on algorithms, their derivation, and their analysis. The reader is assumed to have a knowledge of elementary analysis and linear algebra and a reasonable amount of programming experience, typically that of the beginning graduate engineer or the undergraduate in an honors program. Strictly speaking, the individual volumes are not textbooks, although they are intended to teach, the guiding principle being that if something is worth explaining, it is worth explaining fully. This has necessarily restricted the scope of the series, but the selection of topics should give the reader a sound basis for further study.
Download or read book Geometry of Cuts and Metrics written by Michel Marie Deza and published by Springer. This book was released on 2009-11-12 with total page 580 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cuts and metrics are well-known objects that arise - independently, but with many deep and fascinating connections - in diverse fields: in graph theory, combinatorial optimization, geometry of numbers, combinatorial matrix theory, statistical physics, VLSI design etc. This book presents a wealth of results, from different mathematical disciplines, in a unified comprehensive manner, and establishes new and old links, which cannot be found elsewhere. It provides a unique and invaluable source for researchers and graduate students. From the Reviews: "This book is definitely a milestone in the literature of integer programming and combinatorial optimization. It draws from the Interdisciplinarity of these fields [...]. With knowledge about the relevant terms, one can enjoy special subsections without being entirely familiar with the rest of the chapter. This makes it not only an interesting research book but even a dictionary. [...] The longer one works with it, the more beautiful it becomes." Optima 56, 1997.
