Book The Coastal Ocean Processes CoOP Program

Download or read book The Coastal Ocean Processes CoOP Program written by and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Coastal Ocean Processes (CoOP) is a program that seeks to plan and implement multi-investigator, interdisciplinary research in the coastal ocean. CoOP encompasses the disciplines of Biological, Chemical, Geological and Physical Oceanography, plus Marine Meteorology. The goal of CoOP is to obtain a new level of quantitative understanding of the processes that dominate the transports, transformations and fates of biologically, chemically and geologically important matter on continental margins.

Book Coastal Ocean Processes CoOP Planning and Management

Download or read book Coastal Ocean Processes CoOP Planning and Management written by and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Coastal Oceanographic Processes (CoOP) program was formulated to promote interdisciplinary research in the coastal ocean. The goal of CoOP is to obtain a new level of quantitative understanding of the transports, transformations and fates of biogeochemically important matter over the continental margins. During the grant period we developed a document on data standards and archiving; prepared an implementation plan for a joint CoOP/GLOBEC California Current study; and, released an Announcement of Opportunity for a Great Lakes Process study.

Book Enabling Ocean Research in the 21st Century

Download or read book Enabling Ocean Research in the 21st Century written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2003-12-14 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the importance of the oceans to society grows, so does the need to understand their variation on many temporal and spatial scales. This need to understand ocean change is compelling scientists to move beyond traditional expeditionary modes of investigation. Observing systems will enable the study of processes in the ocean basins over varying timescales and spatial scales, providing the scientific basis for addressing important societal concerns such as climate change, natural hazards, and the health and viability of living and non-living resources along our coasts and in the open ocean. The book evaluates the scientific and technical readiness to move ahead with the establishment of a research-driven ocean observatory network, and highlights outstanding issues. These issues include the status of planning and development, factors that affect the timing of construction and installation, the cost and requirements for maintenance and operations, needs for sensor development and data management, the impact on availability of ships and deep submergence facilities, and the role of research-based observatories within national and international operational ocean observing systems being developed and implemented.
