Book The Cross Cultural Coaching Kaleidoscope

Download or read book The Cross Cultural Coaching Kaleidoscope written by Jennifer Plaister-Ten and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-04-27 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Coaching has emerged from a Western, largely Anglo-American, perspective that may not be appropriate across cultures, given the multi-cultural nature of societies and workplaces today and the working practice of virtual teams. This has repercussions for the coaching profession. There is little knowledge about the constituent factors of cross-cultural coaching; or the attitudes, skills and knowledge required to practice in a global market. Therefore, there is little sharing of best practice that in turn has an impact upon coaching competency. This book shows a unique approach to describing the impact of culture in the coaching relationship. It demonstrates how culture can affect our perceptions, thoughts and emotions, influence our choices and impact our behaviour. It identifies the need for the coach to become adept at raising awareness of cultural influences and to reframe psychological constructs often thought to have universal meaning; such as responsibility.

Book excerpt: Nappy, raw, rugged truth (is good) Is Ethnic expression and if nothing else, it's like the b-sides to real life situations the side we know about and forget about. For some it's the side we choose to ignore. Nappy is good is our reminder. Also encompassed are my conjectures, my views on different social issues and events. Nappy is good is simply a way to state; more than one way to look at it. Co-titled conversation piece because there are different subjects germane to our living as a culture and amiable views that can be identified by a variety. Forces us to put things into perspective by offering tasteful topics for thought and discussion. This is the doctor for troubled relationships. It's education. It's inspirational and drives the thought process at records speeds. It's education, it's history that we witnessed while in the making. What some of us fail to retain is that history is the story, the reason why things are the way they are today. So if you like poetic expression, this is for you; if you enjoy spending that "me" time reflecting, this is what you need; if you readily accept challenge, this book is for you; if you thrive on good conversation and polished opinions, this definitely is the book for you.

Book The Hedgehog Effect

Download or read book The Hedgehog Effect written by Manfred F. R. Kets de Vries and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2011-10-19 with total page 325 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In The Hedgehog Effect, Manfred Kets de Vries presents the case for leadership group coaching as an experiential training ground for learning to function as a high performance team. His group coaching model, incorporating living case studies, has been developed over more than 20 years of delivering programs to top-level executives and sets the standard in the field of leadership group coaching. Written for coaches, consultants, leadership development directors, and anyone working in or with teams, The Hedgehog Effect begins with an in-depth analysis of what teams and groups are all about. The intricacies of leadership coaching are illustrated with an elaborate example of a team coaching intervention. In Part Two, the author applies a psychodynamic lens to the dynamics of teams and groups, taking a close look at relationship patterns, how groups evolve, and the phenomenon of the group-as-a-whole. Part Three takes a more systemic perspective, addressing the challenges that change processes pose for people in organizations, and how to create best places to work. Kets de Vries supports the whole with the story of an organizational change initiative accomplished through group coaching.

Book Exploring the Career Needs of Intercollegiate Head Coaches

Download or read book Exploring the Career Needs of Intercollegiate Head Coaches written by Shaina M. Ervin and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Kaleidoscope Career Model (KCM) is one of the newest career models used to help explain women's career choices (Mainiero & Sullivan, 2005). The KCM proposes during different periods in people's lives, authenticity, balance, and challenge are career needs that influence career development. Collegiate coaching, a profession known to be demanding and stressful (Weaver, 2010) has been studied extensively. However, there is little understanding of the career needs of college coaches. Through a kaleidoscope lens, this study explored the differences in the career needs of head coaches working at the NCAA D-I level. Job satisfaction, conflict levels, and the obstacles and opportunities coaches experience in their careers were also assessed. An online survey was e-mailed to all head coaches working at D-I colleges and universities across the U.S. At the completion, there was a final sample of 840 (N = 840) and a response rate of 17%. Sullivan, Forret, Carraher, and Mainiero's (2009) 15-item KCM scale was used and a MANOVA was conducted to determine differences in coaches' career needs as it related to gender and career stage. Cammann, Fichman, Jenkins, and Kelch's (1983) three-item job satisfaction scale was used to determine coaches' job satisfaction levels. Netemeyer, Boyles, and McMurrian's (1996) 10-item work and family conflict scale was used. An additional MANOVA was conducted to determine differences in coaches' conflict levels as it related to gender and career stage. Lastly, frequencies were calculated to verify the primary obstacles and opportunities coaches experienced during their careers.
