The four volumes that make up THE CIVIL WAR PAINTINGS OF MORT KUNSTLER contains more than 650 images. Some of these images are of original sketches, others are of works in progress, others are completed paintings, yet others are details in the paintings that are of particular interest. The four-volume set contains the following titles: Volume 1: FORT SUMTER TO ANTIETAM, Volume 2: FREDERICKSBURG TO GETTYSBURG, Volume 3: THE GETTYSBURG CAMPAIGN, and Volume 4: GETTYSBURG TO APPOMATTOX.

This book was released on 2008-08 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For nearly thirty years, Mort Kunstler has focused his considerable artistic talent on interpreting the Civil War through his paintings. In doing so, he has turned to leading historians and scholars for information that he has then translated on canvas to create an indelible image of this defining ordeal in America's history. More than 160 of those images--supplemented by preliminary sketches, early studies, and photographs of works in progress--are the basis for the four volumes in this series. Volume 4 follows the course of the war from the battle of Gettysburg (July 1-3, 1863) through the end of the war at Appomattox (April 9, 1865). The march through Virginia and Tennessee and Georgia, culminating at the battle of Chickamauga, the Atlanta campaign, the battles of Franklin and Nashville, Sherman's March to the Sea, the North's rampage through South Carolina, and battles through North Carolina all ended in a parlor in a house at an obscure railroad crossroads.

Book excerpt: Young readers learn and interact with the story of America’s war for independence through the epic paintings of America’s foremost historical artist, Mort Künstler For the first title in this series, Künstler’s paintings bring history to life with vivid, high-action portrayals of the primary events that won Americans their freedom from Britain: the Boston Tea Party, the Siege of Yorktown, Paul Revere’s ride, and the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The epic artworks faithfully chronicle these moments from history and encourage children to look again and again for special details—from the number of stars on George Washington’s flag to the style of a soldier’s uniform. Together with text by award-winning historian Alan Axelrod, these brilliantly explicit paintings engage a young reader’s attention and introduce them to American history through the visual arts.
