Book excerpt: Profound reflections on the cross that help you to meditate on and marvel at the sacrificial love of Jesus. This book can be used as a devotional, especially during Lent and Easter. These profound reflections on the cross from David Mathis, author of The Christmas We Didn’t Expect, will help you to meditate on and marvel at Jesus’ life, sacrificial death, and spectacular resurrection-enabling you to treasure anew who Jesus is and what he has done. Many of us are so familiar with the Easter story that it becomes easy to miss subtle details and difficult to really enjoy its meaning. This book will help you to pause and marvel at Jesus, whose now-glorified wounds are a sign of his unfailing love and the decisive victory that he has won: “He was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.” (Isaiah 53:5) This book can be used as a devotional. The chapters on Holy Week make it especially helpful during the Lent season and at Easter.

Book The Bride Of Christ The Bridegroom and His Bride

Download or read book The Bride Of Christ The Bridegroom and His Bride written by Christopher Hussey and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2017-08-11 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Right from the very beginning in eternity past, God had planned history with His Son having a bride, a companion that would co-reign with Him and enjoy Him forever. That is the eternal purpose of God in creating a bride for His Son. If you read the Scripture from cover to cover, you would discover that God teaches us in a variety of different ways. Sometimes God uses powerful word pictures, sometimes He uses symbols, sometimes He uses examples of people both good and bad. Sometimes God uses a direct word, an authoritative word, sometimes He uses examples from nature, like a tree planted by the rivers of water that will not cease to bear fruit. This book highlights how God gave us an example of an ancient Jewish wedding ceremony that correlates with Christ, the Bridegroom, and His bride the church. From the father choosing a bride for his son, paying the bridal price, the bridegroom snatching his bride and bringing her to the bridal chamber, and then finally co-reigning with him in their household with him as the head. It is absolutely amazing the correlation between the two. What was a mystery to the Jews has been revealed. The mystery was that both Jew and Gentile called the church would be the bride of Christ. The bride of Christ is describing the kind of relationship we can have with Jesus. God is seeking willing lovers, who would voluntarily seek His heart, voluntarily surrender to Him, and voluntarily love Him with all their heart, soul and mind, and strength.

Book Song of Solomon

    Book Details:
  • Author : Dr. Bonnie L. Westhoff
  • Publisher : WestBow Press
  • Release : 2016-07-27
  • ISBN : 1512740942
  • Pages : 168 pages

Download or read book Song of Solomon written by Dr. Bonnie L. Westhoff and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2016-07-27 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Book of First Kings 4:32 says that Solomon wrote 1005 songs. A song is poetry like the Psalms that were sung to bring forth a message from God. God deemed this song important enough to keep it in His manual, the Bible. The Books of First and Second Samuel are the historical books of David, but His love and emotions for God were written in his Psalms. Likewise, the Book of Revelation is a historical book of the bride of Christ, but the Song of Solomon is the love and emotions of Christ and His bride. This book is being published at the same time as Revelation to be companion books with the same overview. God desired a people who would be adopted into His kingdom. Christ would redeem every person who would acknowledge the plan of God to become children of the Most High God. The Bible was inspired by God (2 Tim 3:16). The Book of Song of Solomon shows the love of the Lord Jesus to His bride, the Church, who is called Shulamite. Shulamite in Hebrew is the feminine noun for Solomon. Solomon in Hebrew is shalom meaning peace unto wholeness. This wholeness comes from a relationship with the Lord which is offered to everyone, male or female, Jewish or Gentile (non-Jewish). Do not think of Solomon in this book as the king, for he too is a believer in the Lord, so therefore He too can be the Shulamite. This is not a picture of Solomons love for a woman, but instead the story of how Solomon came to love the Lord and grow spiritually throughout His life. Both Books (Revelation and Song of Solomon) are actually a symbolic picture of the Ancient Jewish Wedding. The bride is the Church, and therefore, seen as female, yet we know that God is identified as being present in both male and female. Therefore, Solomon is writing as a believer growing in his walk with the Lord. Song of Solomon, like all books in the Old Testament, point to Jesus. It cant be about Solomon and his love for a woman; IT HAS TO BE ABOUT JESUS. Therefore, it shows how a believer grows in their relationship with Jesus. The Jewish wedding takes us from the first time we see Jesus in the spirit and are engaged (salvation) to the time we see Jesus face to face in marriage (our resurrection) to the time we return with Christ to rule and reign as His wife (Millennium) to the time we live in the new heaven and earth (eternity). The intention of this book is to experience in the spirit the life of the believer growing in our knowledge and relationship with Jesus Christ.

Book The Bride of Christ Goes to Hell

Download or read book The Bride of Christ Goes to Hell written by Dyan Elliott and published by University of Pennsylvania Press. This book was released on 2011-11-16 with total page 477 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The early Christian writer Tertullian first applied the epithet "bride of Christ" to the uppity virgins of Carthage as a means of enforcing female obedience. Henceforth, the virgin as Christ's spouse was expected to manifest matronly modesty and due submission, hobbling virginity's ancient capacity to destabilize gender roles. In the early Middle Ages, the focus on virginity and the attendant anxiety over its possible loss reinforced the emphasis on claustration in female religious communities, while also profoundly disparaging the nonvirginal members of a given community. With the rising importance of intentionality in determining a person's spiritual profile in the high Middle Ages, the title of bride could be applied and appropriated to laywomen who were nonvirgins as well. Such instances of democratization coincided with the rise of bridal mysticism and a progressive somatization of female spirituality. These factors helped cultivate an increasingly literal and eroticized discourse: women began to undergo mystical enactments of their union with Christ, including ecstatic consummations and vivid phantom pregnancies. Female mystics also became increasingly intimate with their confessors and other clerical confidants, who were sometimes represented as stand-ins for the celestial bridegroom. The dramatic merging of the spiritual and physical in female expressions of religiosity made church authorities fearful, an anxiety that would coalesce around the figure of the witch and her carnal induction into the Sabbath.

Book Are Miraculous Gifts for Today

Download or read book Are Miraculous Gifts for Today written by Zondervan, and published by Zondervan Academic. This book was released on 2011-10-11 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Are Miraculous Gifts for Today? takes you to the heart of one of the most dividing questions in the Church today: how are the Holy Spirit’s miracles at work among God's people now? Is he still actively giving the gifts of tongues, prophecy, and healing that fill the book of Acts? Is he driving out demons when Christians command them to flee? Or are these events confined to the time of the early church and the apostles? This volume of the Counterpoints series provides an impartial format for comparing the four main positions on present-day miracles (including the history and distinctions between the three positions that affirm miraculous gifts) with voice also given to a large sector of open-but-cautious evangelicals: Cessationist: there are no miraculous gifts of the Holy Spirit today. Pentecostal: gifts are intended for today, with certain nuances focused on baptism and speaking in tongues. Charismatic: gifts are intended for today and should be actively practiced. Third Wave: gifts are intended for today, with greater emphasis on baptism and less on tongues. This thought-provoking book will help Christians on every side of the miraculous gifts debate to better understand their own position and the positions of others. The Counterpoints series presents a comparison and critique of scholarly views on topics important to Christians that are both fair-minded and respectful of the biblical text. Each volume is a one-stop reference that allows readers to evaluate the different positions on a specific issue and form their own, educated opinion.

Book The Bride of Christ Without Spot Or Wrinkle

Download or read book The Bride of Christ Without Spot Or Wrinkle written by Dr Patricia Venegas and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2015-03-30 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jesus is coming for His Church-without spot or wrinkle! God thought of you in a personal, saving relationship from the foundation of the world. Your personal salvation was not only well planned but demonstrates God's abiding faithfulness, as He prepares the consummation of His great plan for His Bride (the church). Spiritually speaking, the church is called the bride of Christ. Up to now the bride of Christ is simply betrothed or engaged, much like Joseph was to Mary before the birth of Jesus (Matthew 1:18-20). The wedding day waits. John saw a vision of the end of time, "Let us rejoice and be exceedingly glad, and let us give the glory unto Him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and His wife has made herself ready" (Revelation 19:7). The bride's splendid clothing was then described as "the righteous acts of the saints" (v. 8). When Jesus comes again, He will come "to present the church to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish" (Ephesians 5:27). In this book, you will discover how to personally and within a church to become part of His pure, spotless and wrinkle-free Bride. Are you preparing for His return? This book will help you prepare for His coming! Don't delay. Read every page and implement every teaching. Dr. Patricia Venegas along with her husband Reverend Benjamin Venegas founded Without Spot or Wrinkle Ministries International in 1998. In November of 2007, they launched their first church plant in La Verne, California. She is Senior Pastor and CEO. The congregation of Without Spot or Wrinkle Ministries International is Judeo-Christian, founded and grounded on scripture and the word of God.

Book Letters To A Young Evangelical

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Named by Christianity Today as one of the twenty-five most influential preachers of the last fifty years, best-selling author Tony Campolo has spent decades calling on readers and audiences around the world to live their faith through committed activism. A tireless crusader for human rights and the eradication of world poverty, Campolo is a "Red Letter" Christian -- he reminds us that when Jesus spoke, he spoke of social justice. But the Religious Right and social conservatives have hijacked His message in the name of Republican politics. They have corrupted the faith by ignoring the true message of Christ and focusing instead on narrow "wedge" issues to win political campaigns. In Letters to a Young Evangelical, Campolo calls on evangelicals of all ages to reject the false pieties of the Religious Right. With his trademark candor and wit, he offers sage advice to seekers who are trying to live their faith in a modern world that is politically polarized and predominantly secular. He is unafraid to touch on the hot-button topics that divide believers in America and around the world: abortion, gay rights, war, capital punishment, feminism, and the environment. An activist, a visionary, and a man of deep faith, Tony Campolo offers guidance not only for young evangelicals, but for seekers of all ages and faiths.

  • ISBN : 0770435475
  • Pages : 226 pages

Download or read book Jesus the Bridegroom written by Brant Pitre and published by Image. This book was released on 2018-02-13 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The bestselling follow-up to Jesus and the Jewish Roots of the Eucharist. Includes a reader's guide and an excerpt from Pitre's The Case for Jesus. In Jesus the Bridegroom, Brant Pitre once again taps into the wells of Jewish Scripture and tradition, and unlocks the secrets of what is arguably the most well-known symbol of the Christian faith: the cross of Christ. In this thrilling exploration, Pitre shows how the suffering and death of Jesus was far more than a tragic Roman execution. Instead, the Passion of Christ was the fulfillment of ancient Jewish prophecies of a wedding, when the God of the universe would wed himself to humankind in an everlasting nuptial covenant. To be sure, most Christians are familiar with the apostle Paul’s teaching that Christ is the ‘Bridegroom’ and the Church is the ‘Bride’. But what does this really mean? And what would ever possess Paul to compare the death of Christ to the love of a husband for his wife? If you would have been at the Crucifixion, with Jesus hanging there dying, is that how you would have described it? How could a first-century Jew like Paul, who knew how brutal Roman crucifixions were, have ever compared the execution of Jesus to a wedding? And why does he refer to this as the “great mystery” (Ephesians 5:32)? As Pitre shows, the key to unlocking this mystery can be found by going back to Jewish Scripture and tradition and seeing the entire history of salvation, from Mount Sinai to Mount Calvary, as a divine love story between Creator and creature, between God and Israel, between Christ and his bride—a story that comes to its climax on the wood of a Roman cross. In the pages of Jesus the Bridegroom, dozens of familiar passages in the Bible—the Exodus, the Song of Songs, the Wedding at Cana, the Woman at the Well, the Last Supper, the Crucifixion, and even the Second Coming at the End of Time—are suddenly transformed before our eyes. Indeed, when seen in the light of Jewish Scripture and tradition, the life of Christ is nothing less than the greatest love story ever told.

Book Is the Church the Bride of Christ

Download or read book Is the Church the Bride of Christ written by Repsaj Jasper and published by Createspace Independent Pub. This book was released on 2013-04-04 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Book number 20 is released to correct false teaching concerning the church and Christ. The majority of Christian sects believe in the false teaching that the church is the bride of Christ. This teaching may appear to harmless as far as the gospel of salvation is concerned. But if the church is the bride of Christ, then there will be a marriage concerning the church(believers) and Christ. does this not contradict the teaching of the Lord Jesus Christ in Matthew 22:30; Mark 12:35 and Luke 20:35 that in the resurrection of the overcoming New Testament saints, they neither marry nor are given in marriage? And to accept the teaching that the church is the bride of Christ also contradict the clear teaching of Revelation 19:7-8; Revelation 21:2-3, 9-10, which reveal that the new city, the holy Jerusalem from the God out of heaven is the bride, the wife of the Lamb. Revelation 22;18-19 clearly warned of the consequences of distorting the word of the God and in particular the Book of Revelation. If anyone adds to these, the God will pour upon him the plagues that have been stated in the Book of Revelation. And if anyone takes away any of the word, the God will take away his part from the Scroll of Lofe and out of the Holy City. Is this warning not fearful enough to deter anyone from believing in lies by distorting the word of the God? Obviously it has not, because those who taught and preached such false teaching are false prophets, false teachers and false christs and they are agents of Satan, even if they do not realise this fact. This Book also reveals the truth that Jesus Christ is not a biological descendant of David as many theologians have taught. Such a teaching is blaspheming against the God because it means the God had by-passed His word and the law by using His almighty power to stop the sin from Mary from entering into the body of Jesus Christ. That would make the God Himself unrighteous! This indeed never happen! It is of no small matter to accuse the God of breaking His own word. The consequence is disastrous to the everlasting. Those who preached and those who believed that Jesus Christ is the second Adam even out of ignorance are calling the God a liar. It was the God who declared His Son, Jesus Christ to be made the last Adam as an important aspect of the gospel of salvation. If Jesus Christ was the second Adam, than no mankind could/can be saved to receive everlasting life. Lastly, the teaching of Paul that "the first man originated from earth, earthly and the second man, the Lord originated from heaven" the significance is not well understood by many. On the basis of Paul's teaching that the second man, the Lord originated from heaven, false prophets and false teachers taught that Jesus Christ is the second Adam. The second Adam is Cain, who became a murderer. The Lord Jesus Christ as the second man from heaven became the last Adam. The second man is not Cain. Jesus Christ is the secon man originated from heaven and He is not the second Adam. Jesus Christ was made the last Adam. Believers must not tolerate any false teaching no matter how insignificant they think such false teaching may be. The truth is that the acceptance of even a little sin or a little false teaching will ultimately contaminate or leaven the whole believer as taught by the Lord Jesus Christ (Luke 16:10) and by Paul(1 Corinthians 5:6; Galatians 5:9). Readers are urged to test the content in this book against the unadulterated word of the God, the original texts of the Masoretic Hebrew texts and the original Greek Received texts to prove and or to disprove its veracity.
