Book The Church and Economics

Download or read book The Church and Economics written by Christopher Hollis and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this book is to describe the teaching of the Catholic Church on economics--the effect which the Catholic Church has had and ought to have had on the development of the world's economy. However, there is in fact nothing in the Gospels to suggest that the Lord was at all interested in setting out an economic system. The Church does not have a specific economic position, but it does point out the immoral and anti-religious aspects that pervade systems such as fascism and communism, and which are sometimes present in other doctrines.

Book Economics Today

Download or read book Economics Today written by Donald A. Hay and published by Regent College Publishing. This book was released on 2004 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Economics has assumed a dominant role in shaping our modern world. In this book, Donald Hay develops a critique of economics today in the light of a Christian understanding of truth. The author's purpose is to equip the reader with arguments and principles with which to confront new economic problems, as well as to analyse our present situation. Case studies take the arguments and apply them to particular areas of economic analysis. Amongst influential cases illuminated by Donald Hay's study are the free market of capitalism and the planned economy of socialism. He analyses macro-economic policy in the advanced industrial economies, the vexed question of relations between rich and poor nations, and the consequences of economic growth. This book gives an exposition of economics as it is practised in the West. It also provides an insight into the underlying beliefs of economists when they pronounce on public policy issues which affect all of our lives. Donald Hay is a Fellow and Tutor in Economics at Jesus College, Oxford, and a Reader in the Church of England.

Download or read book Christians and the State written by John C. Bennett and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2019-01-16 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the Introduction: Political problems have come to be the most fateful social problems. Three decades ago it seemed that economic problems were primary and Christian writers about society were generally preoccupied with them. Even then economic problems led to questions concerning the role of the state in economic life, which remains one of the most urgent of the political problems. Today, while there is not doubt about the significance of the interaction between economics and politics on many levels, it seems that the greater threats to man come from the conflict of political ideologies, from political instability within various countries and regions, and from the danger of nuclear war. There are issues of economic justice and well-being involved in all of these threats, but we can no longer assume that all political ideas and forces and decisions are merely reflections of what happens in economic life.
