Book Zion s Christian Soldiers

Download or read book Zion s Christian Soldiers written by Stephen Sizer and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2021-07-24 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many Bible believing Christians are convinced that God blesses those nations that stand with Israel and curses those that don’t. This belief has had a significant influence on attitudes towards the ongoing Palestinian-Israeli conflict in the Middle East. Claims made in books like the Scofield Reference Bible and Hal Lindsey’s The Late Great Planet Earth have fed into contemporary Christian Zionism, with radical implications for how we view our faith and the world in which we live. Stephen Sizer contends that this view is based on misinterpretation of the Bible. He provides an introduction to Christian Zionism and a clear response and positive alternative based on a careful study of relevant biblical texts. His intention is to encourage dialogue on the relationship between Israel and the Christian church and offer a more constructive view of the future and our role in it. This accessible volume includes numerous tables and diagrams, questions for Bible study and further reflection, and a glossary of terms. It concludes with a previously unpublished sermon by John Stott on ‘The Place of Israel.’

Book excerpt: The Christian Soldier is based on Matthew 11:12 The Kingdom of Heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force. The earth is inherited by the meek Matt. v: 5. Heaven is inherited by the violent. Our life is military. Christ is our Captain, the gospel is the banner, the graces are our spiritual artillery, and heaven is only taken in a forcible way. This violence concerns men as Christians. Though heaven be given us freely, yet we must contend for it, Eccles. ix. 10. 'What thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might.' Our work is great, our time short, our Master urgent. We have need therefore to summon together all the powers of our souls and strive as in a matter of life and death, that we may arrive at the kingdom above: We must not only put forth diligence, but violence

Noted theologian and bestselling author Ron Sider lets the testimony of the early church speak in the first of a three-volume series on biblical peacemaking. This book provides in English translation all extant data directly relevant to the witness of the early church until Constantine on killing. Book excerpt: "The Christian Soldier" is a side by side reference of military experiences and history to that of a Christian Soldier. We often refer ourselves to being a Soldier in God's Army but not everyone has military experience. This book was inspired by an actual personal experience that left me wondering if we were in a warzone and this occurred how many people would be sent to the brig (military prison). The Apostle Paul gives several spiritual scriptures and references on our Christian walk with the walk of one of a soldier. Whether you were in the military or not, this book helps to reflect and understand not only these scriptures better, but also helps us to reflect on our walk with Christ as a Christian Soldier. The greatest tool a successful Marine has is discipline. "Discipline is Instant and Willing Obedience to Orders, Respect for Authority, Self-Reliance and Teamwork" we learned this saying in 1st Phase in Marine Bootcamp. Discipline is a multi-definition word usage. It takes discipline to wake up at 0400 in the morning to run and exercise but it is needed to stay in shape in the Marine Corps. It is just as necessary to wake up early for your devotional time with God every day to stay in Spiritual shape as a Christian. This is just one example we can compare as a soldier to our walk with Christ. The Comparison of the military soldier to a Christian Soldier is an insightful and amazing way to compare our walk with Christ. Whether you are a strong Christian and want to challenge your walk to a greater level or a new born again Christian to examine where you would like to begin your walk and how to live a successful Christian Life, this book fits every spiritual level.

Book excerpt: Inspired by the Soldier's Creed, A Christian Mother's Creed calls mothers to Think like a Soldier and Fight Like a Mother. During initiation into the United States Army, future soldiers recite the soldier's creed daily. The Soldier's Creed contains 12 declarations that transform the mentality and attitude of future soldiers. In reciting and practicing the soldier's creed, Civilians become Soldiers. The Soldier's Creed guides American soldiers throughout their service. It is the key to thriving in the United States Army. Just like the Soldier's Creed, A Christian Mother's Creed contains 12 faith declarations that can transform Worrying-Moms into Warrior-Moms. Temi used her experience in the United States Army to teach mothers how to think like a soldier, form an alliance with God in mothering, become supermoms, and practice kingdom-minded mothering. The declarations in this book are prophetic words for women believing God for a child, single women hoping to become mothers, and those currently mothering. The power of confession and your alliance with God will call forth the child you desire, the mother you want to become, and empower you to attain mastery of the declarations in a Christian Mother's Creed.

Book Lost Chords and Christian Soldiers

Download or read book Lost Chords and Christian Soldiers written by Ian Bradley and published by Hymns Ancient and Modern Ltd. This book was released on 2013-07-31 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Arthur Sullivan is best known as W. S. Gilbert's collaborator in the Savoy Operas, However, Sullivan was far from being simply a composer of light operettas. At the height of his fame and popularity in late Victorian Britain, Sullivan was regarded as the nation's leading composer of sacred oratorios on a par with Mendelssohn and Brahms. Yet despite his contemporary popularity and enduring legacy, little attention has been given to Sullivan's sacred work. The last twenty years have seen a considerable revival of interest in and critical appreciation for this aspect of Sullivan's work. Lost Chords and Christian Soldiers provides the first detailed, comprehensive, critical study and review of Sullivan's church and sacred music. As well as exploring issues of repertoire and ecclesiology involved in these and other formative influences and experiences, consideration will be given to how far Sullivan's own personal beliefs and faith influenced his settings of sacred texts and the extent to which his own spiritual and theological leaning are expressed in his choice of material and style of setting. Sullivan's motivation in setting religious texts will be probed and comparison will be made with the motivation, output and approach of his closest contemporaries in this field, most notably Stainer.
