Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Child and the Church One of the most valuable chapters in the book is the one in which the author proves his conclusion by facts from his personal religious experience. It is the picture of an honest soul in the supreme quest of life. The story is thrilling and describes in detail the struggle of years through which he passed, and through which many other thoughtful young people are passing today. May they, like the author, reach the goal and come into the same blessed experience of pardoned sins and fellowship with the living Christ. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Christianity and Childhood: Or the Relation of Children to the Church HE present work is designed to establish, on Biblical and Historical grounds, the reasons for Child-membership in the Christian Church. Every institution of the Church must have some funda mental reasons for its existence, otherwise it is eu titled to oblivion. While the literature on the lated doctrine is exceeding voluminous, there is no serious attempt, with, perhaps, one or two exceptions, to reduce to a system the various facts which consti tute the doctrine underlying the practice of those Churches who include children within their folds. There is, therefore, a real demand for a work of this nature. That this work now presented to the Church will answer the requirement, is not the province of the writer to decide. It has been prompted solely by. The desire to advance within, the interests of the Re deemer's kingdom. That it will be acceptable to all, is not expected. It certainly will not be to those who maintain an unreasonable adherence to the fabricated technicalities of theological terminology, nor to those who antagonize the conservative-progressive method of the best thought of the present. In my ideal of it, I have but skirted the rim of. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Parent Child and Church Classic Reprint

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Parent, Child, and Church The following pages have been written with the conviction that others have experienced perplexities similar to my own in passing from a religious childhood, through a religious youth, to a religious manhood without ever having consciously experienced conversion, and still finding no place for that sort of religious development in such preaching as I was permitted to hear; and instead of deriving comfort from religious services, being, rather, made miserable, lest my religious life was seriously at fault somewhere without being able to discover just where. Since working in the pastorate I have made the acquaintance of several young people all of whom were trying to fit the experience of conversion, as popularly preached, into their lives with the same unsatisfactory results that I had experienced in my youthful days. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Correpsondences for Children of the New Church The following pages were first read to the Mount Vernon New Church Sabbath School, and are pub lished in the hope that they may be generally useful. If they are adapted to the states of children, they will be read by them with more or less delight; and I would recommend that the attention be not called to the questions, till the first pleasures of recep tion are passing away, and the book is beginning to be an old one. The questions may then be useful in fixing the instruction which has been received in the memory. Should these Correspondences be found to be adapted to the states of children and the wants of the Church, I hope to be able to add some on other subjects. S. R. My con elusions are' reached after twenty-five years of membership in the Christian Church, all of which have been spent in official capa city, both in the Church proper and in the Sunday-school department of the Church. I have observed how the children of some families wander away from the Church as they reach manhood and womanhood, while those of others grow up in the Church and never leave it. I have also observed that when series of special meetings are held, and many adults are converted and brought. Book The Scriptural Relation of Children to the Church of Christ Classic Reprint

This book was released on 2018-01-24 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Scriptural Relation of Children to the Church of Christ Thou art my God from before the birth. If by breach of law through the first Adam sin passed over on the children of our race, by so much more does grace pass over on them by the second Adam to sai vation and justification of life. And as sin passed over on our children unconditionally and without free choice on their part, so does the merit of the atone ment them unconditionally to salvation through the second Adam, the Lord Jesus Christ. The very existence of childhood, and, by consequence, of the race, is due to the atonement of Jesus Christ. It isonly necessary, without tracing the connection, to assert that, as the Apostle most distinctly amrms, sin became a curse to the whole of mankind by the transgression of the first man of our race. But Paul, also, asserts that the saving benefits of the atonement of Jesus Christ are as broad as the ruin wrought. If original sinfulness of nature affects the infants of our race, much more the saving benefits of salvation pass over to the infants of the race. See Romans 5: 12-21 for the argument of the Apostle on this question. Such also are the resurrection privi leges broadly stated by Paul to belong to humanity, and by consequence to the infants of our race who may have passed away out of this life in the early morning of their existence here. See 1 Cor. 15: 45. No other application of the Apostle 's argument seems to us at all admissible. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book A Children s History of the Church

Download or read book A Children s History of the Church written by John Mason Neale and published by . This book was released on 2017-02-08 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Finally! Church history presented in an easily understandable 'living book' form appropriate for young people! "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." (Matthew 28:19-20) John Mason Neale beautifully captures the struggle of the early Church: from her humble beginnings in Jerusalem, through her rapid spread throughout the ancient world as the apostles scattered far and wide to proclaim the Word of God, to her challenges of preserving the Faith in spite of the many temptations that flooded the Church after its legalization. Included in this volume are stories of some of her greatest saints, -martyrs glorifying God under intense persecution, and defenders of the Faith fighting for Truth against a wide assortment of heretical teachings. Using an immensely engaging style of narration, this work is truly a classic, offering great historical detail in a story form that captures both the mind and heart of a child. This edition includes many added illustrations, biblical, patristic and historical references, as well as an extensive appendix, increasing its educational value for readers of all ages. From a Chalcedon Orthodox Christian point-of-view.

Book The Training of Children in the Christian Family Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Training of Children in the Christian Family Classic Reprint written by Luther Allan Weigle and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-26 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Training of Children in the Christian Family This is a book for parents which deals with princi ples rather than with problems or cases. It aims to help parents to think for themselves; and does not undertake to present ready-made formulas for the training of children or prescriptions for use in various emergencies. It is not mere theory, how ever; most of its materials lie within the author's experience as parent and as teacher. The outline of the book is that of an introductory course for the training of parents, prepared and released by the International Sunday School Lesson Committee under the title of Hints on Child Training, as one of its elective courses for adult classes in the Sunday school. The editors of The Church School requested me to prepare a series of articles, following this outline, which might be used as a basis for study and discussion in parents' classes. In that form, the chapters of this book appeared in that publication, and have been used as a course of study by classes of parents in Sunday schools of various denominations, and as the basis for a year's programs and discussions by mothers' clubs and parent-teacher associations. It is hoped that the book may find a yet wider use by such classes and groups, as well as commend itself to the reading of individual fathers and mothers. My thanks are due to the editors of The Church School. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
