Book The Chigorin Defence Move by Move

Download or read book The Chigorin Defence Move by Move written by Jimmy Liew and published by Everyman Chess. This book was released on 2018-12-01 with total page 562 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Chigorin Defence (1 d4 d5 2 c4 Nc6) is a dynamic and provocative response to White’s 1 d4. Rather than set out a defensive stall with systems based on moves such as ...e6 and ...c6, Black prefers to initiative immediate piece play in the centre. The benefits of this strategy are that Black’s queenside pieces, which are often difficult to develop in the Queen’s Gambit, participate in the struggle at once. The queen’s knight emerges immediately onto an active square and the path is left free for the c8-bishop to develop freely. Naturally there are also drawbacks as Black will not find it easy to establish a foothold in the centre in the early play. The Chigorin is a perfect counterattacking weapon and will appeal to players who like to throw opponents onto their own resources at an early stage. Jimmy Liew identifies and analyses the precise moments when specific theoretical knowledge is required and also discussed plans and strategies in the quieter variations. * Everything you need to know to play the Chigorin with confidence * Emphasis on plans and strategies * Written by an expert in the opening

Book The Chigorin Bible

Download or read book The Chigorin Bible written by Ivan Sokolov and published by Thinkers Publishing. This book was released on 2019-03-04 with total page 349 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Chigorin Variation is one of the oldest variations of the Ruy Lopez, 'in- vented' (according to my database) at the Monte Carlo tournament in 1902 by Carl Schlechter in his game versus Siegbert Tarrasch. Doing our research for this book I was surprised to discover that in the early years of the development of the Chigorin Variation, Black often intentionally kept his king in the centre by opting for 8...Na5 9. Bc2 c5 instead of 8...0-0, trying to be flexible and keeping extra options. The drawback was that White was not obliged to spend time on h2-h3, as he was on 9.h3 in a regular move or- der. Nevertheless this unusual more order was tried with Black by Capablanca, Lasker, Botvinnik, Euwe, Rubinstein and Reshevsky, amongst others. How- ever, sometime in the late 1940s, this flexible plan more or less disappeared from Grandmaster practice, so I did not include it in the games in this book.

The reason for its enduring popularity is that it is rich in the classic strategic themes. Book excerpt: The Ragozin Complex is a flexible and versatile chess opening system that, despite its popularity, rarely has been a subject of serious study in chess literature. A hybrid of the Queen s Gambit and the Nimzo-Indian Defence, the Ragozin featured in a famous book by Soviet theoretician Lipnitsky in the 1950s. Bobby Fischer decided to learn Russian to be able to read that work and immediately afterwards started playing the Ragozin. In recent years the Ragozin has had a tremendous revival and is now being used at top level by players like Vladimir Kramnik, Levon Aronian and Vasily Ivanchuk. In this book, the first monograph on this important system, acclaimed chess author Vladimir Barsky provides a comprehensive coverage of themes and variations, both for Black and for White. For the first time in history, amateur players can acquaint themselves with the important Ragozin System and start playing this flexible opening with confidence."
