Book The Chemistry of Photography

Download or read book The Chemistry of Photography written by David Rogers and published by Royal Society of Chemistry. This book was released on 2007 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Carried in wallets and displayed in homes, photographs are a common, but often an overlooked feature of modern life. And, with the advent of digital technology many believe that the so called 'wet chemistry' behind old fashioned photography is a thing of the past - but is it? The Chemistry of Photography endeavours to unravel the mysteries of picture taking and reflects on the diversity and complexity of the science. It gives readers an insight into the chemistry needed to generate pictures, spanning all mediums including still and motion picture as well as digital imaging. Beginning with the components of conventional photography such as films and papers, the book also looks at light capture and amplification, negative films, processing solutions, colour transparencies, the chemistry of colour and motion picture films. The book concludes with a discussion of digital technology and new innovations in photography. This fascinating book will appeal to scientists and those with a general interest in both the new and the old science behind photography.

Book A Manual of Photographic Chemistry

Download or read book A Manual of Photographic Chemistry written by T. Frederick Hardwich and published by . This book was released on 2022-01-08 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Art of Photography, which has now attained such perfection, and has become so popular amongst all classes, is one of comparatively recent introduction. The word Photography means literally "writing by means of Light;" and it includes all processes by which any kind of picture can be obtained by the chemical agency of Light, without reference to the nature of the sensitive surface upon which it acts. The philosophers of antiquity, although chemical changes due to the influence of Light were continually passing before their eyes, do not appear to have directed their attention to them. Some of the Alchemists indeed noticed the fact that a substance which they termed "Horn Silver," which was probably a Chloride of Silver which had undergone fusion, became blackened by exposure to Light; but their ideas on such subjects being of the most erroneous nature, nothing resulted from the discovery. The first philosophical examination of the decomposing action of Light upon compounds containing Silver was made by the illustrious Scheele, no longer than three-quarters of a century ago, viz. in 1777. It was also remarked by him that some of the coloured rays of Light were peculiarly active in promoting the change.

Book Organic Chemistry of Photography

Download or read book Organic Chemistry of Photography written by Shinsaku Fujita and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 591 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In conventional color photography, spectral sensitizers cooperate with silver halide as acceptors of light during the exposure process, color developers reduce silver halide grains during the developing process, and finally the resulting oxidized developers react with couplers to form imaging dyes. Instant color photography gives us an alternative way of realizing excellent color reproduction, in which dyes changing their diffusibility play an important role. The aim of this book is to provide researchers and graduate students with a perspective on how such organic compounds work in color photography and how seemingly miraculous techniques based on organic chemistry lead to color images of high quality. The readers will acquire the philosophy and learn from hints on how to develop functionalized organic compounds.
