Download or read book Organic Chemistry of Enzyme Catalyzed Reactions Revised Edition written by Richard B. Silverman and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2002-03-07 with total page 800 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Organic Chemistry of Enzyme-Catalyzed Reactions is not a book on enzymes, but rather a book on the general mechanisms involved in chemical reactions involving enzymes. An enzyme is a protein molecule in a plant or animal that causes specific reactions without itself being permanently altered or destroyed. This is a revised edition of a very successful book, which appeals to both academic and industrial markets. Illustrates the organic mechanism associated with each enzyme-catalyzed reaction Makes the connection between organic reaction mechanisms and enzyme mechanisms Compiles the latest information about molecular mechanisms of enzyme reactions Accompanied by clearly drawn structures, schemes, and figures Includes an extensive bibliography on enzyme mechanisms covering the last 30 years Explains how enzymes can accelerate the rates of chemical reactions with high specificity Provides approaches to the design of inhibitors of enzyme-catalyzed reactions Categorizes the cofactors that are appropriate for catalyzing different classes of reactions Shows how chemical enzyme models are used for mechanistic studies Describes catalytic antibody design and mechanism Includes problem sets and solutions for each chapter Written in an informal and didactic style

Book The Chemistry of Enzyme Actions

Download or read book The Chemistry of Enzyme Actions written by Kaufman George Falk and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-26 with total page 143 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Chemistry of Enzyme Actions By arrangement with the Interallied Conference of Pure and Applied Chemistry, which met in London and Brussels in July, 1919, the American Chemical Society was to undertake the production and publication of Scientific and Technologic Monographs on chemical subjects. At the same time it was agreed that the National Research Council, in cooperation with the American Chemical Society and the American Physical Society, should undertake the production and publication of Critical Tables of Chemical and Physical Constants. The American Chemical Society and the National Research Council mutually agreed to care for these two fields of chemical development. The American Chemical Society named as Trustees, to make the necessary arrangements for the publication of the monographs, Charles L. Parsons, Secretary of the American Chemical Society, Washington, D.C; John E. Teeple, Treasurer of the American Chemical Society, New York City; and Professor Gellert Alleman of Swarthmore College. The Trustees have arranged for the publication of the American Chemical Society series of (a) Scientific and (b) Technologic Monographs by the Chemical Catalog Company of New York City. The Council, acting through the Committee on National Policy of the American Chemical Society, appointed the editors, named at the close of this introduction, to have charge of securing authors, and of considering critically the manuscripts prepared. The editors of each series will endeavor to select topics which are of current interest and authors who are recognized as authorities in their respective fields. The list of monographs thus far secured appears in the publishers own announcement elsewhere in this volume. Book Introduction to Enzyme and Coenzyme Chemistry

Download or read book Introduction to Enzyme and Coenzyme Chemistry written by T. D. H. Bugg and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2012-05-29 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Enzymes are giant macromolecules which catalyse biochemical reactions. They are remarkable in many ways. Their three-dimensional structures are highly complex, yet they are formed by spontaneous folding of a linear polypeptide chain. Their catalytic properties are far more impressive than synthetic catalysts which operate under more extreme conditions. Each enzyme catalyses a single chemical reaction on a particular chemical substrate with very high enantioselectivity and enantiospecificity at rates which approach “catalytic perfection”. Living cells are capable of carrying out a huge repertoire of enzyme-catalysed chemical reactions, some of which have little or no precedent in organic chemistry. The popular textbook Introduction to Enzyme and Coenzyme Chemistry has been thoroughly updated to include information on the most recent advances in our understanding of enzyme action, with additional recent examples from the literature used to illustrate key points. A major new feature is the inclusion of two-colour figures, and the addition of over 40 new figures of the active sites of enzymes discussed in the text, in order to illustrate the interplay between enzyme structure and function. This new edition provides a concise but comprehensive account from the perspective of organic chemistry, what enzymes are, how they work, and how they catalyse many of the major classes of enzymatic reactions, and will continue to prove invaluable to both undergraduate and postgraduate students of organic, bio-organic and medicinal chemistry, chemical biology, biochemistry and biotechnology.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Springer Advanced Texts in Chemistry New textbooks at all levels of chemistry appear with great regularity. Some fields like basic biochemistry, organic reaction mechanisms, and chemical ther modynamics are well represented by many excellent texts, and new or revised editions are published sufficiently often to keep up with progress in research. However, some areas of chemistry, especially many of those taught at the graduate level, suffer from a real lack of up-to-date textbooks. The most serious needs occur in fields that are rapidly changing. Textbooks in these subjects usually have to be written by scientists actually involved in the research which is advancing the field. It is not often easy to persuade such individuals to set time aside to help spread the knowledge they have accumulated. Our goal, in this series, is to pinpoint areas of chemistry where recent progress has outpaced what is covered in any available textbooks, and then seek out and persuade experts in these fields to produce relatively concise but instructive introductions to their fields. These should serve the needs of one semester or one quarter graduate courses in chemistry and biochemistry. In some cases the availability of texts in active research areas should help stimulate the creation of new courses. New York, New York CHARLES R.

Book New Trends in Enzyme Catalysis and Biomimetic Chemical Reactions

Download or read book New Trends in Enzyme Catalysis and Biomimetic Chemical Reactions written by Gertz I. Likhtenshtein and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-05-08 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This book is a view of enzyme catalysis by a physico-chemist with long-term experience in the investigation of structure and action mechanism of biological catalysts. This book is not intended to provide an exhaustive survey of each topic but rather a discussion of their theoretical and experimental background, and recent developments. The literature of enzyme catalysis is so vast and many scientists have made important contribution in the area, that it is impossible in the space allowed for this book to give a representative set of references. The author has tried to use reviews, and general principles of articles. He apologizes to those he has not been able to include. . ... The monograph is intended for scientists working on enzyme catalysis and adjacent areas such as chemical modeling of biological processes, homogeneous catalysis, biomedical research and biotechnology. The book can be use as a subsidiary manual for instructors, graduate and undergraduate students of university biochemistry and chemistry departments."--Pages ix-x.
