Download or read book The Chemistry and Physics of Dyeing written by W. P. Dreaper and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-28 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Chemistry and Physics of Dyeing: Being an Account of the Relations Between Fibres and Dyes, the Formation of Lakes, and the General Reactions of Colloids, and Their Solution State In the present volume an attempt is made to collect and classify the work which has been brought forward to explain the action of dyeing, mordanting and lake formation. The general text-books on dyeing devote little space to this particular side of the question. They deal with the operations of the dye-house, rather than with the principles which seem to govern the actual practice of this branch of industry. It is advisable that the modern dyer should have some knowledge of the general reactions, which give rise to the results obtained in the many processes, involved in the dyeing, and bleaching of textile fibres. Without some such knowledge, it is difficult to appreciate their nature; or be in a position to control their working in a systematic manner. To obtain this under present conditions, it is necessary to make a more, or less, tedious search over the scientific and technical journals of the last thirty years. This same difficulty presents itself to the student, who wishes to engage in research on this interesting, but little understood subject. It is, perhaps, equally difficult for the dyer to obtain information of those branches of physical science, which will possibly give an explanation of many of the mordanting and dyeing operations met with in daily practice. Book Physico chemical Aspects of Textile Coloration

Download or read book Physico chemical Aspects of Textile Coloration written by Stephen M. Burkinshaw and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2016-02-08 with total page 642 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The production of textile materials comprises a very large and complex global industry that utilises a diverse range of fibre types and creates a variety of textile products. As the great majority of such products are coloured, predominantly using aqueous dyeing processes, the coloration of textiles is a large-scale global business in which complex procedures are used to apply different types of dye to the various types of textile material. The development of such dyeing processes is the result of substantial research activity, undertaken over many decades, into the physico-chemical aspects of dye adsorption and the establishment of ‘dyeing theory’, which seeks to describe the mechanism by which dyes interact with textile fibres. Physico-Chemical Aspects of Textile Coloration provides a comprehensive treatment of the physical chemistry involved in the dyeing of the major types of natural, man-made and synthetic fibres with the principal types of dye. The book covers: fundamental aspects of the physical and chemical structure of both fibres and dyes, together with the structure and properties of water, in relation to dyeing; dyeing as an area of study as well as the terminology employed in dyeing technology and science; contemporary views of intermolecular forces and the nature of the interactions that can occur between dyes and fibres at a molecular level; fundamental principles involved in dyeing theory, as represented by the thermodynamics and kinetics of dye sorption; detailed accounts of the mechanism of dyeing that applies to cotton (and other cellulosic fibres), polyester, polyamide, wool, polyacrylonitrile and silk fibres; non-aqueous dyeing, as represented by the use of air, organic solvents and supercritical CO2 fluid as alternatives to water as application medium. The up-to-date text is supported by a large number of tables, figures and illustrations as well as footnotes and widespread use of references to published work. The book is essential reading for students, teachers, researchers and professionals involved in textile coloration.

Book The Chemistry and Application of Dyes

Download or read book The Chemistry and Application of Dyes written by David R. Waring and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 423 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is particularly appropriate that a volume concerned with dye chemistry should be included in the series Topics in Applied Chemistry. The development of the dye industry has been inexorably linked not only with the development of the chemical industry but also with organic chemistry itself since the middle of the last century. The position of dye chemistry at the forefront of chemical 1945 and more markedly so during the last advance has declined somewhat since 15 years, with pharmaceutical and medicinal chemistry assuming an increasingly prominent position. Nevertheless, dye production still accounts for a significant portion of the business of most major chemical companies. The field of dye chemistry has stimulated the publication of many books over the years but surprisingly few have concentrated on or even included the practical aspects of dye synthesis and application. Thus, the present volume is designed to fulfill that need and provide the reader with an account of advances in dye chemistry, concentrating on more recent work and giving, in a single volume, synthetic detail and methods of application of the most important classes, information which will be invaluable to both student and research chemist alike.

This book was released on 2006-04-11 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Contributions by scientists working in international laboratories provide the novice researcher with synthetic data and high-technology applications of leuco dyes. Covering leuco dye classes that exhibit reasonable stability, the book discusses photochromic materials that have wide-ranging applications in memory technology, leuco dyes for color photography, and a special class of dyes formulated by reduction instead of the oxidation process.

Book Environmental Aspects of Textile Dyeing

Download or read book Environmental Aspects of Textile Dyeing written by R M Christie and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2007-05-11 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Textile dyes enhance our environment, bringing colour into our lives. The current range of dyes have been developed to withstand environmental effects, such as degradation by exposure to light and water. However, the industry involved with the application of dyes to textiles has a responsibility to ensure that potential for harm to the environment, for example through residues in waste-streams, and to the consumer is minimised. Written by an international team of contributors, this collection reviews current legislation and key technologies which make textile dyeing more efficient and environmentally friendly. The book begins by detailing European and US legislation relating to textile dyeing. Further chapters cover toxicology, environmentally responsible application of dyes and supercritical fluid textile dyeing. The book concludes with chapters on the reduction of pollution and minimisation of waste, the re-use of spent dyebath, chemical treatment of dye effluent and biotechnological treatment of dye effluent. Environmental aspects of textile dyeing is a standard reference source for manufacturers concerned with developing a sustainable industry. Crucial guide to minimising harmful effects on environment and the consumer Reviews current technologies and European and US legislation Essential for all textile manufacturers

Download or read book Colour Chemistry written by R. M. Christie and published by Royal Society of Chemistry. This book was released on 2001 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an up-to-date insight into the chemistry behind the colour of the dyes and pigments that make our world so colourful. The impressive breadth of coverage starts with a dip into the history of colour science. Colour Chemistry then goes on to look at the structure and synthesis of the various dyes and pigments, along with their applications in the traditional areas of textiles, coatings and plastics, and also the ever-expanding range of "high-tech" applications. Also discussed are some of the environmental issues associated with the manufacture and use of colour. The broad and balanced coverage presented in this book makes it ideal for students and graduates. In addition, many specialists in industry or academia will also benefit from the overview of the subject that is provided.
