But the pop of their marriage had long since lost its fizz between the sheets of suburban humdrum. One phone call, and the realization she needed her kids more than they needed her changed everything. Forever. Leaving behind his cushy life in the city for the stunning beauty of wine country, Matt sniffs, sips, swirls and spits all in the hope of one day unleashing the gifted winemaker he dreams to become. When confronted with the choice of his marriage or a coveted job at Sleepy Cloud Winery the decision was as easy as drinking a glass of good Syrah.

This wasn't the end, though, as a deity chose me to save another world. I woke up in the body of Kupiec Aiden, in a world where magic was real. Unfortunately, unlike many isekai novels I've read, I retained none of his memories, and had to learn everything. HIs family took me in, and I recovered from his sickness before learning about magic, or Aether as they called it. I discovered that I had immense innate talent in Aether Gathering, and was offered a scholarship to attend Azyl Academy, the city's premier institution. Where do I fit in this world, and how am I going to be key to saving it?

Book The Vine of a Naked Child

Download or read book The Vine of a Naked Child written by Mary Elizabeth Moorman and published by Spiderwize. This book was released on 2009 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When a person thinks people do not love them, they do anything. Mary Thompson is one of these persons. Earlier than age three, it is normal for Mary's oldest brother, James, to abuse her. As Mary grows older, the more James breaks her spirit, and grooms her for a life of pain and despair. At age seven, she discovers her identity. At age nine, her father, Guy, who she admires more than anyone else, is gone. Feeling abandoned, rejected, and unloved, a cruel and unfair life hurls Mary on a rebellious path to destruction. Her addictive-compulsive behavior leads her to quit the sixth grade, and then she goes down dead-end streets of sex, drugs, and alcohol. Mary opens up to forbidden lusts, and fatal-attraction relationships. Darkness surrounds her and it follows her everywhere she goes. It hovers over her shoulders. Once, it has claws. Several occasions, by the grace of God and prophetic dreams, she escapes death. She is not the only one who pays the price for her sinful living. Her six children pay an awful price too. Mary's web of anguish, depression, and grief catches them also. Mary did not have a normal childhood. How could she give her children a normal life? To receive the true love, she so desperately needs, Mary has to open her eyes from the darkness that hates her. But, why would she? She loves the darkness. At times, it comforts her.

Book Tangled Vines

    Book Details:
  • Author : Frances Dinkelspiel
  • Publisher : St. Martin's Press
  • Release : 2015-10-06
  • ISBN : 1250033217
  • Pages : 319 pages

Download or read book Tangled Vines written by Frances Dinkelspiel and published by St. Martin's Press. This book was released on 2015-10-06 with total page 319 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On October 12, 2005, a massive fire broke out in the Wines Central wine warehouse in Vallejo, California. Within hours, the flames had destroyed 4.5 million bottles of California's finest wine worth more than $250 million, making it the largest destruction of wine in history. The fire had been deliberately set by a passionate oenophile named Mark Anderson, a skilled con man and thief with storage space at the warehouse who needed to cover his tracks. With a propane torch and a bucket of gasoline-soaked rags, Anderson annihilated entire California vineyard libraries as well as bottles of some of the most sought-after wines in the world. Among the priceless bottles destroyed were 175 bottles of Port and Angelica from one of the oldest vineyards in California made by Frances Dinkelspiel's great-great grandfather, Isaias Hellman, in 1875. Sadly, Mark Anderson was not the first to harm the industry. The history of the California wine trade, dating back to the 19th Century, is a story of vineyards with dark and bloody pasts, tales of rich men, strangling monopolies, the brutal enslavement of vineyard workers and murder. Five of the wine trade murders were associated with Isaias Hellman's vineyard in Rancho Cucamonga beginning with the killing of John Rains who owned the land at the time. He was shot several times, dragged from a wagon and left off the main road for the coyotes to feed on. In her new book, Frances Dinkelspiel looks beneath the casually elegant veneer of California's wine regions to find the obsession, greed and violence lying in wait. Few people sipping a fine California Cabernet can even guess at the Tangled Vines where its life began.
