Download or read book The Charge of God s Royal Children written by Timothy Howe and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2024-05-14 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Charge of God’s Royal Children uses the tools of literary criticism (e.g., structure, plot, repetition, rhetorical aims, etc.) to analyze the explicit references to the imago Dei in Gen 1:26–28, 5:1–3, and 9:6 and how these references relate to one another and the developing narrative. The work proposes that the imago Dei (e.g., humanity as God’s Royal Children) functions as a governing evaluative concept throughout Genesis 1–11, providing a standard by which the reader should evaluate the decisions and actions of the characters.

Download or read book Treatise on the Gods written by H.L. Mencken and published by Knopf. This book was released on 2013-03-20 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "I am quite convinced that all religions, at bottom, are pretty much alike. On the surface they may seem to differ greatly, but what appears on the surface is not always religion. Go beneath it, and one finds invariably the same sense of helplessness before the cosmic mysteries, and the same pathetic attempt to resolve it by appealing to higher powers."--from Treatise on the Gods H. L. Mencken is perhaps best known for his scathing political satire. But politicians, as far as Mencken was concerned, had no monopoly on self-righteous chest-thumping, deceit, and thievery. He also found religion to be an adversary worthy of his attention and, in Treatise on the Gods, he offers some of his best shots, a choreographed cannonade. Mencken examines religion everywhere, from India to Peru, from the myths of Egypt to the traditional beliefs of America's Bible Belt. He compares Incas and Greeks, examines doctrines, dogmas, sacred texts, heresies, and ceremonies. He ranges far and wide, but returns at last to the subject that most provokes him: Christianity. He reviews the history of the Church and its founders. "It is Tertullian who is credited with the motto, Credo, quia absurdum est: I believe because it is incredible. Needless to say, he began life as a lawyer." Mencken is no less interested in the dissidents: "The Reformers were men of courage, but not many of them were intelligent." Against the old-time religion of fellow countrymen, Mencken posed as a figure of old-time skepticism, and he reaped the whirlwind. Controversial even before it was published in 1930, Treatise on the Gods remains what its author wished it to be: the plain, clear challenge of honest doubt.

Download or read book The Church Homosexuality Human Rights written by Ohenewaa Danso and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2024-04-24 with total page 371 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book was delivered to me in one word: separation. I felt it drop in my spirit like a coin. I asked in my meditation, ‘what about separation, what about it?’ The answer is what you have in your hands now, reading. The title: The Church. Homosexuality. Human rights., hardly made any complete sense to me until I was able to liaise it with the mother word, ‘separation’. The title is punctuated for a purpose: each of the three nouns is supposed to be a full, separate, and sovereign entity. I mean each is, because each exists. However, the reality of society and relationships challenges this persuasion and thus leaves the reader, even me, to figure out whether it’s worth any effort to marry these sovereign bodies or not. The writer’s style is passably argumentative; it is purposed to allow the reader release him/herself into the billowing wave of opinions and facts on the subject, so as to arrive at the shore of conviction that is very personal and independent in nature. One could agree or disagree with me when I say that the of the three bodies constituting the title, human rights cannot be recognized as a sovereign entity because it is owned by others- all humans for that matter. The same claim cannot be made for the remaining two: Church is a person(wife) and sovereign; homosexual is a person and sovereign. Human rights therefore exist only as the middleman mandated to oversee the peaceful coexistence of the two. But how is this ‘peaceful coexistence’ to be attained, rather organically? For a start, the middleman has asked the church and the homosexual to move a step away from entrenched positions, identities, and ideologies to the common floor of ‘united sovereigns’. ‘Tolerance is the only way out’, says the middleman. But will the two commit to this tolerance method, or like some contracting states of the UN, will they resort to the game of unfaithfulness (it’s human right when it suits us, and when it’s convenient.) to get by? Whatever your view, whatever your prevailing conviction, whatever your deeply held belief, and whatever your well-thought through stance regarding the marriage of the two sovereigns, that, is what this book in essence is about: taking a stand!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If you are looking for a quality childrens Bible study with a proven track record, then Stacey Smiths Children of Faith is just what you need. For many years, we incorporated Children of Faith into our churchs curriculum with tremendous success. The simple structure and solid, biblically-based lessons were easy to use and gave the children a Christian foundation for life. Stacey is a wonderful teacher, mother, and homeschooler, and a superb writer you can count on. Dr. Randy Colver, author, pastor and teacher at Coweta Community Church I home-schooled my four children for twelve years while using Staceys Children of Faith as my Bible curriculum. The Scriptures became very practical and well understood as we studied, prayed, and used the crafts. My children used the prayer guide for years. I believe there are many more children and adults who would genuinely grow in their love and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.Sharlott Williams

Download or read book The Lord s Prayer in the Early Church written by R. Hammerling and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-10-14 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Lord s Prayer is arguably the most important prayer in Christianity. Still, exactly how the prayer developed in the life of the early church has remained hidden in ancient manuscripts. Hammerling s thorough and ground-breaking examination of these works reveals that early authors enthusiastically expounded upon its power and mystery, claiming that the prayer uttered by Christ belonged at the core of Christian ritual and beliefs. Many early church writers labeled it a "perfect summary of the gospel" and joyously referred to it as a pearl of great price and worth.
