When, about a year and a half ago, I ventured to suggest to him the idea of bringing together in book form some of his essays, I was well aware of the fact that his previously published works were mainly in the field of English and early Norse history, but I also knew of his deep interest in the story of the Norwegians in America, and I expressed the hope that he would focus his attention Upon that subject.
