Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In cooperation with the Department of Rural Development Studies of the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences and the Nordic Africa Institute, the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs in May 1998 held a seminar on poverty eradication in rural Africa, in recognition of the twentieth anniversity of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the launching of Sweden's new policy on partnerships with Africa, and the long-standing cooperation between the Nordic and African countries in the pursuit of poverty eradication. Book Rural Poverty Report 2001 the Challenge of Ending Rural Poverty

Download or read book Rural Poverty Report 2001 the Challenge of Ending Rural Poverty written by International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The International Fund for Agricultural Development argues that, to be successful, poverty-reduction policies must focus on rural areas. To overcome disadvantages stemming from remoteness, lack of education and health care, insecure and unproductive jobs, high fertility and (often) discrimination as women or ethnic minorities, the rural poor need: legally secure entitlements to assets (especially land and water); technology (above all for increasing the output and yield of food staples); access to markets; opportunities to participate in decentralized resource management; and access to microfinance. Such policies not only promote economic growth but also help alleviate urban poverty. A sustainable reduction in poverty calls for the creation of a pro-poor policy environment, and allocation of a greater volume of resources targeted to the poor with greater effectiveness. This needs to be complemented by better partnership among government, civil society and the private sector so that the poor are empowered to take responsibility for their own development.

This report provides a multi-dimensional analysis of poverty in the country, using both quantitative and qualitative data, as well as examining the impact of government policies and spending on the poor. Download or read book Evaluation for Inclusive and Sustainable Rural Transformation written by Oscar A. García and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-07-16 with total page 269 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written by a team of expert practitioners at the Independent Office of Evaluation of IFAD, this book gives an overview of evaluation practice at IFAD. It looks at how evaluation practice has evolved to reflect, respond to and inform changing expectations of development assistance. It reveals how evaluation products and methodologies have benefited from key reviews, revisions and lessons learned, and also how they have progressively strengthened IFAD’s capacity to assess its operations and better understand its results. The book concludes with reflections on some of the challenges that lie ahead, including how the independent evaluation function can continue to evolve to meet future challenges and enhance the impact of development initiatives on people’s lives. This valuable insight into practice will be of interest to researchers, practitioners and policymakers in development economics, development studies and rural studies.

Book The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World 2018

Download or read book The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World 2018 written by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2018-09-14 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New evidence this year corroborates the rise in world hunger observed in this report last year, sending a warning that more action is needed if we aspire to end world hunger and malnutrition in all its forms by 2030. Updated estimates show the number of people who suffer from hunger has been growing over the past three years, returning to prevailing levels from almost a decade ago. Although progress continues to be made in reducing child stunting, over 22 percent of children under five years of age are still affected. Other forms of malnutrition are also growing: adult obesity continues to increase in countries irrespective of their income levels, and many countries are coping with multiple forms of malnutrition at the same time – overweight and obesity, as well as anaemia in women, and child stunting and wasting.
