Book The Challenge of Linear Time

Download or read book The Challenge of Linear Time written by and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2013-10-31 with total page 311 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The papers collected in this volume congeal around a debate about the ways and extent of the dominance of linear time and progressive history and the concomitant delineation of the nation in Chinese and Japanese historiography. As China and Japan entered the global capitalist system of nation states, the Chinese and Japanese regimes implemented a number of reforms, which resulted in transformations that affected everyday experience. In the face of imperialism and the perceived threat of being split up, the Meiji and late Qing governments radically reoriented policies in order to become wealthy and powerful in the global arena. People not only began to experience time and space in new ways, but elites also were increasingly exposed to Western theories of history and concepts of nationhood, which became dominant. These changes contributed to the production of new types of historical consciousness and collective identity. The essays in this volume each provide a perspective on the complex ways in which imagining national and regional identity in East Asia were and continue to be enmeshed with visions of time and history. This book should be of interest to all those who are interested in nationalism, modernity in China and Japan, global capitalism and the politics of time.

Book Linear Time Invariant Systems

Download or read book Linear Time Invariant Systems written by Martin Schetzen and published by Wiley-IEEE Press. This book was released on 2002-11-21 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A new and practical approach to understanding system theory The modern development of engineering and science requires a deep understanding of the basic concepts of system theory. Approaching the subject from a system, rather than an application-oriented perspective, world-renowned system expert Martin Schetzen provides practicing engineers and scientists, as well as students, with a solid, clearly explained foundation in the fundamentals of linear time-invariant (continuous) system theory. Developing linear systems from a functional viewpoint, the book is noteworthy for its presentation of: The time-domain theory of continuous time linear time-invariant (LTI) systems System transfer function, gain, and phase-shift An original development of the Fourier transform, the unilateral and bilateral Laplace transforms, and their inverses from a system theory viewpoint Basic filter analysis and design techniques from the s-plane viewpoint Feedback systems and their stability, interconnected systems, and block diagram reduction The state-variable approach to system analysis and its advantages for certain problems Taking an original, highly useful approach to system theory, Linear Time-Invariant Systems lays a solid foundation for further study of system modeling, control theory, filter theory, discrete system theory, state-variable theory, and other subjects requiring a system viewpoint. An Instructor's Manual presenting detailed solutions to all the problems in the book is available upon request from the Wiley Makerting Department.

Book Fixed Parameter Linear Time Algorithms for NP hard Graph and Hypergraph Problems Arising in Industrial Applications

Download or read book Fixed Parameter Linear Time Algorithms for NP hard Graph and Hypergraph Problems Arising in Industrial Applications written by Bevern, René van and published by Universitätsverlag der TU Berlin. This book was released on 2014-10-01 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis aims for the development of efficient algorithms to exactly solve four selected NP-hard graph and hypergraph problems arising in the fields of scheduling, steel manufactoring, software engineering, radio frequency allocation, computer-aided circuit design, and social network analysis. NP-hard problems presumably cannot be solved exactly in a running time growing only polynomially with the input size. In order to still solve the considered problems efficiently, this thesis develops linear-time data reduction and fixed-parameter linear-time algorithms—algorithms that can be proven to run in linear time if certain parameters of the problem instances are constant. Besides proving linear worst-case running times, the efficiency of most of the developed algorithms is evaluated experimentally. Moreover, the limits of fixed-parameter linear-time algorithms and provably efficient and effective data reduction are shown.

Book Handbook of Data Structures and Applications

Download or read book Handbook of Data Structures and Applications written by Dinesh P. Mehta and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2018-02-21 with total page 1928 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Handbook of Data Structures and Applications was first published over a decade ago. This second edition aims to update the first by focusing on areas of research in data structures that have seen significant progress. While the discipline of data structures has not matured as rapidly as other areas of computer science, the book aims to update those areas that have seen advances. Retaining the seven-part structure of the first edition, the handbook begins with a review of introductory material, followed by a discussion of well-known classes of data structures, Priority Queues, Dictionary Structures, and Multidimensional structures. The editors next analyze miscellaneous data structures, which are well-known structures that elude easy classification. The book then addresses mechanisms and tools that were developed to facilitate the use of data structures in real programs. It concludes with an examination of the applications of data structures. Four new chapters have been added on Bloom Filters, Binary Decision Diagrams, Data Structures for Cheminformatics, and Data Structures for Big Data Stores, and updates have been made to other chapters that appeared in the first edition. The Handbook is invaluable for suggesting new ideas for research in data structures, and for revealing application contexts in which they can be deployed. Practitioners devising algorithms will gain insight into organizing data, allowing them to solve algorithmic problems more efficiently.
