Book excerpt: After traveling the globe and speaking to thousands of churches worldwide, Paul David Tripp has discovered a serious problem within pastoral culture. He is not only concerned about the spiritual life of the pastor, but also with the very community of people that trains him, calls him, relates to him, and restores him if necessary. Dangerous Calling reveals the truth that the culture surrounding our pastors is spiritually unhealthy—an environment that actively undermines the wellbeing and efficacy of our church leaders and thus the entire church body. John Schuster helps readers address questions like: Am I really hearing the call, or is it something else, like wishful thinking? How do I deal with times of doubt? Why does it seem like it takes so long to discover my call? Is it possible to have more than one calling in a lifetime, or even operating at the same time? How do I best handle saboteurs who seem to want to squelch my desire to live a ''called'' life? What do I do if I am my own saboteur? Answering Your Call provides exercises that appeal to our practical side as well as inspirational examples from history and literature. It is a spiritual how-to book, not on how to pray or meditate, but how to discern what it is that the world needs you to do.

Book by United States Introduction to sonar

Download or read book by United States Introduction to sonar written by United States. Bureau of Naval Personnel and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2018-09-29 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: SONAR (sound navigation and ranging) systems have many similarities to RADAR and electro-optical systems. Again, detection is based on the propagation of waves between the target and detector. There are active sonar systems, where the wave propagates from the transmitter to the target and back to the receiver, analogous to pulse-echo radar. There are also passive sonar systems, where the target is the source of the energy which propagates to the receiver, analogous to passive infrared detection. Therefore, a great deal of what has been discussed about these systems will also apply to sonar. Sonar, however, differs fundamentally from radar and electro-optics because the energy is transferred by acoustics waves propagating in water. So we first begin by discussing the characteristics of acoustic waves.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On-call neurosurgery concerns practice related to urgent and emergency neurosurgical care including outside of 'normal' working hours. Being on-call involves many competing responsibilities and is regarded as one of the most demanding aspects of a neurosurgical career. The on-call work pattern has evolved over the past decade due to changes in demographics, technology and working practices, each of which have brought new and emerging challenges. These challenges aside, the on-call provides a unique and rewarding environment to make a meaningful difference to patients and to learn the science and art of neurosurgery. Success in on-call work requires not only good technical knowledge and application but also a wide variety of non-technical skills. These skills will help deal with some of the difficult situations neurosurgeons in training face when on-call to make the experience more manageable and educational.
