Book A Celtic Book of Dying

Download or read book A Celtic Book of Dying written by Phyllida Anam-Áire and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2021-12-21 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: • Describes the Celtic rituals of honoring death and dying and offers prayers, meditations, and blessings for the time of transition • Offers reflective questions and exercises to explore your beliefs, attitudes, and fears around your own death • Includes the sacred meditation of traveling with the dead as offered by an anam-áire or Celtic soul carer THE CELTS BELIEVED in the transmigration of the soul, in the magical rhythm of life with a particular order of coming and going for each soul. As they celebrated every new stage of their lives with a ritual, they also honoured the passing of a soul--the death of the physical body. In her decades of work with the dying, Phyllida Anam-Áire has revived the ancient Celtic tradition of watching with the dying and traveling with the soul after death. Integrating the wisdom of her Celtic ancestors with modern knowledge of the death process, she shows how a peaceful transition for the leaving person is possible and how this process can be consciously supported by relatives or friends. Reflective exercises and meditations help us become aware of our beliefs and fears around dying and acknowledge our own death as a natural transformation, allowing our essence to move on into love. Once we come to terms with our own mortality, we will find it easier to assist family and friends in their last hours in this life. Rituals, prayers, and blessings in this guide offer compassionate support for the one transitioning and for those left behind. Phyllida also shares the sacred meditation of traveling with the dead as held by a Celtic Anam-Áire, or soul carer. In addition, she addresses many practical questions around the care for the dying and their environment during and after the process, stressing the importance of silence. A practical yet soulful guidebook, A Celtic Book of Dying deepens our spiritual understanding of the internal journey of the dying and the adventurous afterdeath journey still to embark on. Dying is the most natural step we will ever take.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An indigenous belief system that honors a female image of the divine, the Goddess, and holds the Earth to be sacred, Celtic spirituality is rich with sensual, archaic symbology, the basis for Anderson's unique divination system. This new divination system for personal development and spiritual growth is based on the archaic symbology of the Celts, beautifully embodied by black-and-white art created especially for the book. Use "Celtic Oracles" in a similar way to the I Ching: Just throw two coins three times to discover which of the 64 oracles is influencing your life. There is no need to buy extra divination cards. All you need is this book (for books on tarot and runes the reader has to go out and get a separate deck or set of rune stones). For example, #23 is the Ram-horned Snake who embodies shape-changing. The entry shows a sensuous artwork of two ram-horned snakes and quotes a poem from the Welsh bard Taliesin. If you are drawn to this oracle "you are urged to consider bringing shape-changing to some circumstance of your life. A present situation may invite a change in attitude, action, or a rearrangement of relationships, log

Book The Stem Family in Eurasian Perspective

Download or read book The Stem Family in Eurasian Perspective written by Antoinette Fauve-Chamoux and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2009 with total page 580 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is the Asian stem family different from its European counterpart? This question is a central issue in this collection of essays assembled by two historians of the family in Eurasian perspective. The stem family is characterized by the residential rule that only one married child remains with the parents. This rule has a direct effect upon household structure. In short, the stem family is a domestic unit of production and reproduction that persists over generations, handing down the patrimony through non-egalitarian inheritance. In spite of its ambiguous status in current family typology as something lurking in the valley between the nuclear family and the joint family, the stem family was an important family form in pre-industrial Western Europe and has been a focus of the European family history since Frédéric Le Play and more recently Peter Laslett. However, the encounter with Asian family history has revealed that many areas in Asia also had and still have a considerable proportion of households with a stem-family structure. The stem family debate has entered a new stage. In this book, some studies that benefited from recently created large databases present micro-level analyses of dynamic aspects of family systems, while others discuss more broadly the rise and fall of family systems, past and present. A main concern of this book is whether the family type in a society is ethno-culturally determined and resistant to changes or created by socio-economic conditions. Such a comparison that includes Asian countries activates a new phase of the discussion on the stem family and family systems in a global perspective.

Book excerpt: Archaeological evidence here is used to help build up a picture of the lives led by the people of which it is a record. The contents include a description of primitive settlements, leading up to an account of the art, trade and civilization generally of early ages prior to the Celtic invasion and up to the end of Medieval times. Two chapters take narratives from the time and analyse them against physical evidence and consider what they tell us alongside that information. Many often overlooked facts are brought to the fore and special attention is paid to the overwhelming influence of climate in shaping human destiny. Originally published in 1935, this book is as enlightening today.
