Book Arjuna Blade of the Gods

Download or read book Arjuna Blade of the Gods written by Gaurav Garg and published by Gaurav Garg. This book was released on 2024-03-05 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the vibrant tapestry of Indian mythology emerges a tale unlike any other—Arjuna: Blade of the Gods—an epic saga of celestial weapons, ancient prophecies, and the indomitable spirit of a warrior destined to shape the fate of a kingdom. Arjuna, the chosen one, is plucked from the deceptive tranquility of Hastinapur's grand celebrations, where whispers of an encroaching darkness lie hidden beneath the surface. Called upon by the gods themselves, he embarks on a perilous quest to gather fragments of forgotten power, celestial weapons scattered among realms infused with their own dangers and trials. With each step, Arjuna's power grows, but so does his awareness of the terrible toll these weapons demand. Agni, the fire god, tests his mettle in a volcanic inferno. The elusive Vayu challenges him to an aerial duel through ever-shifting skyways. In a haunting temple of illusions, Citrangada, the warrior princess, forces him to discern truth from falsehood. The shadow of an ancient power begins to take shape – Varuna, an Asura rising from the depths, driven by a thirst for revenge and dominion. Yet, this growing threat is not the only enemy Arjuna must face. Temptations linger on his path, promising false peace and an escape from the heavy mantle of responsibility. Internal battles must be fought alongside external ones, testing the limits of his spirit and questioning the very righteousness he seeks to uphold. In a world teetering on the brink of chaos, Arjuna is both a savior and a potential force of ruin. The path he carves is fraught with choices that will echo throughout time and leave an enduring mark on the realm. Friendships will be tested, lives will be lost, and sacrifices will be demanded, all leading toward a decisive battle where the destiny of Hastinapur will hang in the balance. Arjuna: Blade of the Gods is not simply a tale of a warrior claiming power, it's an exploration of the price that power exacts – on the warrior, on his loved ones, and on the world he fights for. It invites the reader to walk beside Arjuna and ponder the age-old questions – how do we define heroism? Is unshakeable duty its own kind of sacrifice? And where does the line between hero and tyrant blur?

Book Design and Rhetoric in a Sanskrit Court Epic

Download or read book Design and Rhetoric in a Sanskrit Court Epic written by Indira Viswanathan Peterson and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 2012-02-01 with total page 319 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Indira Viswanathan Peterson provides an introduction to the Sanskrit court epic (mahākāvya), an important genre in classical Indian poetry, and the first study of a celebrated sixth-century poem, the Kirātārjunīya (Arjuna and the Hunter) of Bhāravi. Sanskrit court epics are shown to be characterized both by formalism and a deep engagement with enduring Indian values. The Kirātārjunīya is the earliest literary treatment of the narrative of the Pandava hero Arjuna's combat with the great god Śiva, a seminal episode in the war epic Mahābhārata. Through a close analysis of the structural strategies of Bhāravi's poem, the author illuminates the aesthetic of the mahākāvya genre. Peterson demonstrates that the classical poet uses figurative language, rhetorical devices, and structural design as the primary instruments for advancing his argument, the reconciliation of heroic action, ascetic self-control, social duty, and devotion to God. Her discussion of the Kirātārjunīya in relation to its historical setting and to renderings of this epic episode in literary texts and temple sculpture of later periods reveals the existence of complex transactions in Indian civilization between the discourses of heroic epic and court poetry, political ideologies and devotional religion, Sanskrit and the regional languages, and classical and folk traditions. Selections from the Kirātārjunīya are presented in poetic translation.

Book Two Krishnas and One Chariot The Story Of Arjuna

Download or read book Two Krishnas and One Chariot The Story Of Arjuna written by J.B.Patro and published by BecomeShakespeare.com. This book was released on 2019-10-20 with total page 750 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Brahmananda Patro (J B Patro) retired as a Deputy Chief Executive from the Nuclear Fuels Complex, Hyderabad (earlier in Bhabha Atomic Research Centre), specialized in the production of Nuclear Fuels for Power Reactors. He is a member of the early pioneering team in the production of natural uranium, right from milling ore to finished fuel for nuclear power reactors operating in India. During his long service he had the chance to interact and participate in a number of scientific seminars in India and abroad. Drawn to the teachings of Lord Krishna right from a very early age, Mr. Patro viewed Bhagavad-Gita as a treatise on the Physics of energy-The Laws of Thermodynamics-the very cosmic laws that govern of our Universe and conduct our lives as the rita of the Vedas. He has compiled, edited and since published Sree MahaBhagavatam in English translated from original Sanskrit by late Swami Ramakrishna Brahmananda. Enchanted by Lord Krishna’s personality and researching into the classical and contemporary literature on Krishna, his book The Life and Times of Krishna- the Deity Who Lived as Man was published by Wisdom Tree in September 2013.While researching on Krishna Mr. Patro was fascinated by the character of Arjuna, the bosom friend of Krishna. Krishna says on a number of occasions in the Epic Mahabharata that Arjuna is his other self, alter ego. And also, the Puranic literature attributes the duo to the legend of ancient rishis Nara Narayan. Arjuna being an avatar of Nara-The primeval Man or eternal spirit pervading the Universe, always associated with Narayana the Supreme Spirit Vishnu/Krishna. Both are considered as Gods or Sages and accordingly called ‘Deva, Rishi, and Tapasao’. This has been the theme of the book on Pandava hero Arjuna entitled as ‘Two Krishnas and One Chariot-The story of Arjuna. It took about two years to research on the subject from Epic Mahabharata and other related literature. Arjuna was a versatile human, intellectual with an enquiring mind, and a peerless warrior, and Lord Krishna rightly selected him to impart his Science of Yoga which has been handed down to us as Bhagavad Gita.

Book Javanese Gamelan and the West

Download or read book Javanese Gamelan and the West written by Sumarsam and published by University Rochester Press. This book was released on 2013 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Javanese Gamelan and the West studies the meaning, forms, and traditions of the Javanese performing arts as they developed and changed through their contact with Western culture. Authored by a gamelan performer, teacher, and scholar, the book traces the adaptations in gamelan art as a result of Western colonialism in nineteenth-century Java, showing how Western musical and dramatic practices were domesticated by Javanese performers creating hybrid Javanese-Western art forms, such as with the introduction of brass bands in gendhing mares court music and West Javanese tanjidor, and Western theatrical idioms in contemporary wayang puppet plays. The book also examines the presentation of Javanese gamelan to the West, detailing performances in World's Fairs and American academia and considering its influence on Western performing arts and musical and performance studies. The end result is a comprehensive treatment of the formation of modern Javanese gamelan and a fascinating look at how an art form dramatizes changes and developments in a culture. Sumarsam is a University Professor of Music at Wesleyan University. He is the author of Gamelan: Cultural Interaction and Musical Development in Central Java (University of Chicago Press, 1995) and numerous articles in English and Indonesian. As a gamelan musician and a keen amateur dhalang (puppeteer) of Javanese wayang puppet play, he performs, conducts workshops, and lectures throughout the US, Australia, Europe, and Asia.

Book The Great Golden Sacrifice of the Mahabharata

Download or read book The Great Golden Sacrifice of the Mahabharata written by Maggi Lidchi Grassi and published by Random House India. This book was released on 2011-11-20 with total page 586 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A stunningly lyrical work, The Great Golden Sacrifice of the Mahabharata reinterprets Vyasa’s epic from Arjuna’s point of view. As Arjuna relives the battle of Kurukshetra, he senses a profound change coming upon himself. He begins to understand the true meaning of surrender and sacrifice. The book comprises three parts, narrated principally by Arjuna. Part I takes us through the childhood and youth of the Pandavas and Kauravas, the game of dice, the Pandavas’ exile, and ends with the armies arrayed for battle at Kurukshetra. Part II recounts the battle itself, and the teachings of the Bhagvad Gita. Part III presents a moving and brilliantly original take on the Mahabharata, as Lidchi-Grassi gives a voice to the forgotten victims of every war—the ordinary citizens who must pick themselves up, and resume the business of life. An old order has been swept away, but can the new age—the Kali Yuga—help lessen human strife and misery? Vastly ambitious in scope and epic in scale, The Great Golden Sacrifice of the Mahabharata is an astonishing read.

Book Traces of the Ramayana and Mahabharata in Javanese and Malay Literature

Download or read book Traces of the Ramayana and Mahabharata in Javanese and Malay Literature written by Ding Choo Ming and published by ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute. This book was released on 2018-03-15 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Local renderings of the two Indian epics Ramayana and Mahabharata in Malay and Javanese literature have existed since around the ninth and tenth centuries. In the following centuries new versions were created alongside the old ones, and these opened up interesting new directions. They questioned the views of previous versions and laid different accents, in a continuous process of modernization and adaptation, successfully satisfying the curiosity of their audiences for more than a thousand years. Much of this history is still unclear. For a long time, scholarly research made little progress, due to its preoccupation with problems of origin. The present volume, going beyond identifying sources, analyses the socio-literary contexts and ideological foundations of seemingly similar contents and concepts in different periods; it examines the literary functions of borrowing and intertextual referencing, and calls upon the visual arts to illustrate the independent character of the epic tradition in Southeast Asia.

Her narratological study considers many familiar genres of visual art - illustrated manuscripts, drawings on palm-leaf paper, wall paintings, shadow plays, temple sculpture, painted cloth patas, and other popular and fine art. Williams points out that we often treat images designed to be seen in sequence as separate pictures.

Book excerpt: Though the Kuru family survived on Vyasadeva’s seeds, he never belonged to the house. Moreover, being an ascetic, he was even exempted from obligations of the complicated dynamics of human relationships. This armed him with a ruthless dispassion and he could go on telling his stories with stoical detachment, free from any bias and uncontaminated by quintessential human dilemmas. But had any of his characters given his own account of the story, would not that have lent a different dimension to the events seducing ordinary mortals like us to identify, if not compare, our private crises with those of our much celebrated heroes? The Unfallen Pandava is an imaginary autobiography of Yudhishthira, attempting to follow the well-known story of the Mahabharata through his eyes. In the process of narrating the story, he examines his extremely complicated marriage and relationship with brothers turned co-husbands, tries to understand the mysterious personality of his mother in a slightly mother-fixated way, conducts manic and depressive evaluation of his own self and reveals his secret darkness and philosophical confusions with an innate urge to submit to a supreme soul. His own story lacks the material of an epic, rather it becomes like confession of a partisan who, prevailing over other more swashbuckling characters, finally discovers his latent greatness and establishes himself as the symbolic protagonist.
