Book Investigating Clinical Psychology

Download or read book Investigating Clinical Psychology written by Jonathan N. Stea and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-10-23 with total page 153 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Investigating Clinical Psychology takes a deep dive into the field of clinical psychology through the lens of pseudoscience and fringe science. An expert panel of authors honors the role of science in the field while also exploring and guarding against the harms that pseudoscience can cause. Clinicians have an ethical duty to provide the best available, evidence-based care. Engaging, accessible, and open-minded in approach, this book outlines the distinction between science and pseudoscience in order to prevent the false, and often quite harmful, effects that pseudoscientific practices can have on patients in need of mental health services. The book covers a variety of topics, including harmful therapies, purple hat therapies, animal-assisted therapies, hypnosis, and energy medicine. Featuring world-renowned voices from health care specialists to skeptics on the outside of the field gazing in, it equips readers with the skills needed to differentiate between pseudoscientific and evidence-based approaches in both study and practice. Aligning with many major undergraduate textbooks for easy course integration, Investigating Clinical Psychology is valuable supplemental reading in undergraduate and graduate courses in clinical psychology. It is also a beneficial reference for clinicians in practice, as well as anyone interested in pseudoscience within the mental health sector.

Treatments for Psychological Problems and Syndromes makes an important contribution by offering a comprehensive guide for adopting a more flexible approach to cognitive behavioural therapy. Edited by three recognized experts in the field of CBT, the text has three key aims: firstly to identify components of models describing specific psychological conditions that are empirically supported, poorly supported or unsupported; secondly to propose theoretical rationales for sequencing of interventions, and criteria for moving from one treatment procedure to the next; and thirdly to identify mechanisms of psychological syndromes that may interfere with established protocols in order to promote more informed treatment and improve outcomes. Written in clear and concise terms, this is an authoritative guide that will be relevant and useful to a wide range of readers from beginning clinicians to experienced practitioners.

Book The discursive role of adjectives in the translation of Metropolitan Anthony Bloom s religious texts

Download or read book The discursive role of adjectives in the translation of Metropolitan Anthony Bloom s religious texts written by Mona-Ancuța IONESCU and published by Editura Universității din București - Bucharest University Press. This book was released on 2023-01-01 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book examines the ways in which adjectives contribute to the realization of the various language functions in several of Metropolitan Anthony Bloom’s (1914–2003) spirituality works and transcribed talks, as well as in their Romanian translated versions. In particular, it aims at offering an application of the communication theory (cf. Jakobson 1960/1987, Kinneavy 1980) to Metropolitan Anthony’s contemporary religious discourse and an investigation of the underlying lexical-semantic and pragmatic relations carried out by the adjectival class in order for discourse aim to be achieved. It also seeks to reveal the role of adjectives in the process of translation from English into Romanian, more specifically in preserving the source text functions in the target language. To this end, the study engages in an analysis of the hierarchical communicative functions in the corpus, as well as of the role played by adjectives both in the realization and transfer of the respective language functions. The present book, which may be of equal interest to researchers in linguistics and to theologians, demonstrates not only the pivotal role of adjectives in fulfilling communicative purposes specific to religious communication, but also their cohesive discourse role in Metropolitan Anthony’s legacy. At the same time, it highlights the outstanding status of the adjectival class in establishing the functional-cognitive correspondence between the source text and the target text in translation.

Book Philosophical Perspectives on Language

Download or read book Philosophical Perspectives on Language written by Robert J. Stainton and published by Broadview Press. This book was released on 1996-03-18 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Philosophical theorizing about language now involves an increasing emphasis on empirical work and a renewed convergence with philosophy of mind, formal semantics and logic. This new text reflects this evolution. Philosophical Perspectives on Language is distinguished in several important respects from other introductions to the topic. Rather than looking at philosophy of language as a collection of (at best) loosely related topics—speech acts, demonstratives, sense and reference, truth and meaning, etc.—this book is organized around a unifying theme: language as a system of symbols that is known and used.
