Book Vladimir Jabotinsky s Russian Years 1900 1925

Download or read book Vladimir Jabotinsky s Russian Years 1900 1925 written by Brian J. Horowitz and published by Indiana University Press. This book was released on 2020-05-05 with total page 263 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This scholarly biography focuses on the early years of the influential Russian Jewish author and pioneer of Revisionist Zionism. In the first decades of the twentieth century, Russia was a place of intense social strife and political struggle. Vladimir Yevgenyevich “Ze’ev” Jabotinsky, who would go on to become the founder of the Revisionist Zionism Alliance in 1925, was already a Zionist leader and Jewish public intellectual. Although previously glossed over, these early years were crucial to Jabotinsky’s development as a thinker, politician, and Zionist. In this enlightening biography, Brian Horowitz focuses on Jabotinsky’s commitments to Zionism and Palestine as he embraced radicalism and fought against the suffering brought upon Jews through pogroms, poverty, and victimization. Horowitz also defends Jabotinsky against accusations that he was too ambitious, a fascist, and a militarist. As Horowitz delves into the years that shaped Jabotinsky’s social, political, and cultural orientation, an intriguing psychological portrait emerges.

Download or read book False Prophets of Peace written by Tikva Honig-Parnass and published by Haymarket Books. This book was released on 2011 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Israeli Left has long held the view that the historic Zionist Labor movement stands firmly in the humanistic, democratic, and even socialist traditions. These progressive credentials are routinely called forth as cause to dismiss any of Israel's leftwing critics and their charges of injustice. Yet, a closer examination of these claims reveals a carefully constructed mythology used to obscure a more sordid reality. False Prophets of Peace unearths the central role played by the Israeli Left in laying the foundation for the colonial settler project and its campaign of dispossession. Far from its professed radicalism, Honig-Parnass deftly exposes Left Zionism's contributions to Israel's exclusivist ideology and its participation in attempts to legitimize the apartheid treatment of Palestinians. Its fervent support of a Jewish-only state not only undermined the "peace process" from the very start but continues to serve as a barrier to reaching a just peace that recognizes the national and human rights of the Palestinian people.

Book Jewish Emigration from the Yemen 1951 98

Download or read book Jewish Emigration from the Yemen 1951 98 written by Reuben Ahroni and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-11-19 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Yemeni Jewish remnants have triggered so much interest on the part of so many western governments and humanitarian organizations, to an extent that is quite rare. The story of the Yemeni Jewish remnants is distinct from that of their brethren who emigrated to Israel during Operation Magic Carpet (1949-51). Before and during Operation Magic Carpet, Yemeni Jews came on their own in overwhelming numbers, many of them on foot, undeterred by the prospects of the trials and tribulations which they knew would await them in the course of their travels. In contrast, the Yemeni Jewish remnants displayed a strong hesitation, if not reluctance, to leave Yemen. Thus, since Operation Magic Carpet and until 1962 - the year of the coup d'état eliminating the autocratic Imamic regime in Yemen and the closing of the Yemeni gates for Jewish emigration - only some four hundred Yemeni Jews heeded the call to emigrate to Israel. It is for this reason that the book is subtitled Carpet Without Magic. A 'red carpet' was indeed spread before the Yemeni Jewish remnants, but the 'magic' was no longer there.
