Book Climate Change and Tourism in the Asia Pacific

Download or read book Climate Change and Tourism in the Asia Pacific written by Bruce Prideaux and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-09-07 with total page 199 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Climate change will exert an enormous impact on all societies in the medium to long term. Tourism, as both a commercial activity and social phenomenon is not immune. To date, industry has been slow to recognise the scale of the threat posed by a changing climate on its operations and consumers have been extremely reluctant to modify their travel behaviours. The Asia Pacific region is well on the way to being the 21st Century powerhouse of tourism, however the manner in which it develops will, in part, be determined by how the global community responds to climate change. This book examines climate change issues related to tourism in the Asia Pacific region. Chapters discuss demand and supply side issues, explore government policy responses and introduce several new adaptation models. The book also calls for a more effective linking of social science research with the scientific discourse to create long term resolution of and adaptation to this issue. This book was published as a special issue of Asia Pacific Journal of Tourism Research.

Book Climate Change and Tourism

Download or read book Climate Change and Tourism written by Susanne Becken and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The contribution of tourism to climate change and the likely effects of climate change on tourist destinations have been well reported and discussed, however there is a lack of evidence-based systematic advice as to how the industry should respond. This book addresses the gap between our increasing understanding of the drivers and consequences of climate change, and practical advice for mitigation and adaptation. This text acknowledges the importance of a sound conceptual understanding of climate change and considers how the industry might best respond. This approach relies upon the roles of supportive policies and institutions and is presented through critically assessed case studies from across the world. These examples support an overall framework which provides a methodology for translating adaptation and mitigation policies into practice.

Book Green Growth and Travelism

Download or read book Green Growth and Travelism written by Terry DeLacy and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-05-09 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The green growth paradigm emerged from evolving global strategies that coherently promote a more socially inclusive, low-carbon, resource-efficient, stable economy, with decreasing poverty. Opportunities and challenges associated with the paradigm shift are expected to transform the travel and tourism (travelism) sector in all respects and on a global scale. This involves the transformation of the entire travelism value chain, as well as the communities in tourism destinations. However, there is a lack of systematic reports on wide-ranging and complex implications of the green growth paradigm for the travelism sector. This book focuses on the twin pillars – green growth and travelism – as key building blocks in exploring an essential multi-decade lifestyle change for planetary and human well-being, through the lenses of concept, policy and practice. It provides a conceptual discussion of the implications of the new development trend for key players in the travelism system, offers case studies from both developed and developing countries that highlight key issues in the transformation towards the green economy, and explores the policy settings and frameworks on both the global and national levels that underpin travelism green growth. This book offers tourism industry players, academics, students, policy makers and practitioners a comprehensive discussion of the latest progress in green growth and travelism.

Book Climate Change and Tourism Policy in OECD Countries

Download or read book Climate Change and Tourism Policy in OECD Countries written by and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Undertaken jointly with United Nations Environment Programme, the report analyses policies and issues related to climate change adaptation and mitigation in the tourism sector. It provides policy recommendations, with the objective to identify priority areas to be included in a framework for action in the area of climate change and tourism. A review of the state of policy-making on this important issue clearly indicates that greater efforts could be made by countries to understand the likely impacts of climate change on tourism; there is a low awareness of the tourism sector's climate change mitigation and adaptation needs; and that current policy, with few exceptions, is inadequate to the scale of the challenge, both on mitigation and adaptation.
